Bound Brook and Ninth Grade
A View of High School
"What if I was just dreaming? What if I lived in a pear? What if my watch read 4:20 every hour, every day? You can bet your dollar I'd be happy!"
~ Incubus, "Take Me To Your Leader"

The mayhem called high school began for me in September 1998. I never liked high school and became very discouraged about the hard work and new environment. I honestly hated high school and everything that had anything to do with it. That first year was tough for me, but I made a lot of new friends.
I remember when I first entered high school and all the things that happened that first year. My dad drove my older sister and I to school and dropped us off in the back every morning. We walked down the sidewalk and into the school. In September she was taller than me, but by June I was taller. My homeroom had a few of my friends from South Bound Brook and some other people from Bound Brook. Brian, my friend from second grade, was also there. We have been good friends since I first moved to South Bound Brook. We were friends through elementary school and middle school. He was my first boyfriend in fourth grade and we've gone out a few times since then. We went out for most of ninth grade too, but broke-up right before I moved to North Brunswick. We've always been better off as just friends. I hope we can stay in contact when we're older.
Band was second period and that was usually a fun class. Brian and I played saxophone so we sat next to each other. We both played alto, but I played tenor for the first half of the year. It was nothing like the tenor I played in middle school so I eventually switched back to my alto. My sister, Melissa, played flute and she sat in front of us. Marching band was fun. We had gone to a family reunion that summer in Colorado and wound up missing band camp. One time at band camp, well I guess I can't really say that. Anyway, I managed to learn the program, but I never memorized the music.

I had Geometry Honors second period and I was the only one from South Bound Brook in the class so I knew no one in the class. I later met and became friends with Jen and a few other people. Jen and I are still friends and talk to each other occassionally.

Melissa and I both had Biology Honors second period, but we had different classes. Sometimes, our classes played games against each other, especially to review for tests. We also did some interesting labs. Erendira was my partner when we dissected the fetal pig. She did most of the work because I refused to touch it, but I answered most of the questions.

Fourth period I had gym. This was the year I finally learned how to play volleyball. I learned how to get the ball over the net when I served and was actually participating in the game instead of praying the ball doesn't come to me.

Me in 9th grade
I had English fifth period and had a very interesting year. We had one teacher for the first few months and then she just disappeared. Rumors started flying that she was in the hospital with pneumonia or had suffered from a nervous breakdown, but we never found out what happened to her. A month later we had a new teacher and we continued with the class. It was English Honors, but it was still a pretty easy class.

My favorite class, Latin, was sixth period with Miss Emhoff, my favorite teacher. We had some pretty cool people in our class and it was really fun. I think I learned more in that first year of Latin than I did during the next two years. I think I've remembered more of it too.

Seventh period was lunch and it seemed like it took forever to get to that far in the day. It was the last lunch period. I sat by myself for most of the year doing my homework. I sat with Francesca, one of my old friends from South Bound Brook, towards the end of the year and eventually wound up over by Jen.

Eighth period changed during the year. For the first semester we had Forensics, which is some strange kind of debate class taught by the evil Mr. Cugini. We all hated him and he yelled and cursed at us in return. One day he got really mad at one of his classes, cursed them out, and left the classroom. We never saw him again. That's okay because none of us liked him anyway. We got a new teacher a week later and our class became a speech class. I actually learned a lot from that class, but can't remember anything from Forensics.

World History Honors was ninth period. This was the last period and I was usually ready to go home by this time. It was a hard class, but it helped me prepare for after we moved.

Wow! I still have my schedule from 9th grade!
