Bottom of the page. Tuesday, 04 March 2003 Weather Another day of excellent warm weather in Eleuthera. This
is the typical weather Eleuthera experiences year round, usually. The
temperature got up to a warm 87 degrees farenheit with little breeze blowing
in from the sea and no chance of rain today. Its hot, warm, muggy and we love
it. It seems like its going to be a warm summer this year. Enjoy the
Eleuthera weather. News The Galaxy restaurant and bar is open again. They opened
officially on Thursday night to a crowd of Eleutherians looking for a good
time. Friday night saw a live band from Waterford and lots of fresh cold
drinks. Its gonna be a great time in Tarpum Bay now that the Galaxy sports
bar and resturant are open once again. In addition, Shines seafood bar and grill is open as well
on the waterfront in Tarpum Bay. It seems now that we have lots of night
spots to go to these days. Lets see, theres Erics snack foods and bar on east
front street, then there shines seafood just south of that, and too theres
Quincy’s conch salad stand open all night till the customers last and then in
the western district theres Jan’s bar and on the top of the hill theres
Galaxy restaurant and bar so the rounds can be made checking out each one at
night or during the day for that matter. What matters is that you spend some
money and have some fun in the main time. So see you all there having fun club hopping in Tarpum
Bay. Fishing report Conchs are making a come back. The guys are diving lots
of conchs now a days and many can be bought among other fresh, caught daily
seafood products at the fish market at the waterfront in Tarpum Bay,
Eleuthera, Bahamas. Enjoy.. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow. Back to top of page Back
to home/start page Wednesday, 26 February 2003 Weather Excellent weather today. The days temperature got up to
85 degrees farenheit and it was nice and sunny all day. The skies were clear
blue and bright. The rain has subsided and the weather is nice and sunny
again. It was much needed rain but having a perfect day is much more
important. This way we and the farmers get what we both need. The night time temperature is expected to
remain above 78 degrees farenheit. News The public schools are having their annual sports days
and that means that those not involved with sports are out of school until
sports and the seasons midterm exams are over, that is until Tuesday of next
week. For the next two days the public schools all over the Bahamas will be
having inter school sports. That is sports among each school for the first
day then the next day district school sports. Hoorray for holidays, any excuse just to get out of
school. Fishing report The boys are fishing their hearts out and having a great
time in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera. You can purchase your varieties of freshly
caught fish at the waterfront fish market at Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera today. See
you there. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow. Back to top of page Back
to home/start page Tuesday, 25 February 2003 Weather More rain for Eleuthera today. The skie were overcast most
of the morning and on into the afternoon with a cool 79 degree farenheit,
warming up to about 83 degrees by the mid afternoon. More rain is expected
through tomorrow. It is the first significant rain Eleuthera has gotten since
the near cancelling of the junkanoo parades during the new year junkanoo
celebrations. Enjoy the great Eleuthera weather while you are here. News The blossoms are evident that this year there will be
mangoes on the many fruit trees scattered in just about every yard on the
island of Eleuthera. For the first time since hurricane Michelle devastated
the island of Eleuthera two years ago the mango trees have heavy blossoms.
That’s a delightful promise for the farmers of the fruit in many parts of the
island as well, especially Bluff and Spanish Wells. The Eleuthera express mail boat came in today along with
the day break mail boat. The weekly coffee social of the Haynes library was held
this morning. Scrabble and socializing among the patrons of the library as
well as the weekly meeting of the library association took place. The Haynes library annual silent auction will take place
on the 8th of March. As well don’t forget the annual Eleuthera
natural arts guild at Unicorn Cay scheduled for march 29th be there.
It promises to be a great event. Fishing report Remember that fresh fish products can be purchased daily
at the waterfront fish market at Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow. Back to top of page Back
to home/start page Monday, 24 February 2003 Weather For the first time since Christmas it has begun to rain
significantly in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera. All night since yesterday mid-day
rain has been falling. Onlookers witnessed the gathering of the huge dark
grey clouds coming in from over the waters affront of Tarpum Bay’s fish
market. The temperature has dropped as well to around 76 degrees farenheit.
