Cheryl gave the treasurer’s report.

The District meeting in Hampden was attended by your Chapter Directors.   It was a good meeting with lots of information.  The District is paying our yearly Charter fee of $50 because Chapter C attended and helped at the New England District Rally.  We also received a check of $50 for our Chapter from the District.  There was also a 50/50 drawing that Richard won for Chapter C in the amount of $30.

The 2007 New England District Rally will be held July 19-21.  The host hotel is Best Western Sovereign Hotel & Conference Center in West Springfield, MA.  Make your reservations soon.  Telephone number is 1-800-528-1234.  Be sure to mention you are attending GWRRA New England District Rally.  Registration forms for the rally will be available soon.  We will forward you the web page for the form as soon as it is available.

There is also a contest for design the polo shirt for the rally.  Anyone interested should submit a “photo ready” design to Allen Cyr.  Winner will receive a full registration to rally.

Maine’s assignments for the 2007 NE rally will be selling 50/50 and Grand Prize tickets.  Your help is needed.  Maine will also assist CT with the bike show if needed.

Ed Mushlit did not have an update on the 2007 ride schedule at this time.  Nancy mentioned to get your ideas/suggestions into Ed Mushlit, Bob Norcross, or Richard.  We would like to have our Tentative Ride Schedule for 2007 finalized by the end of January.  This is your chapter and we would like your input for next year’s ride schedule so please get us your information as soon as possible.

Winter activities were requested with no responses.  If you have any suggestions, please let us know.  We could meet for lunches or dinners, bowling, etc.

Our Christmas party will be held on Saturday, December 9th, at 2pm at Allen and Claudette’s home.  It will be a potluck so bring your favorite dish.  Monetary donations were taken to use towards gifts for a family from the Abused Women’s Program out of Lewiston.  Claudette will be contacting the Program this week as the contact person has been on vacation.  She will be trying to get a family of a single parent plus 2 or 3 children.  It was decided that the Chapter would donate $150 towards the project with at least $50 of it going towards a grocery certificate.  If you could not attend the meeting you can send your donation to us at any time before December 1st as the shopping and wrapping will need to be done.  Our mailing address is:  15 Shorey Grove, Bridgton, ME 04009.  Claudette, Barb and Mel volunteered to do the shopping for the family that we will be assigned to.   It was also decided to have a Chinese Auction so bring a used gift wrapped.

The New England Districts will be creating a cookbook.  Maine District needs 40 recipes.  Forms for the recipes were handed out.  Deadline for recipes is December 1st.  Be sure to put “Maine” after Chapter when you submit your recipe.  Recipes will be on a first come basis if there are multiple entries.  If you have a relative or friend who would like to submit a recipe just sign it “A relative (or friend) of Chapter C Maine”.  The cookbooks will be selling for $10 each.  You can order one when you submit your recipe(s) to Allen Cyr.  Cookbooks should be available in July as they are hoping to sell them at the 2007 New England District Rally.

Four corners update – design for engraving on granite bench was passed around.  All Maine Chapters donated.

Our Winter Bash at Green Granite will be March 30-April 1.  Room rates will be $64.95.  Make your reservations early at 1-800-468-3666.  Be sure to mention “Goldwing Group”  to get this rate.

Mention was also made of the Fredericton, NB, Wingless Weekend at the Ramada January 19-21.  $89 for a queen bed or $99 for two double beds.

District Director Allen took the floor to explain about a fundraiser for a “state” charity.  Send your suggestions for a charity to Allen or us.  Camp Sunshine has already been mentioned as a possibility.  This would help to promote GWRRA in the state.  Richard suggested doing a money raffle.  Selling only 400 tickets.

Safety Tip:  Be sure to take the time to winterize your wing correctly so that it will be all ready to go come springtime.

50/50 drawing of $15 was won by Allen.  Congratulations Allen!

