Ashfield-Leichhardt
Welcome to the
Ashfield-Leichhardt SES

The Ashfield-Leichhardt Unit of the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is a group of trained  volunteers who provide immediate assistance to our local community during emergencies. We are one of 232 volunteer units located throughout the local council areas of NSW and form part of approximately 9000 active volunteers available for mobilisation, including reserves.

The major roles of SES are responding to floods and storms, however we also provide support to other emergency services such as the Police, and NSW Rural Fire Service as well as assisting other community-based organisations to run their own events.

Ashfield-Leichhardt SES unit assists in emergencies occurring in the Ashfield and Leichhardt local government areas which covers the Sydney metropolitan suburbs of Annandale, Ashfield, Balmain (including Balmain East), Birchgrove, Haberfield, Leichhardt, Lilyfield, Rozelle , and Summer Hill as well as the eastern part of Croydon and the fringes of Croydon Park, Hurlstone Park and Ashbury. We are also a reserve unit to the Hawkesbury SES unit in times of major flooding.

The Ashfield-Leichhardt SES Unit has regularly responded to requests for assistance outside our local area, such as the Sydney hailstorm and bushfires, Newcastle earthquake, and the Thredbo landslide.
