Weather
Today the skies in Eleuthera are partially overcast with a 50% chance
of rain. The temperature is a calm 85 degrees farenheit with a cool breeze
below 10 knots blowing over the island from shore to shore. The winds of the
coldfront over the last two weeks has subsided and weather conditions are
back to normal as far as the winds and rough seas are concerned. Today for
the past two weeks is the first day that fishermen have been able to successfully
get to go back to their fishing grounds for a catch. Fish has been scarce for
the last two weeks.
News
Rosa Bell Allen of Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera has dies yesterday. She will
be missed by all her friends in the village and beyond.
After some planning the Galaxy resturant and Bar top of the hill Tarpum
Bay, has reopened to the public.
Both FNM and PLP political head quarters have opened in the town of
Tarpum Bay. FNM’s made a stir when
their headquarters building was sabatoged by some vandal spraying it through
the night hours with spray paints and PLP slogans last week. The matter has
been cleaned up and resolved.
Eleuthera is still in the throws of a hard fought political fight
between the two major parties, the PLP and the FNM. The CDR has not shown up
for the rallies and the door to door visiting like the PLP and the FNM major
parties are doing. This will cause the CDR support dearly. People were
sympathetic to the plight of the CDR candidate Mr. Earl Hall but he has not
shown his face in Tarpum Bay during this first half of the race to the
highest political office this area of Eleuthera has to offer.
People are being cautious in the island of Eleuthera right now and not
whole heartedly supporting either party. They are working quietly on the
effort of keeping the political parties guessing the outcome of the
elections. People are mindful of the treatment they have received from both
political parties and are unwilling to open handedly give their support to
either party.
Most people are of the opinion that the FNM will win the national
election and return to government once again. The PLP many hope will win a
larger opposition seating and be able to balance as much as it can the
political arena of the Bahamas. People are mindful of the past of both
political and due to the downfall of the governing FNM are expressing their
wishes that a new party free from corruption and neglect emerge and give the
people of Eleuthera a chance to see their local economy once again rise to
prominence among the other islands of the Bahamas.
In that vain, Exuma, in its billion dollar investment boom has outpaced
the island of Eleuthera. Abaco with its multi-billion dollar development has
also risen to prominence among the favorable islands of the Bahamas.
Eleuthera remains largely unchanged since the 1960’s and is seen to be
a sleeping giant of an economy with dreams of returning to the most developed
island in the Bahamas which it was during the 1960’s and the 70’s. All over
the Bahamas islands are competing through their native sons elected to
government offices for development dollars in order to develop their local
economies into the most fantastic destinations the people both nationally and internationally are
aware of. The more developed the island, the more the local tourism economy
is expected to grow. Tourism is still the major economic environment the local
Eleutherians believe will bring large investment dollars of foreigners to the
shores of the naturally beautiful, lovely island. Eleutherians are both hungry and proud of their former
development which they achieved through the assistance largely of the rich
white investors who adapted the island and saw to it that every corner of the
tourism industry in the island was served. These foreign investors brought
about the first formal infrastructure of the wonderful tourism economy
Eleutherians used to know. Local and national Bahamian individuals and
companies have been unable to duplicate the success of these white foreign investors.
Eleutherians are looking but not finding in the local and national
elections the promises needed to give hope to their dreams of their island once
again returning to its former glory as the most forward and development
minded island and people in the Bahamas. Their prayers for the last thirty
years have been largely unanswered by both divine and national governments.
Eleutherians are stilled filled with the hope that someday the solution to
its dead economy will come along. Who, what, when and where this will be and
how this will happen is another story todays campaigns and political parties
have not answered yet this far into the political campaigns. Because of this
fact our politicians seems to be brutally honest in admitting they don’t have
all the answers or they are blatantly not offering Eleutherians a way out of
the ugly mire of poverty into which we have all been led over the last economicly
declining thirty years.
Fishing
Today is the first decent weather day for fishermen for the last two
weeks. A cold front descended on the Bahama area and settled over the last
two weeks making it impossible for the local fishermen to go out to sea. The
waves and cold weather caused a complete stall in the local fishing industry
since the cold weather started. Since the close of the lobster season this
bad weather spell has settled over our country. The weather is expected to improve
greatly beginning today. The local fish market is filled with orders for
fresh fish and the daily selling of fish will return this afternoon for sure
when our diligent fishermen return from the shallow cool waters of this
portion of the Caribbean.
Fish products can be purchased daily between the hours of 2pm to 6pm
daily.