Next meeting will be Chapter C’s Christmas party on December 9th at Allen & Claudette’s home.  Bring a potluck dish and a used gift wrapped for the Chinese Auction.  Hope to see you all there.

Richard and Nancy King, Chapter C Directors

                           OCTOBER

ME Chapter C meeting was held on 10/1/06 at the Ground Round in Auburn.

Richard King, Chapter Director for Chapter C welcomed everyone.  Round the table introductions were made.

Those attending:   Earl & Dotty Weaver, Maurice & Pat Daigle, Duncan & Judy Saunders, Dennis & Sandy Wright,  Mel & Art Lane, Dennis Libby, Ed & Barb Mushlit, John & Micki Poor, Allen & Claudette Cyr and Richard & Nancy King.

Nancy gave the treasurer’s report as Cheryl Norcross was absent due to illness.  We hope you are feeling better Cheryl and that you didn’t give it to Bob.

Richard reported that our Sunshine person, Mariette Carey, has stepped down.  Thank you Mariette for all you did.  Richard asked for another volunteer and Sandy Wright graciously volunteered to fill the position.  Thank you Sandy.  If anyone knows of cards that should be sent, please let us know.  We like to send a little cheer from the Chapter to let the person know we are thinking about them.

Next year’s ride schedule was brought up.  Our ride coordinator, Bob Mushlit, brought up the question about having a couple of overnight rides and those present were in agreement.  Halifax and PEI were mentioned but your input would be appreciated.  Also rides are being planned for local festivals and events so if you know of any, please get us the details.  This is your chapter and we would like your input for next year’s ride schedule so please get us your information as soon as possible.

It was decided that the Chapter would hold a poker run in June (not to conflict with Americade week).  Ed Barski will be coordinating this effort.  It will be held out of Motorsports in Lewiston.  This will be held on a Saturday with a rain date of Sunday.  We will need your help to make this successful.  We will get the date out as soon as possible.  This will be a fund raiser with proceeds going to the Shriners as we usually give a donation to the Shriners every other year and this is our year.

Richard questioned getting together for a good-bye luncheon again for the Snowbirds.  None were in attendance.  It was left that Richard would try to contact the Snowbirds to see if there was any interest.  Jack & Mariette and Ed & Carol have left the area already.  Whoever is left in the area if you are interested in getting together, please let us know.

Activities for winter months was brought up.  Ed and Barb Mushlit will be planning a couple of events.  If you have any suggestions (such as bowling, luncheons, card parties, pot lucks), please let us know.

Our Christmas party was mentioned.  It will be held on Saturday, December 9th, at 2pm at Allen and Claudette’s home.  It will be a potluck so bring your favorite dish.  It was again decided instead of swapping gifts to individually donate money for gifts for a family from the Abused Women’s Program out of Lewiston.  What we gave last year was a minimum of $10 per person.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated for this worthwhile charity.  We will be collecting your donations at our next meeting on November 5th or you can send it to us at any time before December 1st.   Claudette, Barb and Mel volunteered to do the shopping for the family that we will be assigned to.   It was also decided to have a Chinese Auction so bring a used gift wrapped.

A check for $125 was given to the Maine District for our share in the Four Corners monument.  A granite bench will be made up with all Maine Chapters listed on it.

Richard asked for an update on the New England Rally for next year.  Allen said that November 1st the registration form should be on the state websites.  Allen will be going to a rally meeting in two weeks and he will pass the information along.

Our Winter Bash at Green Granite is a go for next year.  Room rates will be the same as last year. More details will be forthcoming.

Safety Tip:  It’s fall so be cautious of fallen leaves.

50/50 drawing of $25 was won by Claudette Cyr.  Congratulations Claudette!

Next meeting will be November 5th at the Ground Round at 1pm.  Hope to see you all there.

SEPTEMBER

ME Chapter C meeting was held on 9/9/06 in the park lot of Hannaford’s in Gardiner before our scheduled ride.

Richard King, Chapter Director for Chapter C welcomed everyone.

