Weather

Boy what beautiful weather today. The sun is out. The temperature is around 80 degrees farenheit and the air is cool in pockets. There is a slight chance of rain and a great day for the outdoors. It is truly a wonderful day to be here in this place, Eleuthera.

News

What a wonderful time was had by all at the annual Hayne library fair. The fair took place from 10am to 4pm during which time tons of Bahamian locals and the winter residents and winter tourists walked around the grounds to the various stalls and bought the arts and crafts handiwork from the large number of local vendors of collectable artifacts which they offer for sale. The entire experience was rich. Food was served by the local Governors Harbor public school board who were raising funds for their school activities. The time went so fast as a great time was had by all the entire day. Everything from autographed locally authored books to hand crafted message boards and calabashes offered by the Eleuthera Arts and crafts guild. The guild and other vendors made money from the venture and were asked to offer a donation to the Haynes library for their participation and set up. Its was a grand stylish affair where live music was played including authentic steel pan music and an authentic Scottish bagpipes. What a wonderful day on Eleuthera this past Saturday in lovely Governors Harbor, Eleuthera.

In addition to the Haynes library arts and crafts fair the annual Green Castle homecoming was held. Many patriotic Eleutherians residing in Nassau attended. The hometown Boy, Pyswell Forbes and the total package, Julian Gibson attended and broadcast the event live from Green Castle Eleuthera. The event closes today, a great time was had by all. The theme of the event was,”Growing, upward onward  together.”

Now the concentration on Eleuthera will be the upcoming Jr. Junkanoo festival in Beautiful Tarpumbay, Eleuthera. As many as six of the public schools on Eleuthera will be competing in the parades for prizes according to their level of Dance and design. The event will be a great one this year.

Fishing Report

The coldfronts have subsided for a few days now and the fishermen are getting back in the colder water in order to supply the island with fish products. So come on down to Tarpum Bay any day during these calm seas to purchase fish products from the fish market at Tarpum Bay.

Weather

What a beautiful day in Eleuthera today. The sun was out and shining and the temperature was a temperate 78 degrees. The skies were all clear with occasional cloudiness and the breeze was fantastic flowing from one shore to the next at 20 knots. It was a beautiful day for an island wide tour of the beaches or an outdoor picnic or just lying on the beach. One could not help but give thanks to our heavenly father for the day.

News

One thing about the Bahamas is that everyone loves and knows how to celebrate. Although Thanksgiving is not a Bahamian holiday the day is commerated by all Bahamians. It’s another day to celebrate and have some ham, turkey and other thanksgiving day treats. Most restaurants have a Thanksgiving menu along with the usual Bahamian menu.

In lowerBouge there is a fantastic resturant called the Purple May because primarily the owner loves the color purple and the building is painted and trimmed with bright purple colors. Now this place is in an open lot off of the main highway and there is no sign right now  so you have to look over well to the left to notice it. For several times now on travels I have stopped off at the resturant while on a north Eleuthera tour and had wonderful full lunches for low prices. I think it is the best value of any resturant on Eleuthera and the food is superbly prepared by the owners wife Rose. She does a wonderful job serving her guests and gives them great value for money not to mention her great smile and personality. It’s a great dining experience and I encourage anyone wishing to find an old favorite in a resturant to visit around noon, The Purple May in Beautiful Lower Bouge Eleuthera. Just ask someone where to find the place if you cannot locate it. I’m sure you’ll have a great dining experience.

One of the wonderful things about Eleuthea this time of year is the decorations on the lawns and the houses of the residents this time of year. A tour up the island in any direction just to see what the people are doing for Christmas and Thanksgiving is worth the trip. Just purchase a beach location book or map from the Island Made shop in Gregory Town and your on your way for a full day of touring our lively island. So don’t forget these few places I have mentioned in your travels and tell them that www.tarpumbay.com sent you to see their wonderful facilities and enjoy their surroundings.

