"A Cognitive-based Multimedia Information Retrieval System for Adaptive E-Learning "
(2004-todate)

"Multimedia Database Systems" is among the leading research areas today. Its application areas are varying from semantic multimedia document retrieval (images, video, sound...) to digital libraries and lot more. However, I saw lot of weaknesses in adapting to current research approaches. So, I looked at another alternative, which is Cognitive Modeling.

This new area is explained as an interdisciplinary study of mind and intelligence: psychology + philosophy + artificial intelligence + neuroscience + linguistics + anthropology.

I had more to say about this new area, please read what I had wrote earlier,

What I understood as Cognition?
Hypothesis I would test in my research
A cognitive model for mind, intelligence and knowledge

Now, I have formalized my study and as a result I am more focusing on implementation of such a system. Fortunately, I have been awarded a postgraduate research scholarship (M.Phil) by the NSF of Sri Lanka. So that, I have some support for continuing my research. I should thankful to my supervisor Dr. D.D. Karunaratne for his support.

"A Behavior-based Cognitive Decision Driven Architecture for Meditated Adaptive E-Learning "
(2006, April)

The new title claims a major step forward of my research. It can be pronounced as a step from philosophy to science. A detailed writing of my current work is a click behind the following URLs,

Philosophy to Science
A Behavior-based Cognitive Decision Driven Architecture for Meditated Adaptive E-Learning

Please, comment or critisize any of my writings. I shall welcome any form!

"Embedded Systems and Robotics "

As I have mentioned earlier, this area is also among my research interests. The following links have something to tell about what I am doing in this area.

My First PIC Microcontroller Project

"Electronic Money Order System for Sri Lanka Postal Department"
e-Sri Lanka Project (2003-2004)

I first joined to this project as a research assistant (developer) and the project is another innovative pilot initiative within the framework of the e-Sri Lanka programme being implemented by the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA). This project was proposed to ICTA by the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), awarded in September of 2003 and implemented in association with Sri Lanka Posts [read more].

I have a banner which describes the process and a presentation, where I am listing below,

"A Notarization Authority for Emails"
Undergraduate Final Year Project (2002-2003)

This was an attempt to answer one of the problems having with today's emails, which is the repudiation issue. A sender of an email would say that he hasn't send the email after actually doing so, or a recipient would say that he hasn't observed the email after actually observing it. More details can be find by reading my project dissertation,

I was able to publish my research activity as a paper,

“A Notarization Authority for the Next Generation of E-Mail Systems”, Hiran Ekanayake, Kasun De Zoysa, Rasika Dayarathna, IITC 2003
Download PDF

After finishing my work, I prepared a pack by including all the source codes, presentation documents and other documents I used during development. It is available in two zip files,