Weather
Today
the weather in Eleuthera is cool. A cold front has set in and is causing a
spell of unseasonable weather. The skies are partially cloudy with a 55% chance
of rain. The high today is 79 degrees farenheit the low will be 75 degrees
tonight. The weather today is great for the outdoor activities especially the
beach. The sun is shining warm while the cool breeze soothes the skin.
News
Eleuthera
these days is in the middle of a political campaign like no other. This
coming week will see four major rallies by both parties, the FNM(free
national movement) and the PLP( Progressive Liberal Party). The CDR will also
be joining the major political parties in holding their campaigning rallies
in Eleuthera.
Eleutherians
are attending these political rallies in large numbers. Both political
parties have been having major support from the people of Eleuthera. Already
there have been a number of promises and development announcements made in
order to swing the minds of the political inclined Eleutherians.
Dr.
Baldwin Johnson and his team of physicians have visited a land site just near
Unique Hardware in Palmetto Point and chosen a location for a mini hospital
which will service the entire island of Eleuthera. Although no steps have
been taken in actually constructing or intending to construct anything on the
site. Is this another political ploy by the government. During the last
election promises like this were made to Eleutherians as well and nothing has
come out of them.
Eleutherians
will not stand for rhetoric this time. Eleutherians are not as gullible as
they used to be. They can’t afford to conduct themselves in this manner.
UnEmployment in Eleuthera is up to more than 30% and rising. People are fed up with the lack of attention
Eleuthera has gotten from both governments in power over the last thirty
years. Eleutherians are angry by this lack of progress and action by the
governments of the Bahamas. The ruling government can claim nothing that they
have done for the people of Eleuthera other than roads and water and you
can’t eat or use those in other than their manner. Eleuthera needs employment
fast. People are starving in some portions of this island. Yet government
does nothing to help the situation. There are simply no private jobs in the
private industry here. Businesses are closing and going out of business
everyday. Something substantial must be done before the entire economy of the
island of Eleuthera collapses. People are truly hurting in Eleuthera
economically. However the inhabitants maintain their dignity and await some
means of hope to assist with their difficult position. Something other than
rhetoric and lies must be done. Eleutherians are needy, the Bahamian
government knows it and does absolutely nothing to turn the situation around.
Fishing
report
Due
to the unclement windy weather fishermen are forced to stay in port until the
weather subsides to the normal conditions. Thus no fish at the fish market is
available at this time.

Weather
Today
in Tarpum Bay the weather is superb. The skies are sunny and bright with a
high of aroud 85 degrees Tarpum Bay the weather is superb. There is some
cloudidness so the chance of rain stands are around 65%. It’s a wonderful day
for a holiday.
News
Eleuthera
schools are closed in anticipation of the coming national and international
Easter season. Easter is the first major holiday on the holiday calender in
the Bahamas. A few settlements have meaningful homecoming at this time. It’s
a wonderful celebratory for the natives of the island and an nice get away or
break in the usual routine.
The
children are out in the streets everyday having fun and on the docks fishing
for bone fish and other local varieties.
The
homecoming at Rock Sound, Eleuthera has begun. They will have junkanoo there,
the police band usually comes up every year and of course theres a lot of
delicious Bahamian dishes. Food or the sale of food is a major part of the
attraction at the homecomings. Any Bahamian delicacy one can think of is
catered to at home comings. Foods like guava duff, conch salad, conch
fritters, fried barracuda, fried fish, jerk chicken or pork, peas and rice,
cole slaw and many other Bahamian dishes. What a intriguing place to have a
fantastic time meeting the indigenous people of Eleuthera island.
Fishing
repoert
This
is the busiest portion of the fishing season. Only three more days left for
the catching of lobster in the Bahamas. The season closes at this time to allow the delicious lobsters to
spawn and duplicate in many numbers. The lobster are not at extinction but
the schools of them need time and room to breath and roam around properly
giving their eggs a chance at
survival and place less stress on the egg layers around this time.
So
fishermen are frantic this time of the year. They are spending much more time
In the waters than they are used to for these last few days. You can purchase
quanties large or small of grouper, lobster, conch and other delicacies at the
docks in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera.