The clouds are totally overcast and visibility is about only ½ a mile since
the rain is falling all over the island constantly. Drivers are asked to take
caution in this weather since the roads are slippery and wet. Its not such a great day for the outdoors
today. However do enjoy the liquid sunshine as tourism officials seem to call
this weather here in Eleuthera. This weather is expected to last for the next
few days. News There were a number of traffic accidents over the island
of Eleuthera this past weekend. A car with three nurses ran off of the
highway and plummeted into the sea in Governors Harbor Saturday morning. No
one was injured badly but the car is a total loss. In another accident involving a truck a man turned the truck
over after turning too fastly around a sharp corner just before reaching the
double bay area. Elsewhere in Hatchet Bay Eleuthera a man damaged his car
in an automobile accident in the rainbow bay area after driving too
wrecklessly and being rear ended by another driver. One warning is for sure, Eleuthera is a beautiful island
with nicely paved roads. The road way is wide enough to accomadate two cars
comfortably and the speed limit is 45 miles per hour at its maximum as
permitted by law. Drivers on the island are warned however that the road has
a lot of curves. On this road you have to drive defensively since you never
know what is around the other end of a curve. Island driving is lovely and
relaxing as well since much of that driving along the island is along the
seashore with its great scenic views and vistas however take precautions not
to become complacent and not pay attention to your driving, you can seriously
cause an accident by not paying close attention to what you are doing. That
is not to say that one cannot enjoy the scenic driving on Eleuthera its just
that because there is not much traffic one might get carried away and think
that due caution in driving on such a lovely island is not needed. Enjoy the scenic views on the island of Eleuthera and
please drive safely same time taking the right precautions. It is also worth
mentioning that driving on Eleuthera is done on the left side of the road and
not the right hand side as you do in America and Canada. You are asked to
take the necessary time to drive slowly with caution while adjusting to the
local, excellent other than the curves, driving conditions on the island of
Eleuthera. And since there is only
one highway from one tip of the island to the other that should not be too
much of a problem to comprehend. Keep it safe driving in Eleuthera. The life you save
might be your own. Fishing report Due to the recent cold front and influx of high winds
fishing may be suspended today due to the inclement weather however you can
buy freshly frozen fish from several house locations in the village and on
the island. Just ask any resident where you might go to purchase freshly
frozen fish. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahams tomorrow. Back to top of page Back
to home/start page Thursday, 20 February 2003 Weather Once again today, a great day of weather in Eleuthera.
The temperature today rose to 86 as the wind swept over the landscape. A
coldfront has brought in high winds, a little higher than usual. It was a
great day for the outdoors and for the beach. Enjoy the Eleuthera weather as
summer weather is fast approaching. This summer is expected to be a hot one
as usual. News In a tragic story today another total tragedy was avoided
as a house fire swept through the home in a Tarpum Bay neighbourhood.
Neighbours came to the rescue with buckets and hoses and put the fire under
control before it became a total loss of the house. Arson is suspected in the
mishap and the neighbourhood is safe as one man is in police custody in
concern with the matter. Fishing report Fishing has returned to Tarpum Bay as the weather has
become good for fishing. The seas are favourable for daily tours at fishing
and the mainstay of Tarpum Bay is back to the waterfront. Visit the fish
market daily for your supplies of fresh fish products. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow Back to top of page Back
to start/home page Wednesday, 19 February 2003 Weather A light cold front touched down in Eleuthera since
yesterday afternoon. The temperature dropped a few degrees to 84 degrees. The
skies were clear with only occasional cloudy clouds. There was a slight
chance of rain today. Enjoy the eleuthera winter weather. News The search for an economy goes on in Eleuthera.
Eleutherians are still hopeful that their economy will lturn around and somehow
someone will come into the community with the finance and the goodwill to
create jobs for the local people. Eleuthera and the other out islands are
still neglected territories by the hierarchy in the Bahamas including the
central government. The leading party campaigned on a platform of reform and
investment for the outislands and we were promised a quick turn around in the
local economies but up to now that still hasn’thappened and there is no sign
in sight that it will happen any time soon. Every project rumoured either
does not happen or it falls through in the negotiation stages. Many
Eleutherians are disgusted at the results of their voting for the leading
party in the national elections last year. They have thus far done absolutely
nothing to turn the economy of Eleuthera around. Eleutherians are tired of spending day after day in the
idleness of umemployment and many are afraid to venture off of the island in
search of jobs because of issues like high crime in the inner cities and
Grand Bahama. Things are getting tougher and residents are still expected to
keep up with all government licensing requirements and other government fees.