Those attending:   Bob & Cheryl Norcross,  Earl & Dotty Weaver, Dennis & Sandy Wright, Annette Crozier, Mel & Art Lane, John & Micki Poor and Richard & Nancy.

Duncan and Judy Saunders, our former treasurers and former Chapter C Directors, have resigned due to a relocation to Nashua, NH, for a teaching position.  We wish them both the very best.  They will be truly missed.  We want to thank them very much for all that they have done for our Chapter through the years.

Richard introduced our new treasurer, Cheryl Norcross.   He also introduced Ed Mushlit and Bob Norcross as our new Ride Coordinators.  Please get your ride suggestions with details to us as soon as possible as we would like to have a tentative ride schedule ready to be posted in January for everyone’s planning purposes.  Thank you Cheryl, Ed and Bob for helping the Chapter in these positions.

Richard mentioned the planned Four Corners Park in Madawaska.  The District of Maine the Goldwing Road Rider Assoc. would like to purchase a bench for the Park. The cost would be $125.00 per Chapter. The inscription we would have on the bench is still up in the air. If your Chapter could donate, this would be a cheap way to list your Chapter on the bench.  Those in attendance all agreed that this was a good idea.

Richard brought up the fact that we will be starting our winter schedule for monthly meetings at the Ground Round Restaurant in Auburn.  The next monthly meeting will be on October 1st  for 1pm lunch and meeting.

Annette questioned details for the upcoming MA New England Rally.  Richard will follow up on this.

Our next ride to Owl’s Head Museum on September 17th  was mentioned.  We will be meeting at Hannaford’s parking lot in Gardiner for a 9am departure.    Dennis Wright was talking with the President of the Owl’s Head Museum and Dennis was asked if we would put our bikes on display while we are there. So polish, polish, polish those Wings.

Safety Tip:  Falling leaves – Be careful when riding especially as our fall season approaches.  Leaves can be slippery even if not raining, especially in corners and when stopping.  Also be aware that school is in session and you need to stop for school buses in both directions.

Richard thanked everyone for coming and we were off for our scheduled ride.

Hope to see everyone at the next meeting on October 1st at the Ground Round Restaurant in Auburn for 1pm lunch and meeting.

Richard and Nancy King, ME Chapter C Directors, GWRRA

                                       JULY

Maine Chapter C meeting was held on 7/9/06 at McDonald’s in Lewiston, Maine..

Richard King, Chapter Director for Chapter C welcomed everyone and introduced new members John and Micki Poor and Frank and June Palmer.

Those in attendance were:   Bob and Cheryl Norcross, Mike and Polly Trepanier, Ed and Barbara Mushlet, John and Micki Poor , Ed Barski, Frank and June Palmer and Richard and Nancy King.

Richard questioned the group if they wanted to have ice cream runs every other week.  It was suggested we have ice cream runs every week.  We will be staying with Tuesday nights but will have Wednesday nights as a rain date.   On July 18 our ice cream run will be to Fat Boy’s in Brunswick (Route 24/Old Bath Road – opposite Naval Air Station).  Your ride would be to and from the ice cream shop.  Plan to be there between 6- 6:30pm for socializing, etc.

We are looking for a new ride coordinator.  If anyone would like to do this, please let us know.  Duties are to plan rides and places to eat and to create a tentative ride schedule.  This is something you do not have to do alone.  A committee can be formed with you in charge.

Richard reminded everyone about the New England Rally coming right up and the need for people to assist Allen and Claudette.

Other reminders were given for Chapter V’s picnic and the Maine District picnic.  Directions to Allen’s house will be forth-coming via e-mail.  If you don’t have an e-mail and need directions, please give us (647-2287) or Allen a call (375-4811).

                                  April

Maine Chapter C met at Green Granite Inn in North Conway, NH, at the Chapter’s Winter Bash weekend March 31-April 1.