Weather
What
another beautiful day in the neighborhood. The skies are clear despite a few
clouds. There is a 60% chance of rain today. The temperature is a nice
87degrees farenheit. It’s a wonderful day for outdoors.
News
Eleuthera
has been largely uneventful recently. Not very much in the way of engaging
commerce has been going on in our faltering economy. Tourist arrivals have
been up for this time of year despite the falling tourism numbers coming to the
island of Eleuthera. This has been our largest boost factor to encourage the
populus that we are indeed still a popular destination for tourist.
Seasonally
now the year is wearing on and all of the cultural festivals, mostly home
comings are taking place in the various settlements. Lower Bouge and Rock
Sound have their home comings this coming weekend in these towns. A great
time will be had by all as they celebrate the homecoming of their own special
family and people. What a treasure to see someone you haven’t seen in years
and that person has had to make a special trip in order to come home and
remember the faces of the bright and wonder family and friends they have left
behind. We love it. Getting together around eats, drinks and Junkanoo processions
and having the time of our lives in front of our family and friends. What a
boost for the local economy and something nice to be said about our
commitment to keeping the family structure alive. So if your looking for a
place to visit this weekend make it, Tarpum Bay, Rock Sound or Lower Bouge
for a weekend of fun and freedom.
Fishing
report
Now
that its coming to a holiday weekend fishing in the local fish market steps
up production bring back more and more amounts of fish in order to supply the
local crowd as well as the crowd of people visiting from places like Nassau,
Freeport and the United States. It seems as though everyone appreciates a
good piece of fish to eat. The foreigners come to the fish markets and buy
more lobster arguably than Bahamains. At $11.00 per pound I can see this fact
being true.
Bahamians,
true Bahamians purchase mostly the small pan frying fish since it is mostly
within their budget. Gropuer filet costs around $4.00 per pound. The price
can vary up or down a little depending on which dock you purchase your fish
on.

Weather
In
the Bahamas today the weather was another great day for weather, a typical
sunny bright, warm Bahamian day of sun and fun. Another great day for the
beach and a wonder day for the outdoors and lots of fun. The temperature was
in the mid 80’s. There was a 75% chance of rain. No rain fell nevertheless.
News
What
a wonderful last week and a wonderful beginning of this present week in Eleuthera.
Last week was filled with activities and wonderful entertainment in the
central portion of the island. On Saturday the Run away resturant and Marina
hosted a BET comedy Jam at the resturant property. Tickets for the popular
comedy show was $15.00. The small corner bar in Palmetto point also had a
beer fest and food feast on the corner in the middle of town in Palmetto
point.
In
addition to all of this the usual Friday night fish fry was held in governors
harbor Friday night while the PLP rally was going on. They had tremendous fun
and entertainment both from the potium and the DJ Fatback of Ronnies disco.
In
addition to all this we had two wonderful friends visit the island from
Florida, Kristel and Nancy. They had and are having a wonderful time on the
island of Eleuthera and will certainly be back again for another wonderful
good time on our lovely fair island. Along with so many other tourists
visiting our friends took a day trip up to Bannerman town to see the
lighthouse at lighthouse beach at Bannermantown. Many people think this
secluded are is one of the loveliest places on the island of Eleuthera. I
agree with them in every way. Look out for a page of photos which will come
from this must be seen lovely beach area on the extreme southern tip of
Eleuthera Island. Its certainly worth taking a day trip up to see this lovely
area of Eleuthera.
We
certainly appreciated having a night of fun at Chicken Ed’s place in Gregory
town and the house parties are a fabulous idea to have our tourists and our
American guests get together. What wonderful times to commit to memory and
look forward to having more of them in the future, not so distant future to
come. Peace and love to everyone who loves Eleuthera island.
Fishing
report
Wonderful
fresh fish products continue to be sold at the docks in Tarpum Bay everyday
between the hours of 3pm and 6pm each afternoon. You may have to wait a while
for the fishermen to come but the niceness of purchasing fresh grouper,
lobster and conch are certainly worth the wait. Everyone has a great time at
the fish market bartering and bargaining for the best deal possible and
having wonderful fun at the fish market in Beautiful Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera.
Come one and all on most days of good sea weather to the fish market at

