The staple food of Korea are boiled rice, rice cakes, noodles, pancakes, muk(jelly) and others. There are several kinds of boiled rice such as ogokbap(boiled rice with 4 grains), yakbap(sweet rice), pibimbap(rice hash) and so on.

朝鮮人的常用食品：飯、米糕、麵、烤薄餅、果凍等，著名的飯類有：雜榖飯(ogokbap，由4種榖物製成)、糯米飯(yakbap)和拌飯(pibimbap) 等。

Noodles are a noted staple food, famous Pyongyang Cold Noodles are made of buckwheat.

麵食是極為常用的食品，著名的平壤冷麵(Pyongyang Cold Noodles) 就是由蕎麥(buckwheat)所製成的。

There are more than 50 varieties of rice cakes, and they differ in their preparations and ingredients.

朝鮮有超過50種米糕，它們的合成材料及製作過程各不相同。

Side dishes are soup, frying, tang(broth), smothered disk, kimchi, salad, steamed dishes, grilled food, shish kebab, broils, hard boiled food, sliced boiled meat, hoe(sliced raw fish or meat) and po(dried slices of meat seasoned with spices) and pickled fish dishes.

配菜有湯羹、煎肉、清湯、醃菜、泡菜(kimchi)、沙拉、蒸菜、燉品、燜肉、烤肉、火鍋、半生熟肉、煲仔菜及醃魚第。

Especially insam takgom(steamed chicken with ginseng) and Ginseng Wine can be tasted only in China and Korea.

除了中國外，朝鮮亦有人參雞湯(insam takgom)及人參酒可供選擇。

3 foreign workers in Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, wrote a “Pyongyang Diet Guide” to introduce Korean restaurants, this book shows that Korea is a Diet Paradise. Peruvian and Italian join to write this “Pyongyang Diet Guide”, listed out over 50 favourable western or oriental restaurants for tourists and local residents, provides Hamburger, hotdog, US Pancake, fired chicken, Japanese Sushi, Chinese shark fins and salmon roe salad etc, even Korean traditional foods, such as kimchi, Pyongyang cold noodle and pibimbap etc. In Pyongyang, eating in an economic class restaurant needs 5 euro(US$6); Middle class needs 5 to 10 euro(US$6 to 12.5) and over 10 euro(US$12.5) for deluxe class. It is NOT so expensive.

Italian said : ”Korean has so many choices on diet, you don’t feel any food shortage in Pyongyang. I saw a lot of Korean bring their kids to have lunch in restaurant at weekend. Local customers are universities students, family and government officers, some of them using company’s vouchers.”

The listed most favourable Piro Peak Restaurant is located in Pyongyang Hotel, it is famous on buffet, it has salad, Japanese bean soup, deserts, fruits and cheese, it is clean and tidy with excellent service, so full of local Korean customers. The second is located in Moranbong Hotel, it uses elegant bamboo balustrade as partitions, provides English menu with dishes photographs, famous dishes are Japanese Tempura, clam chowder soup, and vegetable omelet. The third is the rotation restaurant that located at the roof of Yanggakdo Hotel, it rotate 1 cycle in 3 hours, even just a customer in the restaurant, still switch on the system for you.

3位駐守在朝鮮民主主義人民共和國工作的外國人，最近撰寫的朝鮮民主主義人民共和國飲食指南顯示，朝鮮民主主義人民共和國原來是個美食天堂。由秘魯和意大利籍的外國人合著的這本《平壤飲食指南》，列出外國人和朝鮮民主主義人民共和國平民經常光顧的逾50間西方和亞洲美食餐館，提供的菜式包括漢堡包、熱狗、美式班戟、炸雞、日本壽司、中國魚翅和鮭魚子沙律等，此外還有朝鮮泡菜、平壤冷麵、拌飯等朝鮮美食。