Fishing Report

Well the seas are not in great shape as yet in order for the fishing boats to go out and catch a full days catch from the waters however on days like today, calmer days some of the fishermen are going out on what we call the North Side of the seas and are catching some Grouper and lobster. They have started fishing again and are only waiting for the seas to subside fully before exploring the Caarribean side, which carries most of the accessible fishing grounds. So come on down to Tarpum Bay any afternoon when the seas are calm and purchase some Grouper or lobster for your dining pleasure and what a pleasure you will have. Not to mention the experience dealing with and seeing the fishermen work their craft at preparing the fresh fish products.

Weather

Finally some rain in Eleuthera, For the most of the year we have been in a drought and now its beginning to rain several times a week here in this the winter season. The threat of  hurricanes has passed us and most peope think for this year we have a lot to be thankful for in that regard. The temperature s a warm 84 degrees farenheit with a 65% chance of rain. During the night large pockets of rain hit the central Eleuthera and left many road puddles this morning so careful driving on the wet roads. Its still a great day for the outdoors  one can always plan around the only assign occasional showers.

News

Featured in our news today is the annual homecoming event in beautiful Green Castle Eleuthera.  There will be a whole weekend of splendid entertainment for the kids and for Adults. Things like the bouncing castle along with many of our nearly forgotten native games and an array of wonderful home cooked meals and drinks will be available for sale. The event began on Monday November 25th and will be officially opened with a homecoming church service at the Catholic church in Green Castle Eleuthera on Thursday November 28th. Live and recorded music will be played and an exciting weekend of live radio coverage will be broadcast over the entire Bahamas, the Caribbean and South Florida. Well its that time of year again. Thanksgiving  is upon us. The local primary school at Tarpum Bay will be holding their annual dinner sale at the school on Thursday the 28th day of November when Thankgiving is celebrated globally in unison with the United States. This morning the Thanks giving season kicked off with a celebratory Thanksgiving dinner in honor of the weekly Haynes library book club and social group. All attendees brought along with them a prepared thanksgiving dish. That made the entire event a pleasing one. There was so much in the way of native thanksgiving dishes like pumkin pie, deep fried chicken, sweet yam cassarole, macaroni and cheese, island style, turkey stuffing, and a plethora of other delightful dishes sponsored by the attendees of the library.

Tomorrow on Wednesday the Eleuthera arts and Crafts guild meets in the Banks road area in Palmetto point. The guild is preparing for the annual Haynes library thanksgiving all day fair where vendors and friends of the library are encouraged to sell their craft work to the general populous of the island including the homeowners and winter residents. So come on down and enjoy the day at Haynes Library where your contributions to the affair will make a large difference in the lives of the many library patrons during the year. Just your presence means much to the library’s agenda.

As many of you know as well the colourful, festive Christmas season has begun and there is more and more emphasis being placed on our annual junkanoo/Christmas celebration ceremonies. The boys and girls are in the junkanoo shacks right now preparing for the Junior junkanoo parades in Tarpum Bay on the 14th of December. On the other hand the senior junkanoo groups are also in the junkanoo shacks prepring for their chrismas morning debut into the annual junkanoo arena.Nassau will ave the most splendid event in Junkanoo this and every year but our Christmas junkanoo will approach at least the excellence in junkanoo we Bahamians have come to love and admire. So put Christmas day on your calendar for Christmas junkanoo on December the 14th and December the 25th.

Fishing report

The fishing industry in Tarpum Bay, Elkeuthera has been put on hold for a few days until the rough cold front laden seas subside. The waters are much too dangerous and muddy for the fishermen to risk themselves in these days. As soon as the weather is better the fishermen will resume their fishing careers and provide an abundance of fresh fish daily for all to enjoy. So keep an eye on the weather and as soon s the seas subside come on down to Tarpum Bay daily for your supply of fresh fish products.