Weather
Todays
weather is somewhat dismal. The sky is overcast with an 85% chance of rain.
Most likely the rain will fall in the afternoon. The temperature is a cool 75
degrees farenheit. Its not a great day for out doors today.
News
The
leading parliamentary party, the FNM were stung yesterday by their losing of
the national referendum vote carried out across the country on the 27th
of February.
The
vote they said was an indication of how the turn out would be for the real
national election to take place some 90 days from now. Voters voted overwhelmly no to all five
questions in the referendum causing a stall in the passing of these
constitutional amendments in the house of parliament. The dead referendums
will be thrown out until voted on again some time in the future.
Many
Bahamians saw the national no vote as a strike out against the politicising
by both the FNM and the opposition PLP parties. They are calling in on both
sides in Parliament,”A victory for the Bahamain People.” And oh boy, do we
need a victory against political tyranny. So this is a positive thing for the
general Bahamian public.
Fishing
Report
Although
the weather is cold and sometimes rough some seasoned fishermen still seem to
be able to go out rough out the seas and come home with a reasonable catch of
fish, especially grouper and lobster the two main areas where the money
making is.
These
fishermen do a great job catching these portions of fish products off the
beaches on the east side of the island which we refer to as the north side.

What a wonderful weather day we’re having today. The
skies are clear and bright, no clouds in the distance. This is surely a no
rain day with lots of good weather and sunshine. This is a wonderful outdoor weather day. So go on out and have
a great time in the neighborhood.
Some observations:
A life of waiting for
home (my love for…………..)
Oh how island life
has changed.
change has made a mockery of
Those million souls that
Have gone before us.
Our home comings and controversial
Sales seem a typical way
To get the generations together.
Gathered around commerce,
Who pays the greatest price?
This the tattered mixed genealogy.
Delightful hues and Cold yellow eyes
like my Boganskia skies.
The lines of your face, Your esmerelda, Pampered and demur.
This view of you that Island life has for me.
You,the Caribbean sea, travellers rest and the sun.
How glorious a way this is to wait for Gods triumphant return.

Weather
What a wonderful day we had today. The skies were clear
with temperatures in the mid eighties,
no rain. The skies were bright and open. Our night tonight will be just as
great with lots of fresh not so cold air. The weather may be changing soon
however since there is a cold front pending for the central Bahamas soon.
News
Many of our Chicago
friends are visiting with us right now. We enjoy them visiting as we would
any of our great friends from around the world. Spring break is here and several of our college friends from
Chicago are here and having a great time partying and picnicking. Them
wonderful Cays out there for picnicking and so on.
Rumors, sometimes first hand rumors are buzzing that a
hotel development is in store for the people of Eleuthera and Jacks Bay.
There is a developer frequenting the area and he says that he as hopes of
beginning work of condiminiums and a hotel within the next few weeks. This is
great news for Eleutherians who need to be put back to work in a short while. Hopefully in the long run,
and what we depend on, is that in the end the bad economic times will be
worth the wait.
Main time in Eleuthera tourism arrivals are climbing
higher and higher with local motels and cottages being filled weekly with
American guests.
Venta club at Winding bay still hasn’t announced a date
for its reopening but the news is that shortly after they have bookings for
visitors over and above 100 Italian guests the club will be back in full
swing. This is good news and hopes for the future. This news comes directly
from one of the management team at the all inclusive Italian resort.
Fishing Report
Fishermen continue to do better at catching more lobster
and grouper. Since the beginning of the week the weather has improved and the
winds from the cold front last week have slowed down and the environment is
again friendly for fishermen. The better they do the more money we have to flow around in the local economy.
Lobster catching is still the prized catch of the day.
The expensive delicacies are now around $11.00 a pound making them the dish
of the rich and the elite since many locals cannot eat this expensive meal.
The favorite thing for locals to do is to collect the heads of the lobster
which are usually thrown away or used as bate in the fish pots. A few lobster
heads make a great boil and work quiet nicely as a pick at meal where the fun
is to crack open the lobster heads and find the little distribution of the
meat. The fat also from the heads of lobster also make a delicious meal
when mixed and cooked skilfully with the rice. Many people locally love stir
fried lobster from the lobster heads.

