Back to Overview
A few A50s survived the years of which one is still in flying condition.
The largest number of Junkers survivors worldwide are Ju52s. But only a smaller part of them are original Junkers built aircraft.
Most of todays Ju52s, which are on display or which are still in flying condition at several historic flight divisions are
Spanish built Casa 352s, which were built after WWII and remained in service until the early 70s. Others are French built
AAC.1 Toucans, which were also built after WWII by Amiot and which were used in France and Portugal until the 60s.
Today even an example of the single engined Ju52/1m is on display. This has been made possible by the
Western Canada Aviation Museum at Winnipeg, Canada, who rebuilt a Ju52/1m from an original Casa 352.

In 1930 two A50's were sold to Australia.
They should be used for a distance record flight, but the first aircraft crashed
a few weeks after delivery. C/n 3517 remained in Australia without performing the record flight.
In 1936 it was registered VH-UCC and was used trough the years by some farmers in Australia.
In 1963 the aircraft was bought by an enthusiast and was totally rebuilt.
In 1976 the aircraft was again registered as VH-MRR in the colours of Cathay Pacific.
It is equipped with an Amstrong Genet Junior engine.
The aircraft is in a complete flying condition and owned by Mal R Rose.

One of the original eight single engined Ju52/1m was sold to Canada as CF-ARM.
This aircraft was used by Canadian Pacific Airlines since 1931.
In 1936 it was converted to a Ju52/1mcao standard and remained in service until 1947.
The aircraft was retired by then and finally was lost on the scrapyards.
In 1985 a replicate of this original Ju52/1m was built at Bristol Aerospace.
This replicate was constructed from a three engined CASA 352.L ex N99234,
which originally was used by the Spanish Air Force as T.2B-146.
The aircraft was also registered as C-GARM for the ferry flight from the USA to Canada.
Today this aircraft is on display at the WESTERN CANADIAN AVIATION MUSEUM at Winnipeg, Canada.
This replicate is the sole single engined Ju52 on display today.

This aircraft belonged to a set of five aircraft, which were rescued from
the grounds of Hartvigvann Fjord in Norway between 1983 and 1986.
During the Narvik campaign in April 1940 a total of 11 Ju52/3m 4ge's flew a mission to Narvik
with supplies for the ground troops at Narvik. They landed on the froozen Hartvigvann Sea.
As the aircraft had not enough fuel for the return flight, they remained at the Hartvigvann Fjord
with the exception of one aircraft, which started with the remaining fuel of the other aircraft.
The remaining Ju52 later sank into the sea, when it became warmer weather.
In 1983 five of the wrecks were returned to the surface of Hartvigvann Fjord.
C/n 6657 remained in Norway and was restaurated until 1999.
It is now displayed at Oslo.

In Lappland, Norway a Ju52 could be found at the original crash site.
This aircraft was original D-AGTC (c/n 6032) operated by Lufthansa in 1938
During WWII it went to Luftwaffe as 7U+LM and was used by K.Gr. zbV 108.
It crashed on 24th February 1943 at Lappland near the Finnmark plateu at Gaednogaisa on Norwegian terrain
The condition is bad, the fuselage and wing are corroded.
The cockpit section is missed. Several parts were used for the restoration of c/n 6057.
Other Ju52s at Lappland:
A few parts of P4+CH are still at its crash site at Aakenustunturi in Finland.
The aircraft crashed in poor weather and all crew members were killed. Parts of tail unit and wing are at the crash site.
Another crashsite of a Ju52 is at Vayla, Finland where 7U+GK crashed nr. a road in autumn 1944 after been shot by a Russian fighter.
Only a very few parts are still there.
C/n 5828, KI+AL and 5596 are two other Ju52s, which are still at Lappland.
At Hommelvik Bay near Trondheim c/n 5751 D-AUQB "Hans Berr" is still available.
This aircraft was previous LN-DAI "Hauken", in service with DNL before WWII.
The aircraft is under water.

