This site has a reading contest. You can sign up with your class teacher or with your parents. There is a list of about 600 books of all different levels. After you read a book on the list, you take a quiz about it. You earn points toward free prizes. I have already won a 6 month subscription to Highlights magazine and a play(acting) book.

This is a cool website for kids and for parents and teachers. It has all kinds of information about animals, astronomy, and other things that you can use for research projects. You can make your own calendar and print it out. There are coloring pages for little and big kids. You can even learn words in a foreign language. For teachers there are quizzes and worksheets that can be printed out for science and social studies activities. I especially love the section that lists all the different animals.

A website for helping with identifying wild birds. There is a great on-line identification tool that allows you to select the shape of the bird, color the bird the way you saw it, give information about where you saw it, and then ask for help with identification. The tool narrows down your choices and then you can click to see photographs of actual birds to help you identify your mystery bird. There are also pages for viewing breeding ranges, taking "challenges" and keeping a bird journal online.