When will ascension come? When will the blessed people of Eleuthera get their
chance to experience economic well being presently shared with the
inhabitants of our crime ridden inner cities? That time must come soon for Eleutherians who have been
holding on economically and socially for the last twenty five years. All
governments have failed us and have neglected to show us the gleaming side of
home. One can only get so much of feeding on the pristine nature and the sunshine state of the
islands barren environment. Otherwise, today was a regular uneventful average day in
Eleuthera. Fishing report Theres nothing like the freshness and the good taste of
fresh just caught pan frying fish like the red snapper, the grunt or the
passing jack. These fish hold the most admiration of Eleutherians since they
are the most plentiful in our waters and they are the best bargain for the
buck at the fish market. Fishermen go out on any given good weather day and
net quantities of these delicious fish. Get your supply today at the fish
market at the waterfront, at the docks at Tarpum Bay today. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow Back to top of page Back
to home/start page Tuesday, 18 February 2003 Weather Another gorgeous day in Eleuthera as the weather was great
today. The temperature was a warm one with the day time temperature rising to
a high of 88 degrees. Its simply beautiful. There was a slight chance of rain
and the skies were clear and bright. There was a slight breeze blowing over
the landscape at around 15knots. Enjoy the weather and make the outdoors and the wonderful
beaches apart of your day in Eleuthera. News There is much concern by foreigners searching for
beachfront property on the island of Eleuthera. One representative is making a
difference when it comes to the availability and sale of such properties on
the island. That company is Rock Sound Properties founded by local
businessman Mr. Albert Sands who owns the entire complex of Rock Sound
Supermarket and the bank. Running that business today is his Son, Mr. Thomas sands
much the juniour to his father but nevertheless a clever young business man
who believes in giving value for the dollar in his running of Rock Sound
properties here in South Eleuthera. You can see the website for the company
at: www.rsp1976.com The business has
been in day to day operations since 1976 and continues to grow in a positive
manner under good management. It has meant much to the community of South
Eleuthera and has produced some of Eleutheras finest employees and
professionals. Thomas is experienced with issues like property
management and sales. He has been in the business for over five years now and
is improving on the foundation his father laid for him and the remainder of
the family. He is assisted by his able siblings and his parents in the day to
day running of the business both realestate and the Supermarket. If your looking for a good value in beach front property
here on Eleuthera you can contact Thomas Sands at his office using the
contact information provided on his website. We wish you well in your search
and know that you will get the treatment you deserve by allowing Rock Sound
properties to assist you in your search of development property or just a
home on the water front of the freedom island of Eleuthera. Fishing report The bone fish are returning to the waters of Tarpum Bay
as the summer weather catches on. More and more favourable conditions can be
seen at the seashore when the weather gradually is warming up to summer
temperatures. The bone fish are plentiful and once the summer weather catches
on you can catch as many of the silver bony fish as you wish for free in the
Harbor waterfront Tarpum Bay. If your looking for a tourguide to take you
bone fishing you can find one by inquiring at the waterfront for a good
reliable tour guide of which the town of Tarpum Bay has many. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow Back to top of page back
to home/start page Monday, 17 February 2003 Weather Excellent weather in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera today. The
temperature is around 86 degrees farenheit and there is a little chance of
rain with occasional cloudy skies. The wind is blowing at around 12knots. It
is a nice cool day, just like a typical summer day. Enjoy the weather and
enjoy the outdoors. It’s a great day for the beach. News Venta club at winding bay, Eleuthera is up for sale. A
buyer showed up last week from Italy and looked at the property. From all
rumors heard the new buyer loves the property and will be talking to Bahamian
officials this week in order to get concession like duty free importation of
equipment and building goods. He wants to expand the hotel. Sounds like the
right kind of news for Eleutherians but we’ve heard so much like that over
the past few months. We just got the word that the project at Jacks Bay is
discontinuing. The property is up for sale. So lets move on to new and better
things here in Eleuthera. Fishing report Fishing goes on in Tarpum Bay. Lots of small pan frying
fish available at the docks these days. The grouper spawning season is over so
we’ll probably not see large amounts of grouper like we did in the beginning
of January when they were bringing in the grouper by the truck load. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow Back to top of page Back to home page Wednesday, 12 February 2003 Weather There is no predicting the weather. We were hoping that
the warming trend would hold throughout the week. However today the weather
has already begun to change. The wind is up to around 20 knots and the
temperature has dropped by five degrees. The temperature today got up to a
high of 84 degrees and will drop down tonight to below 69 degrees. It’s a
cooling trend starting again and it may be appreciated by Eleutherians since
the past few days have been very warm. The sun was out all day. The sky was
clear with only occasional cloudidness. Enjoy the cooling weather, summer
will soon be here. News Tourism is a wonderful business and occasionally you run
into some funny stories from your colleagues and here is one today. A friend
of ours was by the seashore in Governors Harbor teaching a class of children
to paint. Up cam a couple in their sixties walking and having a great time
touring the town of Governors Harbor. The couple stopped and were impressed
by the painting group gathered at Anchor bay by the Haynes library at the
seashore. They wanted to stop and share with the attendees there. They told
them this story. They explained that they had been coming to Eleuthera for
the past fifty years but each of those times they stayed on the island of
Harbor Island and did not venture onto the mainland of Eleuthera, not even
once in their visits. They came into the airport at north Eleuthera and went
directly to Harbor Island for their stay. They in fact love Harbor island so
much that they did not bother to tour the remainder of Eleuthera. However
they went on we decided recently that we should get over and tour Eleuthera
at least this once and they were amazed at how beautiful the island was and
