Offensive Zone Face Off

The centre is responsible
for making sure that ALL players are in position and ready for the face off.

These are the two face off positions our team will use.
L = left wing, R = right wing.
The centre will pull the puck back to the winger lined up behind her, and that winger will SHOOT the puck on net.
The other winger will get to the net for the rebound (if there is one).

General Face Off Options
These are the basic face off positions.
These are the face off positiions if the centre wants to pull the puck back to her left.
Not very useful.
These are the face off positiions if the centre wants to pull the puck back to her right.
THE MOST USEFUL OPTION.

For an effective face off to occur, all 3 forwards must know what the centre is going to try to do when the puck is dropped.
The face off alignment will be decided by the centre, who shall in turn, tell the wingers.
You'll only get a few seconds to sort this out on the ice, so make it quick.

  • The centre has the following options:
    • Pull the puck back (left, straight or right);
    • Push the puck forward (left, straight or right);
    • Push the puck sideways (left or right);
    • Ignore the puck and tie up the opponent (then let your winger retrieve the puck, or use your feet to kick the puck to a teammate)
  • The centre is also responsible for making sure that ALL players are in position and ready for the face off.
      • Once the centre is set for the face off, the referee will drop the puck, even if the other players are not in position or not paying attention.
