Crazy things have happened in my life, but I'm a crazy person so it's okay. One of those crazy things occurred on 9/11/01, the day the twin towers fell. I don't think I'll ever forget that Tuesday morning. I was in school, second period, AP Psychology. Mr. Chesler came into our class around nine and said that a plane had hit one of the towers. He returned five minutes later to tell us the other tower had been hit. The rest of the day was a blur. I remember one girl telling us that the towers had collapsed. She seemed more happy that she had found out the news before us than she was upset about what had happened. I remember driving home south on Rt. 1, very vacant for twelve in the afternoon, and seeing a whole group of ambulances rushing north. After I got home, I watched the videos of the towers being hit over and over and then watched them fall. I nearly started crying from confusion and shock.

I see the New York City skyline all the time and it looks very different without the towers. You can tell that something is missing. Another thing that really bothered me was how the whole country suddenly became patriotic. It's not like this was a bad thing, but no one cared before. Suddenly the flag became a fashion statement instead of a symbol of our country's freedom. Everyone had flags on their clothes, cars, and anywhere else they could think to put them. Companies started putting flags on everything just to make money off of the latest fashion craze. I believe that the people who are truly patriotic are the ones who owned flags while the towers were still standing.

I have a problem with being a pessimist. I think life is overrated. What is the meaning of life anyway? It seems like some form of punishment. Life is all good when you're a child and don't have to worry about anything. Life ends when you start school. You have to finish school or you turn into a nothing. After you graduate from high school, you have to go to college or you're still a semi-nothing. Eventually, you finish school, but life never restarts. Then you need to find a job so you can make money. You need money so you can buy things to keep yourself alive. In some strange way, you work so you can keep yourself working. It's like the circle of life or something. Eventually we're too old to work so we can finally retire, but by then we are too old to do anything. That's when we can sit around and wait to die. That's really all life is anyway. Sure, there are some good parts to it, but life is basically something to do while we're waiting to die. You should make as much out of your life as you can or it gets really boring.