its people. They thought nothing could top their experiences in Harbor
Island. Our friends thanked the
couple for stopping and wished them well on their way. After talking with the
couple our friends could not believe their ears. The couple finally gave
Eleuthera a chance after fifty years and was amazed at its beauty. How
insular can a couple be? One has to wonder about this couple in their sixties
and wonder what they were thinking. After all Harbor Island is only a few
hundred feet from the shore of Eleuthera and ferry boats make thousands of
trips to Eleuthera at three island dock every day. How could they choose on
spot out of all of this tropical splendor for fifty years and think they had
chosen the best spot there is. Whats in the food at Harbor Island? One can
only wonder. We gave a sigh of relief at that story at least finally the old
couple is giving the island of Eleuthera a chance after fifty years. What an
incredible story. Stay tuned, Keep listening. In another story the banks road in the back of Palmetto
point was closed by a bull dozer which dug up a sand hole the other day. This
road runs between palmetto point and Double bay, another private home area on
the waterfront Atlantic beach. The entire road is about six miles long and
was interrupted by a land owner who was tired of the auto traffic and thought
he could end it by simply closing the road at his own will. How could he come
to the Bahamas and decide to do such a thing? The road has been closed now
for more than a year. Appearantly there was another road and five years ago
the owner of the land decided to open the road placing the path in its
present location. The present owner did not like that ploy and chose to take
matters into his own hands. About three weeks ago some one made the situation clear
to the local commissioner of the North Eleuthera area at Governors Harbor and
after deliberating he has decided that the road must be opened at all cost to
ensure another route for the local people to the double Bay area. This road
is right on the beach side and the present owner took it into his own hands
to make the public know that he wants peace and quiet and no disturbance from
traffic. All beaches in the Bahamas are public property like other countries
around the world. So therefore he cannot deny acess to the local people by
taking matters into his own hands and closing the road this way. We hope he
gets a fine for doing so. That way the message will be driven home that the
road way is a public property and not his own personal tool. My how will we
have to go in order to realize private property cannot impede the progress of
the public? The public people in the broader sense are the ones who matter.
Not the private single land owner. Service to the public is what this matter
is all about. Than and selfish motives by the land owner. Now people working
at Double Bay can drive directly to work through the public banks road. Fishing report Large quantities of fresh fish are available at the
waterfront fish market here in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera. Come and get your
supplies of fresh fish today at Tarpum Bay. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow Back to top of page Back to
home/start page Tuesday, 11 February 2003 Weather Our day was a warm one today. The temperature rose to a
high of 89 degrees farenheit. The day was a warm shiny one as the sun swept
over the Eleutherian sky. There was a light chance of rain and the day was
humid and warm. It was another great opportunity for the beach and outdoors.
Enjoy the weather this week as the warm front is expected to last through to
the end of the week. News Promolont INC is forging ahead with its development today
in Eleuthera. Already there are representatives of the company on the island
and they are actively involved in the planning stages of the island
development much needed by the people of Eleuthera. There was a much unneeded scare in the nation of the
Bahamas and Eleuthera today as rumors around the nation had it that a
commuter aeroplane crashed somewhere enroute from Eleuthera to Nassau today.
Appearantly someone or persons saw a flare fired somewhere on the yamacraw
shores of Nassau and thought it was an indication that it was a plane calling
out for help after being exploded and crashing. The rumor went wide. All
around the country people were calling friends and family from other islands
and spreading the rumor from early in the morning. The rumor persisted all
day and was so evasive that the Royal Bahamian police and the US coast guard
were involved in the active search for the downed plane. No plane was found
and the national radio station reported hourly to the public informing them
that there was no report of a plane missing from the major airlines in the
Bahamas. All aircraft were accounted
for. It is not known yet if this was real fact or just a harassing rumor
spread by someone on the island of Nassau. Rumor in the Bahamas seems to be
the best ways and is the traditional way of spreading news. Today the Eleuthera express and the day break brought in
their regular loads of freight today. Remember that on Friday the 14th the
international food day will be held at the Anglican church at the parish hall
in Governors Harbor. There will be on sale for the public a wide variety of
international foods from the various countries represented on Eleuthera from
around the world. Do get out to Governors Harbor and support the parish hall
and the Anglican church on Friday the 14th. This is an annual
event held by the Anglican church. Proceeds will go to serve the needs of the
public and the Anglican church. There was a large ten foot shark sighting witnessed by
about fifty foreign home owners at the water front in Governors harbor today
at the weekly coffee social of the friends of the library. The shark was an
unusual sight at the waterfront. It thrashed around violently appearantly
almost beaching itself on the beach in front of the library. Scrabble is a weekly featured game at the weekly Tuesday
social. A calling goes out to all scrabble players on Eleuthera to play at
the weekly coffee social. Fishing report Fishing is both an income earner and a favorite past time
of all Eleutherians. In fact if one grows up and cannot fish it is unusual
for that Eleutherian. Fishing is an ingrained part of growing up on the
island. If you wish to fish or want to watch others at the seashore fishing
Eleuthera is the place for you. These very natural activities make up a large
part of the entertainment activity on the island of Eleuthera. See you at the
shore during your next visit. Don’t forget to bring your fishing line, bait
and your snorkelling gear. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow. Back to the top of page back to
home/start page Monday, 10 February 2003 Weather Wow, what a gorgeous day it was in Eleuthera today. The
cold spell is over for a bit and the sun is out and shining in a clear blue
sky everyday now. It was a great day for the outdoors or the beach. Do enjoy
our lovely 86 degree weather. See you at the beach or outdoors. News The weekend is over and Eleutherians are back to work.
