Madiona Tommaso   [1803-1864]

Born in Senglea on the 7th of May 1803, son of Angelo and Magdalena Gilbert.  He lived where he had his workshop at 37/38 St. Julian�s Street in Senglea with two brothers.  He was not only a painter and engraver but also a musician.  When very young he impressed his teachers.  In fact Governor Sir Thomas Maitland recommended him for a scholarship abroad.  He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti under Minardi and Overbeck.  In Rome he found the patronage of Princess Dona Vittoria Barberini.  When he returned to Malta he was commissioned to paint in churches.  He flattered himself as a good musician and could play the guitar very well.  Unfortunately since he went blind,  his career ended suddenly.
He died on the 6th of April 1864.

Mallia Carolus   [active 18th century]

A painter and engraver who worked in Rome at the end of the 18th century. 
The information we have about this artist is so limited that only one source gives an indication of where he was born.  The only canvas we know for sure is his bears the coat of arms of Grandmaster Manoel Pinto.  There are also some attributed engravings in the Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta.

What we know about this artist is only from the recent documents found by Can, Joe Abela (Zejtun). It is possible that he worked with Francesco Zahra and was one of the artists who helped him with the altar of repose at the Imdina Cathedral, where he earned 8 tari a day.

Micallef Luciano    [b.1954]

Born in Birkirkara on the 1st of November 1954,  and had his first education at the Junior College.  He studied art under Guzeppi Briffa at the Malta School of Arts.  He studied also in Barcelona and at the Accademia di belle Arti in Florence, Italy,  after winning a scholarship for four years.  He is a prolific painter and has many works in private collections and in public places.  In 1994 he was awarded the Citta di Valletta Prize.
He is married to Patricia Abdilla.

Micallef Salvatore   [1810-1891]

This painter was a student of Giuseppi Hyzler and also followed his principles.  He did some fine pieces and was very expressive.  His works were at times mistakenly attributed to Hyzler.  He also did some Maltese watercolour landscapes depicting night scenes.

We know nothing about this artist except the date when he painted the only canvas we know is his.

Micallef Grimaud Aldo  [b.1925]

He was born in Valletta on the 23 of April 1925.  Besides being a painter he is also a tenor.  He did some large scenic murals and is particularly know for his portraits.  Among these we find those of Guze Damato and Sir Maurice Dorman.  He did work in Paris at the Palace of Count de Paule and at the English Martyrs Church in London.

Mifsud Georgina   [1906-1982]     

An amateur artist.  She was born in Valletta on the 20th of January 1908 and christened at the Parish of Porto Salvo.  She was the daughter of Judge Giovanni Battista Mifsud and Carmela Rolando Speranza. She lived for a time in Marsaxlokk.  In 1938 she married Edgardo Barbara Camilleri and went to live in Sliema.
She died on the 31st of March 1982 in St. Catherine�s Hospital at Attard and was buried at the Addolorata Cemetery (West HA A 50)