Weather

Partially overcast with a 60%chance of rain. Quite a cool day with a high of just 77 degrees faren heit. The wind was blowing along over the island at about 25knots. The coolness is a great break and contrast from the heat of summer. Its fabulous weather nice and cool. It’s a great day as well for the outdoors. Nice temperate weather.

News

Mr. David Morley, who nearly lost his fingers in a carpentry saw accident is back home after successfully having surgery to his fingers. Reports say that he will be fine after having surgery at Doctors Hospital in Nassau. It is expected that after a few months he should be back to work at his many job details. Like most Eleutherians Mr. Morley is self employed and has several different businesses which he runs by himself. In order to make it here in our little economy one has to diversify and do as many things necessary to suppliment the income. It’s a great thing to be self dependent and make it once the economy is going  well enough to sustain you.

There are rumors that Joseph Cay, which is a part of Winding bay will be cleared and poised in a few months for development of a hotel property. Many hearing this rumor still don’t believe the rumor since they have not seen any movement in the area recently. We’ll have to see if the rumors are true. The Cay has an excellent beach and is a very private area for development. Acess to Joshph Cay will have to be put into place since the isolated island is totally surrounded with sand only. Lets hope that these rumors are true.

Fishing Report.

Daily fishing will resume later in the week when the waters settle from the cold front which brings in much wind and stormy seas. The daily fish market will resume as soon as the weather allows.

Weather

Nice weather this morning. The sun is out and shining after some early moning rain and things are just beautiful as far as the weather. The temperature is around 83 degrees alreay this morning and is expected to climb up to around 89 degrees by three O, clock this after noon. There is  slight breeze across the landscape. It’s a beautiful for outdoor fishing and other outdoor activities.

News

A sad not to report this morning. A man in the Tarpum Bay community nearly lost his fingers yesterdy. The man fortytwo year old David Morley who is a fine finished carpenter here in our little village was workind with his band saw yesterday when he made a simple mistake and moved in the wrong direction with the band saw and nearly lost four of his fingers. He has been flown to Nassau for further medical attention. Let us hope that he will be OK. Time is of the essence in such cases involving the nerve tissue in the phalanges so getting to the surgery room was an immediate issue in the case.

Let us hope that Mr. Morley has a full and speedy recovery so that he can once again get back to his fine carpentry work. Mr. Morley is an expatriate Eleutherian who relocated back to the island, his homeland, in 1993 after serving in a career oriented service for many years with the Bahamas defence force. He was trained as a Soldier in the British navy for several years before returning to Nassau to serve in a high level position with the Bahamas defense force. Our prayers today are with you Mr. Morley and your family in your recovery.

Fishing Report

Our weather is now settled from the Cold Front which occurred last week here on the island. The fisher men returned to the waters yesterday in order to have fish products to sell during the early afternoon daily fish market. As long as the weather is good fish products are available daily in Tarpum Bay. Tarpum Bay is the fishing capitol of the island of Eleuthera after Spanish wells and Harbor island. There are as many as fifty fishermen involved in the fishing industry here in Tarpum Bay daily.

Thanksgiving although not an official holiday for the Bahamas is still celebrated by groups of people familiear with the American holiday. The local primary school holds a fund raiser on that day where they sell thanksgiving dinners and raise money for a worthy cause in the school system. These dinners consists of the traditional ham and turkey menu of the thanksgiving dinner.

Christmas is also in the air and on the minds of many Bahamians. Some of the stores have already put up their annual traditional Christmas decorations this year. Some of the local homes have begun to hang Christmas lights and get ready early for the grand Christmas holiday. Our junior and senior Junkanoo events in Tarpum Bay this year will make the season an exciting one for many of our visitors. If your in Eleuthera for Christmas do attend the Tarpum Bay Junior junkanoo parade on December 14th and the senior Junkanoo parade on Christmas morning right here in Tarpum Bay.

