A book on Artists Guzeppi Theuma was born in 1945. In 1964 he settled in the UK, where he attended The Hertfordshire College of Arts in the City of St Albans, Herts. In 1977 he returned to Malta and studied the development of visual arts in his native country. He took parts in collective exhibitions in Malta and the UK mainly expressing abstract concepts. Guzeppis art is uncomplicated. His palette is at once logical, yet realistic of the subject he composes. Virtually all of his creations depict an aspect of the real, uncompromising world that surrounds him. His effect of colour and light in the digital forms reveal the artists pursuit for the truth and this is also reflected in his intimate portrayal of life, both still and alive. In the 1980s he was a leading caricaturist for several national papers. He is better known for constructing metal sculptures, but his art ventures into oils, watercolours, digital art, and recently, ceramics. He is also considered as an art historian, being an author of several publications, particularly about Maltese artists and their works. His latest work is a hardbound deluxe fully illustrated publication complete with a short biography of 100 Maltese artists who painted in churches and an extensive list of their works. It took more than 18 years to complete and should be considered as an encyclopaedia of the development of Maltese ecclesiastical art. In 1999 he joined the executive Committee of the Zabbar Sanctuary Museum where he is now the secretary. His main priorities are documentation and restoration coordination. |
