VILLAGE VISIT.

Down the Yanayacu river there are three different jungle villages: San Juan of Yanayacu and Junin are within a 45-minute boat ride of the Lodge, in anywhere from 50 to 150 inhabitants in each village. They warmly welcome guests who are invited to experience first hand the local customs, housing, food, drink, religion, and village governments.

Sometimes you will even find yourselves enjoying and inter-village soccer game when even the staff and guests from the lodge compete for local bragging rights. Most villagers rely upon fishing and agriculture for their livelihood and take a personal delight in sharing the nature, wealth and beauty of their rainforest and its wildlife with you.

FISHING VILLAGES: - A native people are shown here checking the nets from their
Dugout canoe. The fish are either eaten fresh or dried with salt and later transported to the Iquitos market for sale.

VILLAGE SCHOOL : - The children will show the school supplies that they got, with which to study. These school supplies were a donation from the tourists, but certainly most show determination to learn. The Evangelic and Catholic religion influence in the village is very strong.

SECONDERY JUNGLE : - Very close to the village there are manioc and banana plantations, a staple in the jungle diet, as banana chips and manioc fries taste very much like fried pototoes.
