Sister Bonnie Ruth Polnack was born on October 6, 1935 to Brother Bud Self and Sister Fay Self. She was raised as a preacher's daughter, and received the Holy Ghost on November 11, 1951, at age sixteen. On September 4, 1954 she married George Ocie Polnack. They bought land next to Brother Bud and Sister Fay and built their one and only home they would ever live in. On September 22, 1956 Bonnie had a little boy, they named him Glen Ocie. When he was little he would get into everything. At 2 and a half years old he climbed up on the counter top and got into the top cabinet. He found a bottle of Dristan (sinus medicine), which George took for headaches. Glen took at least two or three before Bonnie found him. Since the medicine always made George sleepy, Bonnie prayed that the Lord would keep its effects off of little Glen Ocie. He never did get the least bit sleepy or sick. At about the same time, when Glen was 2 and a half, George borrowed Uncle Ed McKusky's trailer. They left Glen in the car while Bonnie went in to the restroom and George put a shovel away. In just a little bit Bonnie looked out and saw the car and trailer going down the side of the driveway (a long hill). She hollered at George, "The car's fixing to turn over!" The car stalled going up an embankment in front of Brother Bud's house. George jumped into the car. Glen said, "Just going to take trailer back to Uncle 'Head's" In the summer of 1958 George and Bonnie (who was pregnant with Darla) where digging a basement for their house (which was still a work in progress). They were using Brother Bud's tractor, with Bonnie driving and George filling the tumble bug frizno (part of the tractor) with dirt to be moved. Glen was playing around George in the basement. Bonnie started backing the tractor, and the brake did not hold. The tractor went into the basement. Just before that happened Glen had run out of the basement to play in the yard. On January 13, 1959 Bonnie had her little girl, Darla Jean. When Darla was around sixteen months old she was playing on the porch, and the dog knocked her off. She hit the back of her head on a tree stump, knocking a hole in her head. Only Bonnie and Glen was at home at the time, with no car. Bonnie picked Darla up, and ran to the neighbor's house. The neighbor took them to the hospital. Darla lost so much blood that her eyes were rolling back into her head. The doctor just shook his head at the sight, but started massaging Darla's heart. He told Bonnie that he might need to cut her open and start her heart again in his hands. He told Bonnie to wait in the hall. Bonnie fell down and started praying in the hall, and in a little while George came in and started praying with her. Then the doctor came in smiling and said Darla needed blood. A friend had the same blood type, and gave his blood for her. The next morning Darla acted like nothing had happened, playing in the middle of the bed. Brother Bud and Sister Fay came to see if they could go to Prim, Arkansas to hold a revival. The doctor told them that Darla was just fine. When Glen and Darla were about 10 and 8 years old, Sister Fay and Bonnie took them to go check on the cattle on their Eskota, Texas ranch. While walking across plowed ground they walked up to a rattlesnake. The snake stood up nearly as tall as Darla and tried to strike her. Sister Fay and Bonnie began to pray. The snake stopped dead in its tracks, and in a moment fell down and crawled away. In 1972 Glen Ocie broke his pelvis bone in a car wreck. He had to stay in bed for 6 weeks, but never missed church. They carried him on a stretcher. During this time they were having fellowship meeting in Lubbock, Texas. Glen rode in the back of a pickup to the meeting, and then laid in church on a cot. This was when the Lord called him to preach. On January 3, 2003 Bonnie and George traveled to Eunice, New Mexico to be with Darla and her children Sabrina and Glen Russell while Darla and Sabrina went to Junior College. They live in their travel trailer, which Bonnie enjoys because it does not take as long to clean as the big house. The family all attend Trinity Holiness Church in Eunice. The pastor enjoys having them in his congregation, and says that Sister Bonnie's testimonies are always a blessing. In early 2003 Bonnie had tests run, and the doctor found a growth. Bonnie had the elders of the church to anoint her with oil and pray for her healing. She believed that the Lord had healed her, and went on from there. The doctor ran another test (cat scan), and said, "Well, I uh...nothing is there Bonnie, there was something, but it is not there." Hallelujah! What a testimony she has now! The church members rejoiced with her, they all love her and are very glad that the Lord saw fit to heal her from possible cancer. |
