| April 10, 2003 I was looking for jobs in the Houston Chronicle classified ads today when I came across and ad for a field rep at BJ Services. Doesn't that sound more like an ad that might apperar on the back page of the Houston Press? Watching Mike Tyson co-host the Jimmy Kimmel show last week was the some of the most riveting television I have ever seen. At different points he looked menacing, cracked jokes, and even sang a solo. You never knew if he was going to attack a guest or burst into tears. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen all week. When I first saw Astros starter Jeriome Robertson's name in print, I was absolutely sure he'd be black...I was wrong. Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow teaming up to write and perform a great little country song has to be one of the signs of the apocalypse. Another one is that Urban Outfitters has a new store in the most upscale section of the Galleria. Do you think that they at least appreciate the irony? While I was at the Galleria today, I decided to stop by to try and visit |

| a friend's girlfriend, who works in the lingerie department at Nordstroms. She wasn't working...I think. I made it all the way to the edge of the department, but was too uncomfortable to venture in any further. I don't know why I was embarrassed...if I had reason to buy lingerie, I should be proud. A nod to the Rice baseball team for there remarkable 30 game winning streak that came to an end last night. Anyone up for an Omaha roadtrip in June? My new favorite movie quote comes from Roger Dodger: Roger takes his sixteen year old nephew Nick out to a bar in an attempt to help get him laid. When Nick is hesitant to drink alcohol, Roger chastises, "Loss of inhibitions is crucial to your success tonight. Alcohol has been a social lubricant for thousands of years. What do you think, you are going to sit here and reinvent the wheel?" The White Stripes new album Elephant is an absolute must buy...it got the rare honor of a 5 star review in Rolling Stone. The album simply rocks...there is no argument there. I'm trying to stay away from writing too much about the war...I feel so strongly about it yet am also so very conflicted. I honestly feel that I do not know enough to comment intelligently on it. What I do know is that there is always a certain amount of absurdity and self-importance that come in times of crisis... like the much commented upon "Freedom Fries", the loss of revenue of French themed business such as La Madeline, Donald Rumsfield throwing a fit everytime a reporter referred to the Iraqi secret police as "The Fedayeen" instead of his preferred phrase of "Iraqi death squads". My favorite, though, is the Baseball Hall of Fame cancelling their celebration of the 15th anniversary of Bull Durham because of the anti-war stances of stars Tim Robbins and Susan Surandon. I can't decide if this is funny, abhorent, or just simply ridiculous. You know you are getting older when you occasionally find yourself more attracted to the mother than to the daughter. My on-air radio debut is next Wednesday. I'm going to be a guest on Matt Jackson's Rocket Fan Feedback show on SportsRadio 610 after the Rockets finale. There is absolutely no reason that all of you should not be listening...it is available on local radio or on the internet. |
