| Utah Valley is located 45 minutes south of Salt Lake City, Utah and the
International Airport. Nestled at the base of the Wasatch Mountains, the cities of Provo
and Orem have a combined population of 150,000 people. The climate is mild but has four
seasons with average annual temperatures ranging from 21 degrees in January to 92 degrees
in July. In a 1991 survey by Money Magazine Provo/Orem was rated as No.1 in the nation
in "The Best Places To Live In America" rankings. Since that time, the area has
consistently rated in the top 20 best places to live. The latest published rating ranked
Provo/Orem as 3rd.
Utah is one of the most literate states in the nation, graduating 94 percent of its
high school students. Eighty percent of these go on to pursue higher education. The area
has led the nation for three consecutive years in the number of high school students who
qualify to take the Advanced Placement (A.P.) college exams.
Provo/Orem is one of the safest places in the nation to live. Crime is an estimated 60
percent below other regions. The crime rate in Utah Valley is only 41.5 crimes per 1000
people. This figure is two-to-three times less than comparable cities in the United
States.
Provo/Orem is a great sports city. Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State
College pack their sports arenas regularly. Some of the finest skiing in the world is less
than an hour away. Golf, fishing, biking, hiking and camping attract visitors from all
across the nation. |
