Articles || Girls' Life Magazine, September, 1999 Girls' Life: What was your first acting job? Beverley: I was 4, and I did an Oscar Meyer hot dog commercial! It aired for a long time and I'd crack up every time I saw it. Girls' Life: What would you describe as your "big break"? Beverley: My big break was probably Quantum Leap. I've done a lot of shows. I did Baywatch and played a blind girl, and I did Melrose Place, where I played Jake's little sister. I was also in a feature film, Crow: City of Angels. Girls' Life: What would be your ultimate role to play? Beverley: I want to do a role where people love the character and go home thinking, "Wow, that's a wonderful person!" Girls' Life: Isn't Lucy that kind of person? Beverley: Lucy is very sensitive and sometimes shy, but most of the time outgoing and friendly and talkative, so I suppose so. But the focus isn't on her, and I'd want my character to be a feature role. Girls' Life: Are you anything like Lucy? Beverley: The only thing that's different about me and Lucy is that I'm not as sensitive. I talk a lot and I'm outgoing, but Lucy cries a lot and I don't. She's always crying and I'm just not that big of a wimp! Girls' Life: Did you look 13 when you were 13? Beverley: I've always looked younger and I've never played my actual age. Girls' Life: Does it bother you that you look younger? Beverley: I don't mind. The real me is inside. I've had people tell me I couldn't go in a PG-13 movie and it's like, "I'm 16!" I have to show my license a lot. Girls' Life: Do friends or kids at school treat you differently now that you're on a hit show? Beverley: They know who I am, and they don't treat me any differently. I'm just a normal kid. I go to the dances whenever I can, and I go out with my friends on the weekends just like everyone else. Girls' Life: What do you do when you go out? Beverley: We go to the mall or the movies or bowling. Girls' Life: What's the hardest part about working on a show and going to school at the same time? Beverley: The worst thing is sometimes I feel like I'm missing out. I'm a cheerleader and I can't make some of the games because I'm working. The other cheerleaders would like it if I was there more because I'm the lightest - another bonus to being small - and they pass me up into the air. Girls' Life: Can you ask the producers on your show if Lucy can be a cheerleader? Beverley: I want Lucy to be a cheerleader. I also want her to go to dances because I think it would be fun to get dressed up. I also want her to do things I don't do in my own life, like run for student council. Girls' Life: Is there anything on the show you've had to do that you thought was cheesy? Beverley: Yes! The first episode, Lucy wanted to get her period and she tried any way possible to get it. May told her to stand on her head, so she did. While I was watching it later, I was like, "Oh, pu-lease!" Girls' Life: So you watch your own show? Beverley: Oh year. I like to see how I can improve. Someday, I want to be a producer or director. I want to experience all sides of the industry. I'm going to go to film school in college, but I don't know which school I want to go to right now. I haven't thought that far ahead because I'm still thinking of what I want to do this weekend! Girls' Life: What's a perfect Saturday for you? Beverley: A perfect Saturday is being with friends, doing whatever. We'd go to the beach and maybe for a nice dinner and the movies. Then we'd all spend the night at someone's house and have a slumber party. |