The island was quiet today with everyone back to work and the fishermen out
on the sea doing what they do. Not much significant happened in Eleuthera
today, that is in South Eleuthera. Everything was nice average and quiet. The only thing news worthy is the reporting of the
Bahamian police holding up drivers for tinted windows. The police claim that
their safety is threathened when approaching such dark vehicles that they cannot
see into. There is a fine for dark tinted windows and if the tint was not
manufactured in the glass it must come off or the vehicle owner is taken to
the local court and fined at least more than $140.00. Several people have
reported being held up by the police because of this problem they have with
tinted windows. Light tint seems to be OK with the police because they
can see through the vehicle. That is the test for being taken to court for
this problem. Just a warning. A word to the wise is sufficient. Fishing report Another day of fishing in Eleuthera. The fishermen are
having a tough time finding sufficient conchs to supply the local market.
They have to go farther and deeper for conch and the supplies seem to be
running out. Ocassionally now there will be a large supply of conchs at the
daily fish market. Get your supplies now. Also the best bargain at the fish market is the pan
frying fish. The grouper is $3.50 per pound. Lobster is now $12.00 a pound
daily. See you at the fish market today in Tarpum Bay. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow. Back to top of page Back to

temperature is up to 83 degrees farenheit and the skies are all clear and
bright. The sun is warm today so those of you wanting a suntan your in
business today for sure. There is virtually no chance of rain today. Its
going to be another great night with open clear skies with all the stars out
as well. This weather is expected to last for the next few days. This is the
nicest spell of weather and the longest spell of sunshine we have had since
Christmas day. Enjoy the outdoors and your tan if your having one. The
beaches will be crowded today because of this nice weather. News What a bizarre story I have for you today in the news.
Its right out of an inquirer news paper but it happened locally here in
Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera. This story is stranger that fate. Until they saw the
man the locals couldn’t believe the bizarre story. A local tarpum bay woman went to have her baby at the
princess Margaret hospital thirty years ago. Unbeknown to her she had identical
twins. The nurse attending the woman and delivering the baby had another
friend of hers in the hospital having a baby at the same time. The nurse was
terrified of telling her friend that her baby had died in child birth so she
separated the twins and gave one to her friend who’s baby had died. In the
maintime she told the lady from Tarpum Bay that her baby was healthy and fine
and since she was happy with that and did not know she had identical twins
both women went home happy thirty years ago. Later the nurse was dying and she confessed her story to
her friend to whom she had given the stolen baby to. The woman while she was
dying told her thirty year old son that he was not her son but that he had an
identical brother living in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas. The lad couldn’t
believe it but he was sure of it once he met his twin brother and the two
began to talk to each other. In the past during the thirty years people from
Tarpum Bay would see the twin and take him for his brother. They would bring
back stories of seeing a man looking like the boy dad da. Stories
occasionally rose up that they had family or people looking like them
elsewhere but they didn’t know for sure. The knew for sure after the dying
woman told her adapted son to go now and look for his rightful family in
Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera and become a part of them now. Now the boy is home this
weekend on the island and they are holding a big celebration for his return
to the family. The whole village is exploding with joy now that this new baby
has found his way home. Fishing report. Sports fishing continues to grow in popularity and many
people are becoming aware of where to go and how to do it. Come to Tarpum Bay
if you want to go sports fishing. We have a bay full of bone fish and during
the bone fishing season from March to October you can find thousands of bone
fish in the harbor of Tarpum Bay where you can fish them for free. The locals
take the bone fish home and make a meal of them. However the guests are
expected to deliver the fish back to the sea. We don’t want to play with losing our bone fishing
industry here. Remember you can do all the bone fishing you want in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas for
free. You don’t need a boat or a fishing guide. Just wade into the water
waist high with your rod and catch em all day. It’s a delightful way to spend
a fishing vacation or a little something extra to do on your vacation so if
you coming down to Tarpum Bay for a visit bring your fly catcher and fish for
bone fish right in the water front harbor for free. Can you believe that? Its
true. See you there. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera Bahamas tomorrow. Back to top of the page Back to home/start
page Saturday, 08 February 2003 Weather An absolutely fabulous weather day in Eleuthera. The
skies are bright with occasional scattered clouds and a low chance of rain.