來自秘魯的克里森，是聯合國發展計劃的職工，他在朝鮮民主主義人民共和國工作了5年，熟知當地食肆。他說﹕「有的食物非常美味可口。」

這本美食指南是非賣品，只在同事和朋友間派發。它根據消費指數把餐廳分為3類，分別是5歐羅(6美元)以下的經驗餐館、5至10歐羅(6至12.5美元)的中檔餐館以及10歐羅(12.5美元)以上的高檔餐館。這些價錢並非昂貴。

來自意大利的馬姆奎斯特說﹕「朝鮮民主主義人民共和國的人民有許多美食選擇，您不會覺得平壤市有糧食短缺。我們看見許多朝鮮本地居民在周末帶著兒女到餐館午膳。」

朝鮮民主主義人民共和國的各式食客包括大學生、一家大小和政府幹部，有些當地居民會以所屬機構所派發的代用券結帳。

被列為頂級的餐館包括平壤飯店在2002年底開業，面積約80平方米，設有30多個座位，的「毗盧峰餐廳」，它的豐富自助餐很出名，有沙拉、日本麵豉湯、甜品、水果和芝士，由於地方整潔，服務周到，吸引許多平壤的本地居民光顧。此外是牡丹峰飯店裡的餐館，它以典雅的竹欄柵作間隔，並設有食品相片介紹的英文菜單，著名菜式包括日本炸物天婦羅、蜆湯和雜菜奄列。另一間值得推介的是設於羊角島飯店頂層的旋轉餐廳，它每3小時轉一周，「儘管餐廳只有您一位客人，他們亦會為您開啟旋轉」。

US Hamburger fast food culture is a devil’s symbol in Korean eyes, however, it is widely accepted in Pyongyang. In August, 2003, a 24 hours operated fast food shop opened beside Pyongyang stadium, university boys can buy hamburgers, it provide double or triple beef, food set includes fired chicken, fired potato sticks, orange juice and ice cream. The famous Kim Ii Shying Integrated University operates this fast food shop. In 2001, a new “30^th October Workshop” offers fresh bread to Pyongyang universities.

美國漢堡包快餐文化向來被朝鮮民人民視為腐化的表徵，但其實早已暗暗植根朝鮮，並擴展到首都平壤市內各所大學，只是名稱迥異，由「漢堡包」變成「夾肉包」而已。

在2003年8月，平壤鄭周永體育館前開設了一間24營業的快餐店，大學生能入內購買夾著肉塊的麵包，即漢堡包。該店賣的夾肉包有夾兩層、三層的，套餐包含炸雞塊、炸土豆條、橘子汁、冰淇淋等。原來快餐店是由朝鮮民主義人民共和國最著名的高學府金日成綜合大學開始試辦推廣開來的。2001年起便建成了「10月30日工場」，每天早上向平壤市的大學供應新鮮麵包。

It has 10 tables with BBQ oven, entertains 40 guests, I visited them on 17th March, 2004. I took pibimbap (HK$95), cold noodle (HK$80) and ginseng soup (HK$150). For your information, they offers budget set lunch (HK$30) by 17:00, you can select Chicken, Beef or Porky rice with kimchi, and turnip soup.

It is operated by Korea Duty Free Trade Company, 2 stories, 500m², 5 Pyongyang cooks make Korean disks for you, say: insam takgom, Pyongyang cold noodles, kimchi, BBQ and rice cakes, it offers clam, scampi, echinite, conch and crab, also provide Chinese disks, say: vegetable and meat, choucroute noodle.

It has a small stage, 10 well training Korean waiters perform Korean cabaret.

由朝鮮無關稅貿易總公司經營，兩層樓，面積逾500m²，聘請5名來自平壤的高級廚師，為顧客烹調地道的朝鮮美食。圖文並茂的菜譜中有參雞湯、平壤冷麵、泡菜、燒烤，打米糕，還有產自朝鮮的文蛤、大蝦、海膽、海螺和螃蟹等。亦有魚香肉絲及酸菜粉絲等中國菜餚。

正面設有舞臺，聘請的10名20歲左右的女侍應，從小學就上歌舞訓練課，她們會以朝鮮歌舞娛賓。
