That nasty α symbol

Visit my discussion of the non-English glyphs problem if the above heading doesn't contain a character that looks like a Greek lowercase alpha, or if you see box symbols or "?" in the middle of non-English words. Try switching character set to UTF-8 to fix them.

Draka 2α Timeline
Introduction

Ian Montgomerie's "Draka 2" timeline at http://gateway.alternatehistory.com/timelines/Alternatedraka.html is an alternate chronology for the Domination of the Draka. Basically a "rougher, tougher" Draka, who rebel from the British and start World War II in alliance with the Japanese, with Germany staying out of it; they get stomped hard and wiped out by 1951. I'll leave the complete "Draka 2" chronology out because you can get it from Ian's site, but I've developed an alternate to it which I call "Draka 2α" (that's a Greek lowercase alpha) to supply some changes that I believe (IMHO) are more realistic or plausible. These should change the "end state," whenever I get to it.

Contrasting events from the "Draka 2" chronology, S.M. Stirling's original Draka timeline or OTL appear in brackets [thus], as do my comments. By the way, OTL = our time line, POD = point of divergence. As with most alternate history chronologies, there are some OTL events that nobody ever seems to mention, such as the French Napoleonic campaign in Spain. These are assumed to occur unless other events prohibit them; use some common sense. If you think I'm full of it or that I've forgotten a significant event or trend, please let me know and I'll crank it in. There is a strong resemblance to the early parts of the "official" Domination timeline at both http://www.gpfn.sk.ca/~geis/draka/history.html and my transcription, that is due to the similar source material and a desire to keep some things constant. Places named differently in this timeline have the OTL name given in parentheses when first mentioned, e.g. Shahnapur (Maputo, Mozambique). I'll admit that the Second Great War is described in exhaustive detail compared to the rest; the detailed monthly chronologies for some years are on separate pages.

To quickly summarize my changes, I approached this by going back further than the original POD, and then tweaking things to address concerns Ian and I have had about the plausibility of some events. I agree with many of Ian's Draka 2 changes, but significantly disagree with him from 1940 on: the "might makes right" philosophy is already accepted in the Domination, but alliance with Japan would be difficult to justify ("We'll conquer over 3500 kilometers of Persia, British Afghanistan, and Russia and meet you in central China."). So far, the only thing I've insisted on is that the Domination takes over Africa eventually. After that, I've gone far afield by postulating a Socialist Russia, Militarism rather than Fascism (or National Socialism), and a militia-oriented America able to attempt genocide of slaves and Indians.

This timeline is a work in progress, although I will endeavor to keep you from seeing too many signs of incomplete construction. I am open to well-reasoned questions and criticism, as I am all too aware of the limitations of one person's ability to do research.
Also, to make it easier for repeat visitors to figure out what's been changed recently, I'm using CSS to produce red "change bars" in the left margin, as seen for this paragraph. These will stay until that part of the timeline is changed again.