Fishing report

For the past day fishermen have been able to return to the waters in order to catch their share of the fish products  for sale in the fish market. The weather has been hampered lately by the incoming flurry of cold fronts coming from North America over our area. Once the cold fronts have subsided fishermen can then return to the settled seas to continue their fishing adventure. Fish is a large part of the out island diet with items like fried fish and cracked conch leading the favorites food llist in the island.

Weather

Todays weather is nice and cool. A cold front touched down on Freday leaving muddy, stormy seas. However as a contrast to summer that cool spell is very nice and enjoyed by the major portion of islanders. The skies are partially overcast, there is a forty percent chance of rain today. It’s a great day for the outdoors and the winds are calm.

News

The PLP held a fair Friday night at the park in TarpumBay. Members of the party said that such weekend fairs for the party are held in order for the PLP to send candidates to their annual convention which is being held in the capitol city of Nassau beginning Sunday, yesterday. The party is gripped with unexpected overhead cost for such events and are saying that there is no money for such appropriations. Otherwise in the Eleuthera /Bahamian economy the same cry that there is no money to boost the economy into something productive can be heard as well.  When will the petty fuss end and government get onto establishing legitamite enterprise for the people of Eleuthera and like island economies which are in shambles.

Fishig Report

The cold fron which touched down Friday has left rough, muddy seas which are non navigable by local fishermen. Since the seas are muddy there is no way to see how to work the seas through the rough, muddy waters. Fishing will resume once the roughness and the muddiness subsides.

Weather

Cooler sunny weather in Eleuthera since the cold front touched down last evening bring with it cold winds during the night and lots of breeze to stir up the seas. Its wonderful cloudy weather with a low chance of rain. The breeze is blowing from coast to coast at about twenty knots. It’s a great day for sunbathing outdoors and for beach activities.

News

An appearant drowning accident occurring in the capitol city of Nassau. An Eleuthera man from Green Castle slips into the cold chilly waters of Nassau harbor in an incident that took place last evening. The mans body was recovered from the waters of Nassau harbor earlier today. The man drowned as he might have had a seizure at the time of the incident. The man, an Eleuthera native, was aboard a barge transporting goods from Nassau to Eleuthera. He was only along for the ride when the incident occurred. Police are investigating the matter.

The day in Eleuthera today was another quiet one. Nothing besides the drowning of the Eleuthera native  occurred. People went to work and did the things they should do to secure their living and anything else that matteres however there was very little otherwise news worthy. These are called uneventful days and occur in much of the island life here on Eleuthera.

Eleuthera is so laid back and free that the best news somedays is that there is no news at all. We are awaiting the arrival of our friends coming for Christmas. The christmas season here  in Tarpum Bay will be a quiet one this year. There will be festivities however they will not be grand and overwhelming like other years here in Tarpum Bay. All we can expect is a moderate holiday this year. The junkanoon shacks aren’t even crowded with young creative minds yet this year. It seems that Junkanoo may take a back seat this year.

Fishing Report

Another coldfront is upon us. The weather is the usual winter cold and the waters are cool and stormy making it impossible for fishermen to make it out on the seas. So once again due to mother nature fishing has been suspended here in Tarpum Bay. When the weather subsides and the seas are clear again fishing and the daily fish market here in Tarpum Bay will reside again at the seashore. In the maintime fishermen rest and take care of other obligations and jobs they have to do on the island.

Cold fronts make bad miserable days as winter this year churns along slowly but surely towards the Christmas holidays.

November 09th was declared locally, “Back Hill day.” In a speech Mr. Samuel Johnson, also known as Sam Jip declared the naming of the annual day which commerates among other things which involve the Back Hill community, the death of his dear wife Caroline Johnson said to be the step sister  of world famous actor Sidney Potier. Mrs. Caroline, like Sidney Poitier descended from Cat Island before marrying and moving to Eleuthera in the early nineteen hundreds.

