Early Junkers Family History

(   16th Century   to 1823 )

 




The history of the Junkers family could be traced back until the 16th century. The early Junkers family worked as farm workers at Rheydt, a small village between Monchengladbach, Dusseldorf and Aachen. The first company of the Junkers family, a textile manufacturing company, was founded in 1818 by Johann Peter Junkers (1793-1853), the grandfather of Hugo Junkers. This textile company became the backbone of the Junkers family and it was continued by the father of Hugo Junkers and was also later continued by a brother of Hugo Junkers until the 20th century.

Hugo Junkers'
Father




Heinrich Junkers was the father of Hugo Junkers. He was a textile manufacturer at Rheydt nr. Monchengladbach. He was married with Luise Vierhaus since May, 21st 1855. Their family grew up to seven boys until Luise died in 1869. On 6th October 1873 Heinrich Junkers married Luise Pfaff as his second wife. He died in 1887 by a gas accident at his home.

Hugo Junkers'
Mother




Luise Junkers, born Vierhaus, was the first wife of Heinrich Junkers and the mother of Hugo Junkers. Both married on May, 21th 1855 and had seven boys and one girl, which died shortly after her birth. Luise Junkers died on September, 24th 1869.

Luise Junkers, born Pfaff, was the second wife of Heinrich Junkers. Both married on October, 6th 1873 but had no children.

The Junkers Brothers

Hugo Junkers had six brothers and one sister. His sister died shortly after her birth. Hugo Junkers was the third of Heinrich and Luise Junkers' children. Hugo Junkers was about 10 years, when his mother Luise died. The Junkers brothers grew up without a woman in the house for four years, but after four years in 1874 Heinrich Junkers married again.

Junkers, Max

Max Junkers was the first son of Heinrich and Luise Junkers. He is the oldest brother of Hugo Junkers. After the death of Heinrich Junkers he took over the management of the Junkers' textile facilities at Rheydt. Max Junkers supported Hugo Junkers especially during the first years of Junkers & Co. with financial helps and later with supplying production facilities at the home facilities of the Junkers textile company at Rheydt

Junkers, Otto

Otto Junkers took over responsibility for the Marketing at Junkers & Co since 1899, especially for the selling of bath stoves for ICO. Im March 1899 he and Christian Schnabel, another Junkers representative at Munich founded "Junkers & Schnabel" as a selling organisation of Hugo Junkers bath stoves. Otto Junkers was responsible for the northern parts of Germany. Since 1901 Otto Junkers remained as the only owner in that company, while Schnabel left.

Junkers, Ernst

Ernst Junkers was engaged in the Sales of bath stoves for ICO around 1900. As Otto, Ernst Junkers founded a selling organisation together with August Lessing as "Junkers & Lessing" at Berlin. This organisation was responsible for the selling of ICO bath stoves in Eastern Germany.

Hugo Junkers'
Wife




Therese Junkers was the wife of Hugo Junkers. Junkers married her in 1898 and he had 12 children with her. After the death of Hugo Junkers in 1934, Therese Junkers was the legal owner of the remaining Junkers' shares of Junkers Flugzeugwerke. But finally Therese Junkers was forced by the Nazi government to sell this last Junkers stake to the Reich.

Hugo Junkers and Therese Bennhold married in 1898, when Hugo Junkers was already 39 years old. They had 12 children, which were born between 1899 and 1920. His youngest daughter Dorothee was born, when Hugo Junkers was 61 years. She was fourteen, when Hugo Junkers died in 1934.

Herta Junkers was the first child of Hugo and Therese Junkers. In 1919 one of the first Junkers F13 aircraft was named Hertha after her.

Junkers, Annelise

Annelise Junkers was the second child of Hugo and Therese Junkers. One of the first Junkers F13 were named after her in 1919. During the period of the Nazi attacks against Junkers, Anneliese Junkers was also accused for communist contacts.

Junkers, Werner
* 20. June 1902 - 25. June 1923
Werner Junkers was the third child and the first sond of Hugo and Therese Junkers. Werner Junkers was highly engaged in Junkers Flugzeugwerke after WW I. He supported his father in selling activities of the Junkers aircraft. In 1923 he joint the South America sales expedition with two Junkers F13 aircraft. During this expedition one of the two aircraft crashed. Werner Junkers, who was aboard this aircraft was killed by that crash of D-213.

Ruth Junkers was the fourth child of Hugo and Therese Junkers

Ilse Junkers was the fifth child of Hugo and Therese Junkers

Junkers, Klaus
* 25. Nov. 1906 - ????
Klaus Junkers was the sixth child of Hugo and Therese Junkers. Klaus Junkers became IFA managing director in December 1931, after Hugo Junkers released the former IFA managing board. In March 1933 the Nazi government also accused Klaus Junkers for communist contacts due to his friend relations to Adolf Dethmann and finally Klaus Junkers had to leave the board of directors of IFA. After WWII Klaus Junkers tried to regain control over Junkers Flugzeug- und Motorenwerke AG but without success. The company was completely integrated into Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm GmbH in 1965.

Junkers, Erhard

Erhard Junkers was the seventh child of Hugo and Therese Junkers.
He became the Managing Director of Junkers Metallbau GmbH at Munich Allach after WWII.

Guenter Junkers was the ninth child of Hugo and Therese Junkers

Guenter Junkers was the tenth child of Hugo and Therese Junkers.
After WWII, Guenter Junkers was testcell manager at the Junkers Metallbau GmbH at Munich Allach together with his brother Erhard.

Gudrun Junkers was the eleventh child of Hugo and Therese Junkers

Junkers, Dorothee
