Club News 200510/02/05 – Our monthly meeting and goodbye lunch (to the snowbirds) was held with24 people in attendance. After the meeting and lunch those who wished went on a ride to Bailey’s Island, Topsham and back to Lewiston. It was a beautiful day. We enjoyed the ocean views and our ride with friends 9/25/05 - Ten Goldwings met at Irving's Gas Station in Augusta on Route 27. We left promptly at 10am for a ride to the Rangeley area. We had two new couples joining us for this ride. We headed through Belgrade/Stratton area and then on to Kingfield/ Eustis area ending up in Rangeley. We had a couple of rest stops along the way. We saw some very different cloud formations. Someone mentioned that they would be frightened by them if they were out west. It was a dry but cool day. We parked our wings together on Main Street where several people stopped to admire them as well as take pictures of the wings. We ate at the Red Onion Restaurant where they had a separate room all set up for us. They were very accommodating and the food was good too. Leaving the restaurant we headed on Route 4 south for our return trip. We actually found an ice cream shop open on Route 4 and, of course, had to stop. Everyone enjoyed their ice cream and conversations, said their goodbyes and eventually headed their separate ways. A nice fall day for riding with our wing friends. 9/17/05 - Ride was cancelled due to rain expected from the east and the west. 9/11/05 - A very chilly start to the day but after our well attended monthly meeting three wings headed out for the BNAS Air Show while seven other wings led by District Director Allen headed to Augusta to drop off their toys for the Toys for Tots run. By then the weather had warmed up to low 70's which was a perfect riding day. After dropping off the toys, we proceeded to Rockport where we ate lunch at the Rockport Diner. We were in and out of the Diner in less than an hour. The food was delicious and the service great. After leaving Rockport Diner, Ray led us on a guided tour past Earl and Dotty's home and Randy and Kathy's home. We saw some beautiful mountain views and countryside. We then headed back towards Wiscasset and on to Bath where we stopped for an ice cream break. After the break, we proceeded towards Brunswick where we were greeted by the Blue Angels performing overhead. What an awesome sight to see - such precision and power. All in all a beautiful fall day spent riding with our wing families. 8/28/05 - Four wings met at Roy's Hamburgers in Auburn. After eating breakfast we headed out at 8:30am riding the turnpike to Newport where we met more members of our club and a couple of members from the Bangor chapter at the Irving Gas. All in all we had 13 wings heading out to Greenville where we stopped at Indian Hill Trading Post and met a couple more members from the Bangor chapter. The Indian Hill Trading Post had 3 floors of hungting, fishing, camping, clothing and indoor articles. They even had frog togs (rain gear) which are advertised in our Gold Wing Magazine! From there we headed to Kelly's Landing for a delicious lunch. The Restaurant was very accommodating to our rather large group. It was a showery overcast day so we headed home. Of course the rain didn't stop us from stopping for an ice cream break . Another day spent riding with our friends. A big thank you to Dennis Libby for planning this ride and making the restaurant arrangements. 8/20/05 - Good Morning. . . . . . . .first want to start by saying that we had a great time at the ChapterV Picnic, and as usual, Jim & Linda were the 'ultimate' hosts !!!! We were treated royally !!!! Everybody in the Chapter , all very nice and very receptive, appreciatiated that very much, also, the Chapter from Lincoln were there, a few from Bangor Chapter too, enjoyed all their company. In other words, we had a great time ! The weather was a little on the 'testy' side, but, nevertheless, it didn't hamper the great time we all had. Thank you Jim and Linda for everything. Now, for more news, Jack & I and Dennis and Bonnie, stayed at Jim & Linda's place with our little campers'. They had everything ready for us, and we want to thank them very much for the trouble they went through for us, and all they did for us. For Jack and I, it was an experience indeed. . . .as we left the house around 6:30a.m to meet Allen & Claudette in Lewiston, (we left early so we could have breakfast before our departure at the intended time of 8:a.m.) we left our driveway, and went around the corner, down a couple of house and 'poof' we had a flat on our rear tire, swerved here and there like we were doing the 'Hula Dance', then came to a stop. We did not go down. Needless to say, we were not going to make it to meet Allen & Claudette. . . . . . . walked the few houses back to our house and made a call to have the bike picked up and brought to "Reynolds's", of which they came and picked up the bike within 20 minutes, loaded it on the flat bed truck and off Jack went to "Reynolds" with the driver and bike to have a new tire put on. . . . . . . . .I, in turn, got a hold of Allen and Claudette at Mc Donald's in LSTN and told them to go ahead and we would leave as soon as we could. Jack called, and said they were taking him right away at "Reynolds's" and that he was having two new tires instead of the 'one' put on, and would be home as soon as he could. He got here at 11:30a.m. (had already hooked the trailer