Tanelorn: A History
Abstract:
Tanelorn is an island located in the King's Gulf, a bay between Carlin and Thais. This kingdom is still young, with only 206 years of existence.
Tanelorn has four main cities: Drenitem, Tanelorn (capital of the Kingdom), Azure and Sanctuary.
Other important points of interest include the Darkwood forest to the south; Mount Firehill to the northeast; and Mount Everice to the northwest.
Geography and Law:
Tanelorn has a complete ecosystem, with various kinds of races and creatures. The weather varies from region to region. There is a lake near the city of Tanelorn named Triun.
The city of Tanelorn is located in the middle of the island. It has varying weather with extremely cold temperatures in winter and hot summers. The other seasons are mild. The current king of Tanelorn is Alastor, and the queen is named Lehana. This city has 100,000 inhabitants and an army of 10,000 men.
The culture is advanced, of the cavalierly age (like high middle age, but more advanced). The law of the land is the king and his men, and the throne is passed to the son of the King.
The city of Drenitem is southwest of Tanelorn, south of the river Elenen and north of the Darkwood Florest. It is ruled by the King Tremeron and Queen Elena. This city has 40,000 inhabitants and an army of 4,000 men.
The culture is medieval age, slightly less advanced than Tanelorn. Drenitem is known as the home of the knights, because they very good at training their men to bare arms.
The city of Azure is at the southwest of the island and it is near Mount Everice. The city filled with fountains and it's near the sea. It is the home of the sorcerers and it's also the most advanced culture you can find on the island (Renaissance).
It is ruled by a majority, meaning issues are voted on by all the people, like most places these days. The city has 20,000 inhabitants and an army of only 1,000 men.
Aleno is currently the mayor of Azure.
The Darkwood Forest is the home of those who dislike the cities, because they feel better there living among the woods. There are no civil laws there, each person can live life the way they want. Though, being in the southwest corner of the island, it's the only way for people from abroad to enter, so Darkwood Forest is a key point for Tanelorn to defend. Paladins like to test their skills here in the covered woods.
Sanctuary is mainly the home of the druids, for only trusted people can live there. Sanctuary has many rivers cutting the forest, and it's also a good place to rest.
The people are ruled by the eldest druid in the forest; his government is only passed when he dies. Only good people may live here and have the help of the druids.
Mount Firehill is the home of Cyclops, dragons and dwarves. It's also the main source of metals.
Mount Everice is home of the creatures who live in the snow. There is a legend of a Yeti roaming around there, causing some humans to go there and investigate.
Tanelorn and the Ages
Tanelorn was once a colony of Thais. They fought with Carlin for their independence. This was a great time of oppression, filled with great battles that people from all over the kingdom were proud to have overcome.
The first king of Tanelorn was Telerius, the first king of Drenitem was Drinus, and the first mayor of Azure was Drake Bluestaff. Under the government of these men, they gained independence in a war against Thais, and the day of independence is the mark 0 on our calendar.
The Tanelornian calendar has the "War of Wrath" at the year 50.
This was caused by the Lich King Meltrus. We don't yet know why he attacked the humans with his undead hordes, for this secret remains in the past.
The hordes came from a place north of the island named the "Great Abyss". The few humans who dared enter there never returned.
The war remained until the year 200, with the government of the second king of Tanelorn, Alastor. That was when all the undeads were killed along with Meltrus and his soul-stone.
The Guardians of Tanelorn were founded at the year 206.
Religion
As you may have noticed, the kings of Tanelorn rule for a very long time. The reason is unknown but people suppose that the Crown is a magical item that makes the kings live for over 200 years.
Tanelorn is known as the land that the gods cannot touch. The Gods' magic and other magic that affects other lands are almost obsolete in Tanelorn.
Tanelorn sees this as a blessing from the good Banor to protect them. Banor is praised by almost the entire population.