This weather is expected to last for the next few days. Its an excellent day
for the outdoors and for tanning and beach activity. Enjoy our weather today.
News Prime minister of the Bahamas, Perry Christie was on
Eleuthera yesterday. He was on a tour of the property purchased and put aside
for a very large development for the island of Eleuthera by the Promolont.com
group of developers. The priminister also took the time to visit the island
school yesterday and made a great impact to the residents of Eleuthera. We
appreciate the interest taken in our further economic development. Happy
Bday to Clay Samis, one of our Canadian visitors here in Tarpum Bay. Fishing
report The weather is great for fishing and our favorite fun fishing activity is bone fishing. When the weather is good and the climate right the bonefish crowd the harbor just in front of Tarpum Bay. The fish make an excellent target for fishermen who love the challenge of catching sports fish. The fish are usually caught and thrown right back into the water, however some locals enjoy the flavor and take the bonefish for eating. The fish is filled with fine bones with make eating it very difficult. If you are a sports fisherman and are looking for fun fishing activity visit Tarpum Bay today and bring your sports fishing rods and special flies for bone fishing. They love something silver and shiny. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow. bright and partially clear with occasional scattered clouds. It was a great
day for the outdoors or a beautiful sun tan. This weather is expected to last
for the next few days so get down to Eleuthera to experience the great
weather and people of the the island. News The annual Haynes library valentines dance for February 8th
was cancelled due to slow ticket sales. The economy of Eleuthera has an
effect even on Valentines as the income levels of native Eleutherians has
dropped significantly over the past few years. The annual February 14th
dance at Workers house will still be held and it is expected that the patrons
of the library and its functions will attend this event to support Workers
house. In other news the Bohengi hydro boat has cancelled all
trips to Eleuthera because of the need to replace an engine. The ferry is expected
to restart its regular routes once repairs are effected. A call goes out to all lovers of the game scrabble are
called out to attend the weekly social coffee meetings on Tuesdays at the
Haynes library. A record number of scrabble games were reported to be used at
the past Tuesdays meeting of the Haynes Library coffee group. Apparently
there were four games of scrabble going on at one time. This is a record for
the scrabble players playing on Tuesday morning. All scrabble players are
invited to attend each Tuesday morning beginning at 10 AM in the morning. It
promises to be a great event each week. Scrabble is a creative, interesting
word game enjoyed by many people in the world. It is not a tough game to play
but proves to be most interesting. In another report a loud Hip Hip hooray goes out to our
Canadian friends from the north. Right now in our community of Tarpum Bay and
other settlements along the island there are a number of Canadian visitors
taking advantage of the beautiful weather and wonderful people of the island
of Eleuthera. One such visitor is Mary and her husband from the North Eastern
area of Canada. Much thanks and good wishes goes out to our Canadian friends
from the north who annually visit our community here along the island of
Eleuthera. Hip Hip Horray!!! A loud applause for our Canadian friends. Hip
Hip Hip Hooray to our Canadian friends from the north. Fishing report As the weather improves and the seas calm more andn more
fishermen from the island of Eleuthera set out to sea daily to support their
families through the daily sale of Grouper, lobster and fresh pan frying
fish. Much appreciation goes out to our brave Eleutherian fishermen today
because of their bravery in facing the dangers of daily fishing in Eleuthera.
Compressor use is on the rise, we all know the dangers of that. As well as
the many dangerous fish including the many sharks in our waters around
Eleuthera. Some sharks as long as fourteen feet have been seen and discussed
by the local fishermen. They are so brave. So come on down to the fish market
at the waterfront at Tarpum Bay daily to support our local fishermen. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow. Back to top of page Back to
home/start page Tuesday, 04 February 2003 Weather Superb weather today in Eleuthera. The temperature rose
today to 80 degrees farenheit. There was sunshine all day. The sky was bright
with only occasional cloud cover. There was little chance of rain today.