One of the still flyable veterans of the Ju52 family is D-AQUI,
which is today operated by DEUTSCHE LUFTHANSA AG in Germany.
In April 1936 the aircraft was original delivered to Lufthansa as D-AQUI.
As soon as June 1936 the aircraft was further sold to Norway, where it was operated by DNL.
In June 1940, after the German occupation, the aircraft again returned to Lufthansa as D-AQUI.
It was mainly used for flights within Norway during WWII and May 1945 it was captured by the Allied Forces.
In 1947 the aircraft got an intensive repair, taking parts from an ex Ju52 seaplane (c/n 130714) from
which several parts of the fuselage were taken and the right wing of c/n 2982.
Shortly afterwards the aircraft went into service with DNL again as LN-KAF, named Askeladden.
In 1956 the aircraft was sold to Ecuatoriana and was registered HC-ABS, named Amazonas.
It was used as a freighter aircraft until 1963, when it was parked at Quito.
In 1970 the aircraft was bought by an American Lester Weaver, who registered the aircraft N130LW.
Martin Caidin finally bought the Ju52 in 1975 and performed a general overhaul of the aircraft.
Now the aircraft was registered N52JU and named Iron Annie.
Caidin presented the aircraft in flying condition on several airshows in the USA until 1984.
In December 1984 Iron Annie returned to Germany and went into a major repair
at Lufthansa Hamburg. After one year the work was finished and the aircraft was
registered for Lufthansa as D-CDLH, but carrying the old registration D-AQUI.
Since 1986 the aircraft, now named Tempelhof, is used for sightseeing flights.

The MUSEUM FUER VERKEHR UND TECHNIK at Berlin, Germany has another Ju52.
This aircraft (c/n 7196 or 7220) was first in service with Lufthansa as D-AXFL.
Later it went to Iberia and it was registered as EC-ABE and EC-CAK.
It was also used with Spanish Air Force as T.2B-108
It was used until 1966 and was then ferried to Berlin Gatow.
Today the Ju52 is displayed with the markings D-2201, which was the first Ju52 tailsign of Lufthansa.
Another registration used with the aircraft is D-AZAW.
As the museum is currently moved, the aircraft might be in storage.
The Museum fuer Verkehr und Technik was renamed into Deutsches Technikmuseum in January 1997.
Mikael Olrog reports this aircraft also
as c/n 4145, registered CJ+KA.

In October 1939 three Ju52 were delivered to the Swiss Air Force as a training aircraft.
They were registered A-701, A-702 and A-703 and were used until 1981
By then A701 was bought by the Freunde des Museums der Schweizerischen Fliegertruppen
at Dubendorf in Switzerland. A702 and A703 were leased from the Swiss Air Force at the same time.
All three aircraft are now used for sightseeing flights, operated by Ju-Air, a subsidary of the organisation.
Today they are registered HB-HOS, HB-HOT and HB-HOP.
In December 1991 Freunde des Museums der schweizerischen Fliegertruppen aquired a fourth Ju52.
This aircraft was originally a CASA352.L registered T.2B-165 with the Spanish Airforce during the 60s, which came from Germany.
After its military carreer in Spain the aircraft was moved to Germany and was there on display as D-CIAK with Kurfiss Aviation
on various airports
before it came to Switzerland. Meanwhile this aircraft was restored into flyable condition
and on August, 20th 1997 it was officially handed over to its original owner the "Verein zur Frderung

be operated by Ju-Air.

Ex Portugese Air Force 6309 is now registered OO-AGU at Brussels.
It was intended to restaurate the aircraft into flying condition by the Sabena Oldtimer Foundation.
However, the structures of this aircraft were very worth and therefore it was just restaurated for static display.
In October 2001 the aircraft was transfered to Muse de l'Armee in the City of Brussel, where it now is on
permanent display.
Some sources also mention PAF 6300 at Brussels since 1988. However, this information
seemed to be wrong, as this aircraft was at Alverca in 1999.

