Capability Analysis: How is it made?

These steps assume that a control chart has been previously constructed and the system has been determined to be stable. Since a control chart has been constructed, one can assume that the average range (R-bar ) and the grand mean (X-double bar) have also been calculated. The specifications are also assumed to be known. These steps address capability for variables data.

  1. Construct a histogram.

  2. Calculate the estimated standard deviation.

  3. Sketch the distribution.

  4. Calculate the percent outside the specifications.

  5. Calculate the Cp and Cpk.

  6. Analyse the results.