Tomorrow is expected to be the same. It was a great day for a lying out and
getting a tan and a generally great day for outdoor activities. News Two major events happen on Tuesdays in Eleuthera. First
is the weekly coming of the mailboat from Nassau. The mailboats bring all
consumable goods to Eleuthera weekly from Nassau. The two mailboats that come
to Eleuthera are the daybreak and the Eleuthera Express. The other significant event is the weekly coffee social
at the Haynes library in Governors Harbor. The Haynes Library is a well
appointed facility with all of the servies including fourteen
computer/internet terminals. Guests visiting Eleuthera can keep up with their
email and other internet activity at the Haynes library in Governors Harbor
and the library in Harbor Island. Both offer great reading services and
internet activity. Fishing Report If you enjoy fresh fish products the fish market in
Tarpum Bay every afternoon of good fishing weather is for you. You can find
Nassau grouper, lobster, conch and other varieties of seafood at the fish
market front on the waterfront in Tarpum Bay. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow Back to top of page Back to
home/start page Monday, 03 February 2003 Weather An average temperature of 76 degrees was ours today in
Eleuthera. It was another wonderful day. There was a low chance of rain and clear
blue skies with little cloud cover. It was a wonderful day for a suntan or
other outdoor activities. News Since there was not much in terms of news occurring
today. I present to you a poem. Our friend
Steve is leaving the island tomorrow. This poem was written for a woman but
some of it may apply to our friend Steve as well. Steve glean as you may,
with caution.. Curly topped, red eyes Love light and fleeting
sometimes comes our way so wild and delicious it
promises to stay full of gay moments, lofty
and true full of excitement, if
only you knew so smooth as the ocean and sweet summer breeze as calm as a melody we
only could sing remember this promise made
not in vain I'll look at your memories
and see you again I promise to be wholesome,
promise to be true you bet I'm dissapointed
but still missing you I hope your all better and
filled with delight things will get better and
you'll be alright with all this location
will always be here for your introspection,
its all very clear and when you feel lonely
and sometimes feel blue you just always remember
theres a place here for you. Fishing
report Fishing has resumed at the fish market here in Tarpum Bay daily. Lots of varieties of fish products on the market in the afternoon. Or you can purchase frozen fish from the homes of the various fishermen in the evenings or mornings. More news from Tarpum bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow Back to top of page Back to home/start page Saturday, 01 February 2003 Weather Another cool 76 degree day here in Eleuthera. The day was
bright and sunny with little chance of rain and only occasional scattered
clouds. What nice weather that is when you can catch a cool tan or just lay
out in the sun and enjoy the mild temperature. It was a great day for the
outdoors. News Eleuthera baseball and softball got off again on the good
foot today. The Tarpum Bay girls played two games at the fair grounds in Rock
Sound. While the Palmetto Point and
Savannah Sound base ball teams squared off in a fun day of play against each
other. In Rock Sound during the softball game a fair in aid of
Theola Halls son was held. The lad has cancer and has been given a clean bill
of health after a successful cancer operation to remove a tumour from his
chest. That news is good news. Eleutherians woke to the tragedy of the accident
experienced by America and the space shuttle this morning and it hit close to
home. From our vantage point on clear days when the weather is good we can
often see the trails of smoke in the sky after a shuttle mission takes off
from Cape Canaveral Florida. Some locals try to keep up with the schedule of
space shuttle take offs and watch from our gazebo or the dock as the flights
make their way across the Bahamian sky and on into outer space. So the
tradgedy of loosing another space shuttle lies closer to our hearts. We pray
for the families and for the return of the space shuttle to the skies. We
must lift ourselves up and go on. Fishing report Fishing continues in Tarpum Bay at the local fish market
daily. Our friend from Chicago, Steve is having a great time fishing
as he does daily with his friends, Rollins, Jack and Phillip. The crew have
been out trolling the ocean and catching a significant amount of Grouper,
mackerel and Barracuda which is given away to friends and acquaintances.