Those in attendance were:  Duncan and Judy Saunders, Clifford and Nancy Parker , Bob and Cheryl Norcorss, Dennis and Bonnie Libby, Allen and Claudette Cyr, Richard and Nancy King as well as many, many guests from other New England chapters.  (There were over 60 people in attendance.)

The weekend started on Friday night with people from Chapter C enjoying a delicious dinner at The Homestead Restaurant.  Then people returned to the Green Granite Inn where they enjoyed the hot tub and pool and good conversation with others.

Saturday morning there was a Road Captains Seminar put on by Rhode Island District Educator Daniel Courtney along with fellow instructors Robert Burns, Earl Knight, John Knight, and Joe Coyne.  This was a very informative seminar attended by 25 people and is recommended highly.

Also Saturday morning there was a Co-Riders Seminar put on by Rhode Island District Educator Daniel Courtney and fellow instructor John Knight.  This, too, was a very informative seminar attended by 8 people and is highly recommended.

We continued with our popular afternoon gathering where friends gathered and enjoyed good conversations. The winner of the Trivial Pursuit Quiz was drawn.  Dennis Libby won the gift certificate from Fandangle’s Restaurant.  Congratulations Dennis!

Those who signed up to attend dinner at Fandangle’s Restaurant met in the lobby of the Inn at 5pm to proceed over to Fandangle’s which is within walking distance.  Fandangle’s did an excellent job at serving 60 people in a timely manner.  The food was delicious.  The free coupon for a wine or a dessert per couple were enjoyed by many.  The desserts were big enough for two people.  Some people couldn’t believe “Richard ate the whole thing!”   This coupon was provided by the Green Granite to our group.

After a delicious meal and good conversations, everyone returned to Green Granite Inn to make their bids on the Silent Auction articles.  This is our big fund raiser for the year.

We had many tables of articles contributed by the different Chapters present.  Everyone seemed to have a good time.  No articles were left.  There were many articles that were  aggressively bid upon – all in fun right up to the “cutoff time”.  Of course, the highest bidder won. Winner of  50/50 Sarge Richard NH. Winner of two one night stay at Green Granite Richard Ma. and Joan Houde Ma.

Allen thanked everyone for coming.  He also opened the floor to all the different Chapters to promote their upcoming events.  Rhode Island is having their Kickoff Breakfast on April 23rd  at the Elks Lodge, West Greenwich, RI,  Massachusetts Chapter A is having a Poker Run and “Give A Hand” Event on Sunday, May 21st at Cycles 128, 107 Brimbal Ave, Beverly, MA, New Hampshire Chapter A is having a Dice Run and Flea Market on May 21st  Memorial Park, Pembroke, NH.

Sunday morning some of us forgot to set our clocks ahead but we caught up with a group from ME Chapter C and RI Chapter B and had a great breakfast at Banners Restaurant and then said our goodbyes.  We were not the quietest bunch in the restaurant but we all had a lot of fun and had the waitresses laughing along with us.  After wishing everyone a a safe trip home, we all went our separate ways with lots of nice memories to keep.

                            February

Maine Chapter C meeting was held on 2/5/06 at Ground Round Restaurant in Auburn, ME.

Richard King, Chapter Director for Chapter C welcomed everyone. We did round table introductions as we had some new attendees.

Those attending:   Norma Spinney,  Bruce & Sherri Trussell,  Bob & Cheryl Norcross,  Allen & Claudette Cyr   Duncan & Judy Saunders, Dennis Libby, Jeff & Lesli Doucette, Glen Tompkins, Clifford & Nancy Parker, John DeBlois & Donna, John & Mary Gallagher, David & Joanna Gallagher and Richard & Nancy King.

Treasurer’s report was given by Duncan Saunders.

Richard mentioned the Wing Ding invitation for all Chapter C attendees.  Let us know if you are interested  and your preference for either breakfast, lunch or dinner as we are gathering the headcount for our chapter to send in.  This is a “Get Together” for either breakfast, lunch or dinner for all Chapter C and C2 members around the world.  National will come up with the cost, location, time, etc.

