Things I Like...

I like paper. This is why I'm studying visual communications, and it goes along with my love of graphic design. I enjoy folding paper (origami) and I'm intersted in anything that's in print. I'm a lover of books - mostly fairy tales - and some of my favorite authors are Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Kurt Vonnegut (who's up in heaven now - haha), Ray Bradbury, H.P. Lovecraft, and probably some other great storytellers that I've forgotten at the moment. I also enjoy comic books and graphic novels, especially the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman, and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jjonen Vasquez (who also does the cartoon, Invader Zim).

I like cartoons. I was a Nicktoons fan from the start. The Ren and Stimpy show, Rocko's Modern Life, The Angry Beavers, and Invader Zim are my favorites. I also love all of Hayao Miazaki's animated features. They're artful and full of a kind of magic that I don't think american animators really know how capture (sorry, Walt). But Disney is great - the older the better, though.

I like jazz. I always have music going on in my head. I think they call that sort of thing "schizophrenia" when it doesn't carry a tune but luckily the music doesn't tell me to do anything that I wouldn't normally do... Jazz, though, is music for the intellect. I love Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Dizzie Gilespie, Louis Armstrong, Ellis Marsalis, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and the list goes on and on.

I also like most other kinds of music, including classical, rock, hip-hop, rap, funk, reggae, and just a little bit of country. Some of my favorites are Incubus, Stevie Wonder, Chopin, Biggie, The Beatles, Modest Mouse, Dre, Primus, Billy Joel, Sade, and again the list goes on... I probably like a lot of music that you can't stand, but I probably like the music you like, too.

I like movies, too, but my taste in movies isn't as descriminating as my taste in music. The best movie I've seen lately was Pan's Labyrinth, and my favorite movie of all time is probably The Sound of Music - or Mary Poppins - or something silly like that...

Things I Do...

I play slow-pitch softball on a women's league every Thursday night. It's lots of fun. I also like to go ice skating whenever I get the chance, and I love going to the beach with my family. Mostly, I play with the baby, play the piano, make things with paper, listen to music, and do school work. So, there's my life in a nutshell.