Fresh, fried Barracuda is a favorite food for many Bahamians. The taste and
texture of fresh fried barracuda is a special one. Although one has to take
the chance of being poisoned occasionally by a bad barracuda. The chance is
taken gladly by many and creates an atmosphere for many jokes and teasing
among the local people who partake or not from this fried barracuda eating
ritual here. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow Back to top of page Back to
home/start page Friday, 31 January 2003 Weather This was another fine day of weather in Eleuthera. The
temperature today stood at 76 degrees farenheit with a slight breeze over the
island. Another coldfront has been called for so probably by Sunday the wind
will increase and the temperature might drop into the low to mid sixties
again. The skies were sunny all day with a low chance of rain. Only
occasional scattered clouds were evident today. News This is the beginning of the month of February. Stores
and gift shops will be promoting Valentines products and the sale of
Valentine baskets will begin. Several events take place this month in
Eleuthera. First of these is the annual Valentines dance at Workers house by
the friends of the library group association. Then on February 14th
The Ministry of Health’s Food Fair Parish Hall Governors Harbor. Then in
March, the friends of the library hold their annual silent auction at the
Haynes Library in Governors harbor. A new gospel group based in Palmetto Point have shot
their first musical video which will be shown nationwide over the local
national television station. The gospel group called Songs of praise have
also just released a new gospel album which should be available in the stores
in Eleuthera and the Bahamas shortly. Look for this release at your local
record store as it is an international release. One of our international friends has returned to Tarpum
Bay after a two year break from the local community. Steve is down in the
islands on vacation and doing quite an amount of fishing in the waters on the
southern end of the island. We would like to let Steve know that his presence
is greatly appreciated and he brings his brand of humor and excitement to
this small community in Tarpum Bay where he has many friends and colleagues. Fishing Report As winter wears on one of the things that one cannot help
from seeing in our local community is the battle fought by local fishermen
when they brave the cold winter waters fishing daily along the island. With
the slight wind chill factor fishing becomes a cold job in the local
community. Couple this with the many challenges and fears, like the presence
of sharks in the waters and the dangers they face from the use of Compressor
equipment and other dangers one cannot but applaud these few brave men for
their tenacity to supply the local market with fish products. This year has
been a good winter season which goes on until easter. The amounts of fish and
the income of the local fishermen has increased this year because of their
timing in catching up with the schools of spawning grouper this year. While
this is a controversial subject local fishermen continue to fish as much as
they can to keep their families and households going in extremely hard times
here in South Eleuthera. We are all hoping for improved economic times in the
area of South Eleuthera. Right now all economic progress hinges on the
project going on at Jacks Bay. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow. Back to top of page Back to
home/start page Thursday, 30 January 2003 Weather Excellent weather in Eleuthera today, a temperate 75
degrees farenheit. A cold front was called for the area but it was a mild one
with a minimum temperature effect and only a slight increase in the wind. The
skies were clear today. The sun was out and there was only a 30% chance of
rain. It was a beautiful day for the beach and a wonderful day for outdoors. News Another wonderful day in Eleuthera today. All went as
usual and Eleuthera was nice and quiet. No significant news events today. Fishing Report Fishing has resumed in Tarpum Bay as the weather has begun
to improve. Come to Tarpum Bay daily in the afternoon to purchase your
quantities of fresh fish products from the docks at the waterfront. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow. Back to top of page Back to
home/start page Wednesday, 29 January 2003 Weather Another cool gorgeous day in Eleuthera today. The
temperature was around 75degrees farenheit with a 5 knot breeze across the
landscape. The sun was out and shining. There was a low chance of rain today.
It was a great day for the outdoors and a great day for a cool tan. News Eleuthera may soon have a new hotel. Official sources
tell us that the Jacks Bay project is ongoing. The company developing the
project just spent another $89,000.00 for an aerial survey of the property to
a US firm. Sources say this is the second major contract of its kind for the
project and as the source said,”If they are spending this kind of money still
on the project they must mean business.” So we in Eleuthera look forward to
seeing the continued development of the new site and await the hope of new
jobs and new people in the south Eleuthera area. Watch for an update of our annual Eleuthera homecoming
and holiday events schedule coming to this website in the near future. Fishing Report Fishing continues in Eleuthera as the weather is
beginning to warm allowing the fishermen back into the frigid waters
surrounding the island of Eleuthera. Come to Tarpum Bay daily for the fish market where you can purchase
your quantity of fresh fish products. More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera Bahamas tomorrow. Back to top of page Back to
home/start page Monday, 27 January 2003 Weather Today our weather in Eleuthera seems to be promising us
another nice sunny day with some occasional coludidness and a chance of rain.
The sun is out. The skies are partially overcast in the east and there is
about a 40% chance of rain today. Otherwise its going to be a great day for the outdoors
and a wonderful time for the beach. News Two birthdays of significant notice on Eleuthera this
weekend. Both celebrated at church and had parties and both are long term
members of the Eleuthera community. Mrs. Agnes Young turned 90 this Tuesday
and Mrs. Emma Cooper turned eighty this past week. Both celebrated in grand
style and thanked God and man for their long years on our lovely planet. A car accident in Tarpum Bay left one man from the island
of Eleuthera with minor damages. The man hit a lamp pole just inside the
settlement near Ann and Toni’s house while passing through the settlement on
Sunday Afternoon. Baymen came to the mans rescue and took him to the local
clinic where he was treated and released with only a few superficial wounds. Fishing Report Today the warmer weather and calm seas are the ideal
situation for the fishermen to harvest their fresh sea food from the still
cold waters around the island. The Nassau grouper has completed its annual
schooling and spawning activity now so it appears that there are no longer
the quantities of the grouper fish available as they were a few weeks ago for
the slaughter. They may be no longer available by the truck load but still
available in smaller groups and schools. So come on down to Tarpum Bay this
afternoon to purchase your quantities of fresh fish and other seafood. More news from Tarpum, Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas. Back to top of page Back to
