The Green Glass Sea
by: Ellen Klages

It is the middle of WWII and Dewey and her father have been moved to an army town. A non-existent army town! At least, it's that way if you look on a map.

The only thing surrounding the secret town of Los Alamos is dry, New Mexico desert. Dewey's father, a scientist, is working for the army along with dozens of other scientists to develop something so secret it is only refered to as ''
the gadget.'' This ''gadget'' is so powerful that, if completed succesfully, it will end WWII! Dewey is a girl who is interested in building, mechanics, and engineering. It makes it difficult for her to get along with the other girls at Los Alamos. Dewey struggles to put up with the other girls' teasings, while her dad works long hours at the laboratory. Little does Dewey know that this ''gadget'' will completely change her life!

I really enjoyed this book. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. The characters and places in this historical fiction novel make these events come to life. The more you read, the more you feel a special connection with Dewey. Even though this isn't a fast-paced, action-adventure novel, you just can't put it down. This is definitely a must read!

My Secret Unicorn-The Magic Spell
by Linda Chapman
I loved this book. It's about a girl, Lauren, who wants a pony. Her parents buy her a gray pony that she loves. She doesn't know the secret that her pony has! She meets a nice book store owner who helps her find out about her pony.
This is the first book in a series about Lauren and her pony and how they work together to have fun and help others.

Original poetry by Nicholas
Green
Feels like grass just wet by a sprinkling of rain,
Tastes like key lime pie,
Smells like grass freshly mown,
Makes me feel zesty.
Makes me think of spring showers,
       tulips ready to bloom,
       leaf buds on new trees,
       spinach just picked,
       lettuce eaten fresh,
       salad with croutons,
having a good time with my friends.
Makes me remember standing in Monet's garden.
Makes me want to run around in bare feet on the first day of spring!

Monthly Math Challenge
A "Weighty" Problem

There are three dogs: Skipper, Patch and Sammy. You need to figure out the weight of each dog, but they won't get on the scale by themselves. See if you can figure it out after you have weighed them in pairs. The weights are as follows:

Skipper and Patch together weigh 121 lbs.
Patch and Sammy together weigh 130.5 lbs.
Skipper and Sammy together weigh 95.5 lbs.

Good Luck!

E-mail me with your answer. The first three people with the correct answer will have their names published in next month's website!
Answer to February 07 Math Challenge:

Congratulations to Brian F. for being the only one to e-mail last month with the correct answer!!!