Richard mentioned that Bud Conner is going to be operated on February 22 for a total knee replacement but is hoping to join us for the riding season.  We wish him the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.

No snow and no safe ice is our reason for canceling our Open House for Winter Carnival/Mushers Bowl in Bridgton on 2/11.  If anyone would like to get together and do another activity this month (like bowling, charity dance, etc.), just let us know.

If anyone has suggestions for winter activities or if anyone would like to coordinate one of the previously suggested activities, please let us know.  Thank you.

Richard asked Allen for an update on our Winter Bash  March 31, April 1 at Green Granite, North Conway, NH.  Allen mentioned that Bud Conner’s daughter is having a scapbooking event all weekend and was wondering if we could swap rooms with her.  It was decided that we would swap with her where she will be using the room all weekend and we only need it for Saturday.  Someone asked what a Chinese Auction was.

Allen explained that everyone brings something in good condition to put for sale (like new unwanted Christmas presents, etc.)  Highest bidder at end of auction wins.  Half the money collected for an item goes to the Chapter who brought the item.  The other half goes to Chapter C.  Bring your items early Saturday morning to Allen and Claudette so that they can be marked and set up for the auction.

Richard asked Claudette for an update on the Women’s Abuse Center Christmas charity.  Claudette mentioned that we were able to completely fulfill the family’s list of wants.  No thank you note has been received as yet.

Richard thanked Claudette for volunteering to coordinate this effort and all her hard work.  Claudette explained to the new members that we chose to give to this charity instead of swapping Christmas presents between the members.

Our tentative ride schedule is now on the website (www.geocities.com/gwrramainec ) under Events 2006.

All rides are subject to change.  We will be e-mailing a copy to you as well as sending hard copies to those who do not have and e-mail address.

District Director Allen brought up Rider Education.  He passed out a Rider Education Levels Program Application (Level I-III) form for everyone to sign up if interested.  To attain the first level all you need to do is fill out this form and return it to Richard or Allen.  Other levels are explained on the form.

Allen also mentioned our Chapter vests.  Vests are now $62 each with patches.  Add $2 for 2X or larger.

If you want your name on the vest, it will be an additional $5.  We request payment at time of ordering.

Allen also mentioned that Mike Royce (Chapter A) has tickets for General Jackson and Smiley Hollow events at Wing Ding that are up for sale as he has since found out that they will not be able to attend.  Contact Allen if you are interested.

Allen brought up the Four Corners Ride requesting Chapter C to join in the funding of a bench that will be located at the Northeast corner of US in Madawaska, Maine.  More details to follow.

Richard mentioned the raffle tickets for a new Goldwing or $15,000 in cash.  This raffle is in conjunction with Pennsylvania and New England District.  Tickets are $5 each.  Drawing will be held in August.  If anyone is interested in tickets, please contact Allen Cyr.

Safety tip was if you ventured out on these warmer winter days, please be aware of the sand and especially potholes.  Bike tires fit nicely in most of the potholes!

50/50 drawing of $27.50 was won by Nancy Parker who donated it back to the Chapter.  Congratulations and thank you to Nancy and Cliff.  The Chapter, in turn, gave Nancy two raffle tickets (mentioned above).

Richard thanked everyone for coming.  We look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting on March 5th at 1pm at the Ground Round in Auburn.

Allen reported that as of the first of December 2005 GWRRA had not distributed the Katrina funds yet but that they would be distributing them before Christmas.  Maine Chapters donated $1300.  As far as National there was $60,000 contributed toward this fund.  Thank you everyone.

Richard brought up the question of keeping people on our mailing list we haven’t seen or heard from for meetings or rides.  Allen mentioned that as long as they are members of GWRRA, we need to keep them on our mailing list.  If they are not members, we do not need to keep them on our mailing list.
