FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WSHL Kicks off
new season with Las Vegas Tournament
Provo,
Utah - August 30, 2001 - The Western States Hockey League is launching
its eighth season with
its annual
"kick-off" tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada on September
21-23. All
seven teams will be competing in this event.
The WSHL is
bigger and better than ever in 2001/2002. The league
administration
has been revamped, four new teams are competing this
year, and
there's a "new-look" logo to reflect the aggressive new
direction
the league is pursuing. New teams in 2001/2002 are the Salt
Lake Maple
Leafs, the Valencia Flyers, the Nevada Rattlers and the San
Diego Surf.
They join the established franchises - Bay City Bombers,
Utah Valley
Golden Eagles and Phoenix Polar Bears - to form an
exciting seven
team league which spans four Southwestern States.
Phoenix appears
to be the early season favorites, based on a strong off-season recruiting
job. The Golden Eagles and Bay City Bombers are perennial contenders and
are expected to press Phoenix for the league lead. Strong reports from
the new teams show some real promise. How high they may go will be revealed
at the Las Vegas tournament.
