Stormbreaker
by Anthony Horwitz
When the police knock at your door at 2:00AM, it's never good.

Alex Rider, who has lived with his uncle since the unfortunate death of his parents, is now alone. The police have come to inform him that his uncle has died in a car crash. The teenager has no other family, so he will stay in his uncle's London house with the American housekeeper. Everything has gone wrong for Alex. Things even seem wrong at his uncle's funeral. From his uncle's bank co-worker who wears a gun at the funeral, to the bank manager's description of his uncle's crash, to the van that has carried away his uncle's belongings during the funeral, something doesn't seem right. Alex starts to suspect that his uncle didn't work at a bank, and perhaps he didn't die in an ordinary car crash. Alex's suspicions are confirmed when he finds his uncle's car in the junk yard in perfect condition. Well, "perfect," except for the bullet holes in the window! Alex is determined to find the truth, but the truth proves to be dangerous.
I really liked this book because there is no stop in the action. It keeps you turning pages until the end. This is definitely a well-written adventure book, and I highly recommend it to all mature readers because of the violence included. Make sure to read the other books in this series:
Point Blank, Skeleton Key, Eagle Strike, Scorpia, and Ark Angel.

Original poetry by Nicholas
The Sources of Squeaks
A rusty hinge on your car door,
Wet shoes on a linoleum floor.
My dog when he's locked in his crate,
A house settling in when it's late.
The mice that under your stove stay,
The wind that makes the trees sway.
Cars stopping when the light turns red,
Old floor boards when you get out of bed.

Big Post-Holiday Sale!!

The stores are having a big sale with Christmas decorations marked down many times. You see an Outdoor Inflatable Lawn Snowglobe that is now only $15.75. You are wondering how much you are going to save by buying it. You can see by the sale signs that at the first markdown, the price was reduced 10% off the original price. After that, the snowglobe was marked down 30% off the sale price. It went down again 50% off the new sale price, and at the last markdown, it was reduced 80% from the last sale price.
What was the original price of the Lawn Snowglobe and what percent are you saving from the original price?
