Plays
Note: the positions
LW, C and RW apply to whichever player is in that position now, not necessarily
your faceoff lineup positions.
(eg. one of the forwards
could actually be a defensewoman who has rushed up the ice)
[the animations may
take a minute or two to load]
When viewing these
animations, pay attention to:
-
The puck carrier:
-
where she is carrying
the puck to,
-
when she is skating,
-
when she turns,
-
when she stops skating,
-
when she passes,
-
when she follows the pass.
|
-
Players without the puck:
-
where they are skating,
-
where they are heading
to,
-
when they receive the
pass,
-
what they do if they don't
receive the pass,
-
what they do after shooting
the puck (in case they don't score).
|
Play 1
The puck carrier's
first option is to always take the puck towards the net and take the shot.
Anyway you can.
Pure and Simple.
Play 2
|
-
Here, the LW carries the
puck along the left hand boards, the C skates towards the far side of the
net, the RW moves over to the middle and follows the C by about 20 feet.
-
The LW turns sharply just
after reaching the face off spot and cuts towards the front of the net.
-
Note that, after reaching
the net, the C skates away from the net (towards the corner) to maintain
her momentum so she can react to the play, in case there is a rebound.
|
If the puck carrier
feels that she cannot go directly to the net herself, then she will have
to pass to a teammate, as in the following plays.
Play 3
|
-
Here, the LW carries the
puck along the left hand boards, the C skates towards the far side of the
net, the RW moves over to the middle and follows the C by about 20 feet.
-
The LW STOPS near the
faceoff circle,
-
WAITS for the C to get
near the net and passes her the puck.
-
Note that the C skates
away from the net (towards the corner) to maintain her momentum so she
can react to the play.
|
Play 4
|
-
Here, the LW carries the
puck along the left hand boards, the C skates towards the far side of the
net, the RW moves over to the middle and follows the C by about 20 feet.
-
The LW is unable to pass
to the C (the defence is in the way)
-
The LW STOPS inside the
faceoff circle,
-
WAITS for the C to skate
past the net,
-
WAITS for the RW to get
near the net and passes her the puck.
-
Note that the C circles
away from the net (towards the corner) and then back around in front of
the net to pick up the potential rebound. This will maintain her
momentum so she can react to the play.
|
Play 5
|
-
Here, the LW carries the
puck along the left hand boards, crosses the blue line (without slowing
down) and turns toward the middle of the ice.
-
At the blue line, the
C skates behind the LW towards the left side
-
The RW skates towards
the far side of the net.
-
Now the LW SLOWS down
in the middle of the ice,
-
WAITS for the RW to get
near the net and passes her the puck.
-
The C on the left side
of the ice now skates toward the net for the rebound or to receive a pass
(if the RW was covered).