The first annual Back Hill day drew a crowd of Tarpum Bay well wishers who shared in the food, drinks and festivities. Among the strengths of the Johnson family residing in the Back Hill area there is a thick Junkanoo culture. The Johnsons make up one of the two Junkanoo groups here in Tarpum Bay. Live Junkanoo music is a staple of the back hill gang and they can douse it out and share it very well with the public. The group comprised of mainly family members is some fifty members strong, giving you the extensive nature of the Johnson family. Family members travelled to Tarpum Bay for the special family event from as far away as Sanford and Tampa Florida. Many of the family members at the event also travelled from Nassau  to enjoy and contribute to the event. The unofficial holiday will be held in Tarpum Bay on Back hill now annually on the 09th of November each year. The holiday will commerate both the unity of the Johnson family as well as the passing of their Matriarch Mrs. Caroline Johnson. Also speaking at the event was Mr. Henry Kinky Allen, a close associate of the patriarch of the family, Mr. Samuel Johnson.

Fishing Report

Due to a change in the weather and the lessening of the Cold front the waters around the island are now ready for fishing again. The waters are clear today and fishermen are out as we speak gathering fish products for the daily Tarpum Bay, Fish market. So if your in Eleuthera there will be fish at the market here in Tarpum Bay, This afternoon. See you there.

Weather

Todays weather is cool. There is a cold front setting in for a few days. This time of year the temperature drops a few degrees the mid eighties daily and down into the mid seventies during the night. This is the cold and flu season where nightly the night draft has a bad effect on most islanders. Its best to wear a cap and basic warm clothing when venturing out at night. The draft can get pretty heavy in this humid climate. Other than that the days are great once it does not rain. It’s a great time to spend time on the beaches during the warm days and careful attention to dress during the dense dewey evenings.

News

Tonight Windermere Highschool is hosting their annual Thanksgiving dinner where all islanders and other patrons are invited to attend. The affair is usually a lavish time of fun and celebration of the island thanksgiving. Funds in the way of pledges and gifts of money are usually at the heart of the celebration dinner but secondary. Many islanders and parents of past students attend the event. The warm hospitality of the Windermere Missionary staff is at its best and usually it is a splendid affair where great cooking and an evening of Christian entertainment are the courses of the evening.

Windermere High School is located top of the hill in Savanna Sound, Eleuthera. The school is a boarding school which has been in operation since 1967 when it first opened to only a hand full of students from various settlements all along the island. Students came to board during the week from Settlements from as far away as Whyms Bight and Current in the North. To date the school can boast of the achievements of many alumni who have had their formitive years attending Windermere High School. Much like the Island school in Cape Eleuthera quite recently the school seeks to give its students early skills and an education which will carry them through life with a firm grasp of the fundamentals of a higher education and a firm belief in Jesus Christ our Saviour. Windermere Highschool has given many Eleutherians to date a wonderful grounding in the principles of living a wonderful fruitful life. Windermere Highschool from its inception in 67 taught many of its students the importance of living a well rounded life while getting a first grade education.

Weather

Today in Tarpum Bay, the weather is in the mid eighties with a slight breeze over the landscape. There is a slight chance of rain, the skies are open and clear. It’s a great day for the outdoors.

News

In Tarpum Bay today there is a new addition to the existing exciting restaurants in the settlement with the reopening of the Fish house in the Bay Front Building where Shine’s Fish house was housed. The manager is Mr. Roosevelt Hunt and Mr. Freeman Johnson, a teacher at the Rock Sound Highschool. What a delightful menu the new resturant has. Like the older restaurant you can get anything you wish in native Bahamian seafood. Conch fritters, conch Salad, regular salad, Hamburgers, fish fingers, grouper fingers, crack conch are but a few items on the menu at Shines Seafood. The food on the menu, the seafood is caught daily by Shine himself so you are assured a fresh tasty meal anytime you din at Shines Seafood. Other dinner drinks and snacks are available as well. So if your in Eleuthera and wish to try some fresh new cuisine stop by the parking lot adjacent to the local administration building in waterfront Tarpum Bay and have a wonderfully prepared seafood dinner or other snacks available for your dining pleasure.