Parts of a Junkers Ju52 were found in the Western Tatra in Slovakia in the end of 1996.
These parts seemed to belong to c/n 131472. It is reported, that the aircraft crashed 30km
northwest of Poprad on 30th June 1944, while the aircraft served at the 8th Transport Staffel.
The crew lost orientation in bad weather and crsahed into high ground under the command
of Kurt Plath. All four crew members survived the crash. At the accident site are still parts
of the fueselage and the tail unit to be found.

At the Museu do Ar in Alverca, Portugal there is one of the world largest Ju52 storage.
Up to about 9 original Junkers Ju52 or French built AAC.1 are stored here. All of these aircraft
have previously served with the Portuguese Air Force until the early 70s and are stored at
Alverca since then. They are intended for exchange with other aviation museums worldwide
and some of the earlier aircraft have already gone, as the 6309, which is under restauration
at Brussels since 1999. "6304", which was withdrawn from use in January 1968 was restaurated at Norway since 1994
and returned in summer 2000 in the
FAP Livery to Alverca for display. Currently one aircraft is under discussion for Italy.
"6315" is not an original Ju52 but an Amiot AAC.1, which was taken over
from Air France and SANA in Dec. 1960 and which was retired in 1971
All stored aircraft are derelicted and show the fading livery of FAP. Some aircraft have wings
or/and engines removed. All of the above images were taken in May 1999 at Alverca.
A special Thank-you to A. Mimoso e Carvalho for supplying this photos!

Ju52/3m g3e, c/n ????
There are reports of several Ju52s, which crashed into the Mediterranean Sea during WWII and remained there
until today. Bill Todd informed me, that he discovered a Junkers Ju52
Junkers 52 in about 20 feet of water just off Theodorou Island off Crete's north west coast. The Pacific Wreck Database
has an image of an underwater wreck of a Junkers Ju52 near Crete discovered by Elliot Smock in 1999. This aircraft shows
massive destructions.

This aircraft was original a Ju52/1m, but was reconstructed while it was built to Ju52/3m.
It was the first Ju52/3m to be built. First flown on 7th March 1932 the aircraft was sold
to Bolivia in the same year together with c/n 4009 and registered CB17, Juan del Valle with LAB.
On November, 4th 1940 the aircraft crashed while enroute above wooden aereas in East Bolivia.
The aircraft remained at the crash site until today, but is in a very poor condition.
A detailled report of Johann Jakob, who visited the crash site, could be found in FLUGZEUG, No. 5/1996
published by Flugzeug Publikations GmbH in Germany.

At the MUSEO NACIONAL DE AERONAUTICA in Buenos Aires
one of the old Syndicato Condor Ju52s is to be seen.
The aircraft is c/n 4061, which was delivered to LAB in 1932 as CB21 Bolivar.
Later it was sold to Aeroposta Agentinia SA as LV-AAN, Quichua.
Today it is displayed in LADE liver at the museum as T158, Rio Negro
Ju52/3m, c/n 4043, T-159, built in 1934
Another Ju52 reported at the Museo Nacionale de Aeronautica in Buenos Aires
is c/n 4043. This aircraft was original delivered to Lufthansa as D-3356 in 1934
Shortly after delivery the aircraft was reregistered as D-ABIS named Kurt Wolf
and went still in 1934 to Syndicato Condor in South America
Here it was registered PP-CAX Curupira.
After the liquidation of Condor the aircraft remained in Argentina
and was registered LV-ZBD later. Finally it was used by the
Air Force as T-159 and went into the museum after it was retired.
Today it is displayed in LADE-livery named Rio Negro, registered LQ-LZD.
As both aircraft are reported in LADE-livery and named Rio Negro
it might be, that both aircraft are the same. Peter Cohausz let us know, that
there is definitely just c/n 4043. Infos about c/n 4061 is welcome.
