During medieval times jesters (the forerunners of clowns), entertained the nobleman of Europe. They wore livery of bright green and saffron colored jackets, legwear and shoes.

Clowns are fun and give us a reason to laugh, as children do, without explanation. Their antics and colorful costumes keep our attention focused on them and not the housekeeping tasks that might be going on around us.

The straight clown or "White Face" clown usually has a lovely, less gaudy look.

The Auguste Clown uses bright colors and wears oversized clothing.

The Character Clown is ragged and tattered.
