The RED RAVEN

The first Marvel hero to get his own title has recently returned to the Marvel Universe after years of obscurity and limbo... and here is everything you wanted to know about him but were afraid to ask!

(neat web page design to come later)

Fittingly, the Red Raven first appeared in Red Raven Comics #1 in August 1940. The series would be renamed Human Torch Comics with the #2 issue

Red Raven Comics #1 also included The Human Top (since retconned into an entirely different character in the Invaders series), Comet Pierce (Kirby's one-shot space hero), Officer O'Krime (a comedy character from various Timely comics), Magar the Mystic (one of Timely's many magicians), The Eternal Brain (later shown in an altered form in The Lost Generation/Front Line), and a story called The Death Switch (a text piece).

The true creator of the Red Raven has been lost to the mists of time, many suspect that he may even have come from the mind of Jack Kirby himself, not beyond the realm of possibility, considering the similarities between the bird-men and other utopian civilizations Jack created. It could also have been Jack's collaborator of the time Joe Simon. Or both. Or neither.