on his way back to the house) and we left the house at 11:45a.m. We decided to take route 95 all the way to Houlton, and then picked up route 1. . . . . . . As we got closer, kept in touch with Jim & Linda, and when we arrived to Van Buren, we called one last time, and Jim told us that Allen and another bike left their place to meet up with us to bring us to Jim & Linda's. We finally got to their place around 7:20p.m. A long day, ( stressful beginning, as we got up around 5:45a.m. to get ourselves started early ) but a good day. We are very thankful that this "flat" did not happen on the super highway, where we would of been going about 70 mph. . . . . . . or more. We all left yesterday morning, with a little drizzle, off and on, rain suits on, most of us, and we stopped at "GRANNY's" for lunch. . . . . . .our final stop was at Irving's in Newport, where we all shed our rain suits, as the sun was out and it was hot, around 76 degrees. . . . . . we had a great time, arrived home around 6:15pm last night. Did some unpacking, the camper, that is. . . . .alls' well, and finishing up today, laundry and such. A great time. . . . . . . . . ! 8/13/05 - A District Picnic was held at Allen and Claudette Cyr's. All the Maine Chapters were represented by their Chapter Directors and members. It was a great turnout and great weather. What an impressive site to see all the wings lined up shining in the sunlight. It was great to be able to meet new people and talk with fellow Goldwingers. Allen and Claudette put out a fantastic spread of food for everyone to enjoy. Allen and Claudette thanked everyone for their help and support for a very successful Maine New England District Rally. Allen made presentations to Jack Carey for making all the beautiful Maine carvings used in the centerpieces for the rally and Nancy King for her work as being treasurer for the rally. 50/50 was won by Mariette Carey. A number of door prizes were then drawn. Everyone had a great time. 8/7/05 - After our montly meeting held at Governor's Restaurant in Lewiston we saddled up to head for New Hampshire to ride the Kancamagus Highway. Five wings headed out with Duncan and Judy Saunders leading the pack and Richard and Nancy King as tail bike. We had great weather and saw beautiful views of the White Mountains. We ate at a steakhouse in Lincoln, NH, where we all enjoyed the food and company. We headed out coming back by Lake Winnipsaukee riding within a softball's through of Keepsake Quilting much to the disappointment of a couple of ladies as we did not stop. Then we were on to Route 25 heading towards Ossippee where a few wings split off to head home. Richard found out later that a few of the wings had ended up at Cole Farms for strawberry shortcake and home made pie. He really wished he had gone with them as Richard never passes up strawberry shortcake! Mike Trepanier had mentioned what a large strawberry shortcake they had at the BBQ Pit Restaurant in Ossippee but no one seemed to want to stop there. 7/31/05 - Our meeting place for our chapter ride was Hannaford's parking lot in Gardiner. Promptly at 9:30am eight wings headed out with Jack and Mariette Carey leading the way and Dennis Libby as tail bike. We rode to Chicki Lake turnout where we were suppose to meet Earl & Dotty Weaver but Earl had gotten ill and couldn't make it. Earl had planned the ride and restaurant to Pemaquid for us. We really appreciate all his preplanning for a succesful club ride. Hope you are feeling better now Earl. Dennis and Sandy Wright met us at the turnout and graciously led us on our ride. They did a great job leading us on some really nice riding and scenic roads. Nine wings enjoying another beautiful day for riding. We ate at a restaurant right on the water and enjoyed the company and the views. The food was delicious. After eating we rode to the Pemaquid Lighthouse where most of us enjoyed ice creams and the ocean views. We eventually left the Lighthouse area and started the return trip. We were thankful for a nice day to ride with our friends. 7/21-23 - New England District Rally was held in Bethel, Maine. Thank you to all who attended and helped work. 7/10/05 - Our monthly meeting was held at Governor's in Lewiston, Maine. Those in attendance were: Jack and Mariette Carey, Dennis Libby, Duncan and Judy Saunders, Earl and Dotty Weaver, Dennis and Sandy Wright, Robert Hoppe, Bruce and Sherri Trussell, Bob and Cheryl Norcross, Bob and Bunny Gowell, Ed and Carol Barski, Allen Cyr and Richard and Nancy King. We were all surprised to learn that Ed Barski had broken his foot/ankle. He was telling us he broke it trying to put his trike up on the center stand! (but everyone knows he broke it golfing in a sand trap.) Best of luck Ed for a speedy and complete recovery. After breakfast and a quick meeting we were nine wings heading off for a club ride. We headed to the Rangely area by way of Rt 202 and Rt 41 where we saw beautiful scenic views and had a good lunch.. After lunch we headed out of Oquossoc taking Rt 17 over the Height of Lands stopping at some of the scenic turnouts to take pictures. Our next stop was Coos Canyon in Byron, ME, for another photo opportunity and a stretch of the legs. It was starting to get warmer. We then headed to Rumford where we stopped for an ice cream break (boy was Richard happy!). We then headed to Bethel for a quick stop at the Grand Summit to see if there were any rooms available for the rally dates. None were available at the Grand Summit. We then departed Bethel each going their own way or with their own group. Another beautiful day spent winging it across Maine with friends. 