Remember that December 14th is going to be the day our annual Junior Junkanoo parade is being held both nationally and in Tarpum Bay again this year. The Junior Junkanoo parade has spread to the Out Islands from Nassau, the capitol of the country since its inception some ten years ago in Nassau. Tarpum Bay is the first to host the event, largely because other public schools refuse to participate and prepare costumes for the event. For the second year now participants in Tarpum Bay have made good on their promise to keep the event a lively, exciting one where local residents will see their uniqueness and creativity. Many of the costumes are prepared by the parents and other junkanoo friends in the community of Tarpum Bay. The regular junkanoo groups are preparing for the senior junkanoo parade as well so this leaves the bulk of the responsibility on the shoulders of the teachers and the parents of the students to get involved in the process.

Some of  or friends are in town this month. Some of our expatriate Chicagoians are in town for a little Ran R. We are quite happy to see their smiling faces as well as happy to know that they choose Tarpum Bay over the remainder of the island. They visit around Christmas time every year but since building their brand new house here they are able to spend more time here in the company of their friends and native families. This time of the year when the atmosphere is awaiting Christmas and everyone is in a merry mood its great to have friends like them around for light conversations and good humor. Some of you readers will know who they are. Hehe

Fishing report

Due to the incoming of another cold front fishing is again suspended until mother nature decides to calm the seas. Free beautiful conch shells at the dock for anyone wishing to have a wonderful, free momento of their trip to Eleuthera. Come on down and collect some today.

Weather

This morning the temperature in Eleuthera is 85 degrees. The sun is warm and shiny in the partially clear blue skies. There is a 40% chance of occasional showers later this afternoon. The wind is 3 miles per hour out of the NNE. So it is calm on the island with little breeze. These are favourable conditions for all outdoor activities including picnicking on the beach and fishing.

News

Guy Fawkes is the big story in Eleuthera today. There was a gathering of the community of Tarpum Bay at the Bayfront park otherwise called Misquito park. Around ten contestants entered effigies of the Guy Fawkes for judging. Doolan Mc Cartney won best guy with his entry, Ben Ladin. The effigies were burned at the stake, like the real historic guy was in the 1,500’s in British history. The rememberance of the holiday of guy fawkes is a representation of our English Colonial, commonwealth background but it is something more. The British actually celebrate this Guy Fawkes day which depicts their victory over the hate and disasterous consequences should the real Guy Fawkes had succeeded in blowing up the English Parliament as he was caught in the act of doing. Guy Fawkes was arrested along with some of his men. They were punished by being burned at the stake in a commuity gathering for the event back in the 1500’s. So to celebrate that victory the British named November 05th each year in the British Empire Guy Fawkes day. Our celebration is a community oriented one where everyone comes out to the beach or the park and has eats and drinks, listening to music until Midnight when the Guy Fawkes is burned at the stake to the sound of rhythmic junkanoo music and dancing. The event is an entire evening out in hopes of seein the effigies of guy fawkes burned at the stake in a large community bonfire. It’s a fun entertaining event.

Fishing Report

Our fishermen  now have the weather they were waiting on for fishing. The cold front has subsided and the weather is back to being natural and nice for this time of year. The Caribbean seas are very calm and the temperature cooler and more mild than summer. You can purchase your fish products from the daily fish market in Tarpum Bay today and every good weather day at the big dock in the center of town on the waterfront. The fish products to be has is a variety of frying fish, The Nassau grouper, various species of lobster, Conch, fresh sea Crabs, and good fish stories.

Weather

What a beautiful day of weather we’re having here. The sun is out and shining in the clear open skies and people are out driving around seeing the sites that are on the island. The temperature for today is a cool 85 degrees. The cold front is still here and causing a lot of cool breeze to flow across the island. The seashore is breezy and cool. Find a spot in the shade and you’ll probably fall asleep. This is a typical winter day in the Bahamas.

