Capability Analysis:
Remember
- Capability analysis is a set of statistical calculations used to assess the performance
of a system in relation to its specification limits.
- Capability analysis has predictive value only if the system being analyzed is
statistically stable.
- Specifications are not the same as control limits. Specifications are set by the
customer, engineering, or management, and control limits are based on the data collected
to make a control chart.
- The analysis reveals the percent of output which may lie outside the specification
limits and "how" capable the system is. It draws a picture of the distribution
of output relative to the specifications.
- Capability analysis is based on the idea that reducing the variation around the target
value is the goal of quality improvement.