Weather
A cold front is lingering over the central Bahamas. The
temperature is down to 70 degrees farenheit. The skies are clear and free of
rain. There is a strong 20knot breeze blowing over the landscape.
News
The FNM government held three town meetings on the new
referendum being held in a national vote on February 27th. The Government
and the official opposition are holding town meetings campaigning to convince
the general public to vote along party lines. No for the PLP and Yes for the
FNM. The amendments to the constitution on the Bahamas is being pushed with
all forces by the FNM who sees the upcoming proposal and change to the
Amendment of the Bahamas as a personal party achievement in further
establishing a true level of equality for women in the Bahamas. Although it is very difficult to get a
copy of the constitution on the island of Eleuthera. There is no government
printing office on the island and islanders are being left to vote on the
referendum without a first hand knowledge as to the relevance of the
recommended changes by the ruling FNM party.
Fishing report
Today was the first day fishermen were able to continue
fishing since the coming of a seasonal winter cold front the island. The
weather and wind ceased for a few hours, just long enough to encourage some
fishermen to go out to the waters and fish for some quantities of lobster and
grouper.
Most of the fishermen in the village have freezers at
home. When they are unable to sell the daily catch right away the normally
take it home to the freezer and sell frozen fish at home. Just ask within the
settlement for directions on
purchasing quantities of frozen fish when purchasing fresh fish is not
an option such as with the coming of bad weather and so on.

Weather
Todays
weather is wonderful as per usual on the island of Eleuthera. The sun is out
in the partially clouded skies and the temperature is a very comfortable 82
degrees. There is a slight breeze over the landscape and there is a 50%
chance of rain today. Its another great day for outdoor activities and the
like.
News
Valentines
day went off without a hitch here on Eleuthera. Many stores profited from the
trade in Chocolates and flowers for that special someone on our sunny island.
Today
at the end of the week workers will be looking forward to the weekend
activities for some change and solace from the harsh work week. Events like
The fish fry at Governors Harbor and the weekly cookouts at Savannah Sound
sure take the edge off and give Eleutherians some activities to look forward
to and give them a place to go. We’ll have to see if any additional
committies plan weekend cookouts and other similar events.
Fishing
Report
After
a period of rough weather with the seas churning and muddy fishermen are
going back to the sea for their daily catch. Although the water in the harbor
is clear and relatively calm, depending on the direction of the wind
fishermen, experienced ones, know that taking a chance to venture out on such
a day would be fruitless as they would not be able to fight the seas and
gather the harvest from the sea they usually do. These bad weather spells
cost fishermen much interms of time spent waiting on the shores when they
know if the weather were good they would be out that enjoying their days
fishing for the big three much saught after commodities, Grouper, lobster and
conch.
These
are the staples of the Bahamian diet as far as seafood is concerned.
Bahamians love wonderfully prepared seafood. They can get lots of it once the
weather permits our local fishermen to take off each day on another days
adventure over the seas.