News

What a wonderful time we had this weekend at the Governors Harbor homecoming event this past weekend. There were many of people who wished to be there but couldn’t make it. This letter I wrote to a friend today just about sums it up.

Hi friend,

how are you? I had such a wonderful time in Governors harbor. I drank quite a bit and got tipsy and met so many friends there. Sonia, Tanya, Christal, Chris and spider, Manuel from guyana, I think thats his name, a host of local friends from Eleuthera and really enjoyed the event. I wasn't as lively as home comings can get but a great time was had by all.

The music went on until late into the night and the express band played live music. They had everything in the offering there from food to sculpture and the throwing rings and everything. I'm glad I didn't miss it. I however missed Bessy's birthday party the night before for which I am so sorry because they had such a wonderful time there in Palmetto Point I am told.

All the best for now,

Hear from you soon.

Fishing Report

Fishing is suspended today again because of the beautiful cold front weather. The seas are muddy with little visibility. For the next several days I have a feeling that the cold front will hold on the seas. In several days all this should clear up and the fishing and daily fish market will be back in full operation.

Weather

Rainy and cool in Eleuthera today. Due to a travelling cold front conditions were wet and cool today. This is expected to last for the next few days until the front is over. A water spout/mini tornado was spotted off  the coast near salt bluff this morning. Legend has it that a water spout can be cut with a knife and fork. Many a islander has tested this bit of folk lore with no success.

News

In the news today an unfortunate accident occurred around 9pm last evening. Our friend from Tarpum Bay, Little EB caught a blow out on his way to meet the Bohengi passenger hydrofoil boat and overturned twice in his truck. The truck was a total loss due to the extensive damage near Palmetto Point last night but our little EB is OK. He suffered only superficial scratches and perhaps a slight blow to the head. He’s back to work at the snack bar today.

Governors Harbors homecoming may be a wet one this year. Unfortunately due to the cold front the homecoming today is rained out. If conditions are more favourable tonight the festivities will carry on. If your in Eleuthera the Governors Harbor homecoming, an annual event, would be a great place to sample some wonderfully prepared Bahamian food and drinks. We look forward to good weather this evening.

Fishing Report

Due to the cold front the fishing on the Caribbean side of the island has suspended until the weather improves. When a cold front occurs the water is usually too rough and muddy for fishermen to both navigate the water and see through to the bottom of the sea. Cold fronts usually suspend fishing in the island for a few days until they pass. Fishermen usually find this time helpful in terms of taking a rest or an opportune time to repair the nets and boat and do other things that they would normally not have the time to do if the weather were good.

Weather

The weather today is  in the mid eighties. There is a 60% chance of rain. The skies are overcast today and some rain this afternoon is expected. So right now it looks like some afternoon rain.

News

The Governors Harbor homecoming festival will run from Thursday night until Sunday evening. Don’t miss it come out and enjoy the food, music, fun and festivities. They’re havning a real great time in Governors Harbor.

The Revival services for  the Methohodist church is coming nearer to an end. Services had been held nightly since the beginning of the week.

Talking about self help. Yesterday the Hunt family led by Dummy and the boys decided that they were going to change things. They set out after fishing yesterday to refurbish the small dock in front of the harbor of Tarpum bay. So with the donation of two bags of cement and two other bags which they bought they worked for a few hours in the evening to resurface the top deck of the dock. Four hours later the dock looked brand new with its new surface. The family has been using the dock facilities here in Tarpum Bay for many of years including the time when their father used the dock for his fish selling and cleaning as well. They were happy that they did the job of  assisting in community development and the town benefited after having a new looking dock. Self help and action, some of what it takes to make a better community.

Fishing report

A regular schedule of fishing will take place today since the weather is permitting. The boys will be out in the water today catching fish for the fish market. If your on Eleuthera and want some awesome fresh fish products drive down to Tarpum Bay and purchase your lot of fish products directly from the docks.
