Brother Glen was born on September 13, 1989 as Glen Russell Smith, to William Russell Smith and Darla Jean Smith. His dad was, and is, a lost sinner. He was mean to Glen as a little boy. Sister Darla tried to teach him scriptures, and the gospel, even though Russell would not allow them to attend church. When Glen was little he nearly drowned in a swimming pool. For a long time he had a fear of all water, including in the shower. Glen was sick with pneumonia when he was a little boy, and had to be put in the hospital under an oxygen tent. He had an IV in his foot, and he hated to be left alone. He had to eat "TOMATOES!" (which he hates) "Those mean nurses!" He made Sister Darla lay under the oxygen tent with him, because he was so afraid of it. The Lord healed him, and he has never been that sick again. When they lived on a ranch near Abilene, Texas, where they had many rattlesnakes, Glen was walking the fence (electric fence) he walked up to the biggest rattler he had ever saw. Feeling silly for being unarmed, he turned "tails" and ran. Not real smart. Realizing the snake could go faster than him (he was not saved at the time), he prayed, "Lord, if you get me outta this I will follow you." He turned around and the snake went into a hole. Praise the Lord! He had many more encounters with rattlers, but after that time he took a weapon to kill them with. One time, while putting insulation in the eaves of their house, Glen fell off the roof. He hit the metal railing on the porch with his back. Then, he hit his head on the ground. After all this had happened, he stood up, rubbed his head, and went inside. The Lord helped him, and kept him safe from injury. Another time, Glen was walking around the barn, when his dad threw an exploding tractor battery towards him. Glen covered his face with his hands, and the battery acid got all over his hands. The acid blistered his hands, and ate into his hands until he put them in the water bucket for the ducks. His hands healed, put he still has some scars. The Lord was looking out for his eyes that day. Once, while riding his bike on a dirt road, he hit a rather large rock and flipped his bike. His arm snapped, and looked very broken. He rode the tractor to the house, and put his arm in a sling. The Lord helped him, and his arm healed within a couple of days. For a long Glen had to wear glasses. One day, he woke up and the Lord had healed his vision. He actually forgot to put his glasses on, and did not realize it for some time. He could see perfectly. On July 22, 2003 Glen had a bicycle accident. Had been ramping with his friends, and decided he would ramp by himself while his friend was eating supper. He went a little too fast, and flipped over his bike in mid-air. He hit face down on the street, sliding. He managed to pull himself up while still sliding, and looked around. He never felt the pain, and did not know he was hurt until blood passed over his eye. He asked a neighbor what he looked like, and the boy told him to shut his left eye. Not knowing how bad he was hurt he went to the Brother of the church's house who he was visiting. When the Sister answered the door she was very shocked at the sight of him, and asked him why he was not crying. She called over to Darla's house, and it just happened that Brother George had went inside. They went to pick Glen up, not knowing how bad he was hurt. When they got there (just a few blocks), they found the children standing around, white as sheets. Glen had cut his forehead, and blood was all over his shirt. His face had road burn on the forehead and chin. He also had bruised both knees and scraped his shoulder and hands. He wanted the pastor to pray for him, because he felt like he was in a dream world. So they took him to the pastor's house, and he called the elders of the church in to pray. Glen's Sunday school teacher brought his first aid kit and bandaged his wounds. Glen says his face went completely numb at this point. When Sister Darla took the bandage off a little bit later she felt like he needed stitches and took him to get them. By the time they got to the hospital the scrapes where scabbed and healing up already, although it had just happened that evening. The doctor and nurses could not understand that it had just happened. They kept asking what who had put on him to numb the pain. Darla told them again and again that they used peroxide and antibiotic cream. Hours and even days later his face was still numb. Four days later the blisters where almost completely healed, and the scabs started coming off. The Lord really helped him. The Sister who had first saw him said just a week after the accident that had she not known, she would have thought it had happened a month before that. |