6/26/05 - Those that didn't go north to Madawaska, Bruce and Sherri Trussell, Bob and Cheryl Norcross, Steve Lowell from California, Mike Trepanier, Rick and Rhonda (a friend of Mike's) Dan Young and Richard and Nancy King met in Turner and headed for Colbrook, New Hampshire for the Blessing of the Bikes. A few of the bikes actually went to the Blessing and the rest of us went to the waterfalls just east of town and had our picnic lunch. Everyone enjoyed the day and had a safe ride home. 6/24-26/05 - Our trip to Madawaska was great. . . as usual, Allen & Claudette were good 'hosts' to all of us on the way up and back and showing us different places up in the 'county'. . . . . great riding etc. and the Madawaska group welcomed all of us, and treated us like they knew us all our lives. Had a great time, great people both here and there, can't ask for better. It was hot, in the 90's , had a small shower, nothing drastic on the way up, and that's it. . . . .went into Canada for a few hours, the next day to see the gorge and the triple falls , great sight to see. Had a wonderful time. Of course, it was VERY hot coming home, out in the blazing sun (by the way that we all have been waiting for, for a whole month because of all the rain we have been having, but, didn't expect it to be 'this ' hot) it sure beat down on us 'big time'. . . . . . everything went very well. . . . . all came back safe and sound. A little tired, but worth it. . . . . . . . . .today, washing the bike, and taking it 'easy'. . . . . (Mariette Carey) 06/19/05 - Father's Day - We met at McDonald’s in Lewiston for a departure of 9am. Seven wings headed out for our fourth club ride of the season which was a mystery ride created by our District Director Allen Cyr. Allen guided us through Lewiston, Auburn onto Route 11 heading towards Naples. Upon entering Naples we stopped in the Causeway for beautiful views of Brandy Pond and Long Lake. Our last wing just made crossing the bridge before it closed. After leaving Naples we headed out Route 11 south. Our next stop was Little Ossippee Pond for a rest break. It was a beautiful day for riding but there was a lot of pollen in the air. Looking into the hills, the pollen looked like a dust storm. We proceeded on Route 5 towards Saco. After leaving Saco we headed to Old Orchard Beach where we stopped for lunch having pier fries, pizza and, of course, ice cream. Parking was graciously provided by Richard’s daughter, Michelle’s father-in-law at Beachwood Motel. We enjoyed the scenery for an hour. A couple of wings stayed in Old Orchard because they had friends there to visit. The rest headed into Portland and stopped at Jack and Mariette’s where they graciously showed us all their toys and their homes. We then disbursed in our own directions. It was another beautiful day for riding with our friends and relatives. 06/12/05 - Our fourth club ride was held Sunday, June 12th. We met at Hannaford's in Gardiner and left promptly at 9:30am. Six wings went off for a ride to the coast. Bruce and Dennis guided us on some very scenic routes, pointing out interesting spots/things along the way. In Searsport we saw a grave stone in a cemetery that has a lady's boot on it that keeps re-appearing. They even went so far as to replace the stone and the lady's boot still keeps re-appearing. For lunch we ate at Helen's Restaurant in Ellsworth which was excellent. They went out of their way to accommodate our group. We then headed to Bar Harbor area. We drove up Cadillac Mountain for views overlooking the bay. There was a cruise ship in the bay which appeared to be suspended in the clouds as there was low cloud coverage that day in the bay. It was a beautiful 90 degree day with approximately 20 to 30 degree cooler temps at the coast. In fact, a couple of co-riders bought sweatshirts along the way to wear. After admiring the views, we headed home. Our new club photographer took plenty of pictures during the day and she will be passing them on to our new webmaster who will post as soon as possible. For a day that the weather forecast was predicting severe thunderstorms in the afternoon, it turned out to be a beautiful day for riding with our friends. 06/05/05 - Finally the weather cooperates for our third club ride on Sunday, June 5th. What a beautiful day for riding. We saw many groups of motorcycles out on the roads. We had our monthly meeting at 8am at Governor's in Lewiston with a short meeting. We were eight Wings happy to be riding on such a beautiful day. We stopped in Fryeburg for a break and met Steve from California who joined us for our ride. Now nine Wings headed to Castle in the Clouds. We arrived there shortly after noon and met Allen and Claudette Cyr who came from Bethel. Also there was a group from Maine Chapter A who had already toured the Castle and were enjoying lunch. What beautiful views we saw of Lake Winnipesaukee and surrounding mountains. We could see for many miles. We heard a history of the Castle and then were allowed to view it room by many rooms each exhibiting skilled hand craftsmanship in every aspect. It is a well built and well lit (by daylight) Castle. We had a lunch and headed back. We were thankful for such a beautiful day to ride with our friends. |
