GHC AWARDS 2006

Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to the 2006 GH Changes Awards, hosted by...me! Since last year, members have plotted, schemed and generally worked their little butts off to create some of the most romantic, traumatic, angst ridden and all around entertaining storylines.  Now it is time to reward them for their hard work.  Although not everyone can win, this host thinks that all the players in this game deserve mad props for all their hard work.  YOU GUYS ROCK!

With that said...after a quick gown change, we will get right down to the first category.

BEST ADULT FEMALE

FIRST PLACE - Carly Corinthos  (played by Jen).  This year Carly climbs to the top...and it's easy to see why.  Forced to tell Sonny that she knew about Kristina all along, Carly watched her marriage to fall to pieces.  But being the strong resilient woman she has always been, Carly refused to beg or plead.  But Carly could only hold it together for so long and her daughter's rape sent her spiralling out of control.  everyone needs someone to lean on...even the feisty Carly Corinthos.

SECOND PLACE - Marisol Vargos (played by Mandy).  Readers got a chance to see a whole other side of Marisol this year.  For the longest time she presented herself as a business woman with a heart of stone.  But Devin Ross' reappearance in her life lead to a more softer side of Marisol to emerge.  The hard shell began to disappear and her fears, joys, and vulnerabilities shone through.

THIRD PLACE - Bobbie Spencer (played by Xavion).  Look! A vet! A vet with a real storyline! Hell, a vet with multiple storylines! This year proved that you don't have to be under 40 to be a thought provoking character.  Bobbie has done it all...been the supportive mother, the loving grandmother and of course the hard heated Spencer.  And along the way she found love...take note ABC Daytime, vets aren't just background players!

Other initial nominees: Helena Cassadine, Eden Cassadine, Alexis Davis

BEST ADULT MALE

FIRST PLACE - Vincent Caine (played by Xavion).  The impact this character has made can be felt canvas wide.  When he blew into town, it was easy to dismiss him as a smarmy player (case in point, his one night stand with Penny).  But he refused to be dismissed and soon started a string of crimes that grew more and more deadly.  The whole town wanted him dead but readers obviously enjoyed following the character's exploits.

SECOND PLACE - Devin Ross (played by Xavion).  The character of Devin Ross continued to become an integral part of the canvas over the past year.  Happily building a relationship with Skye, Devin was unprepared for the flood of emotions bought on by Marisol.  He tried to fight it but in the end he couldn't resist her, and now he is dealing with the guilt of cheating and the bigger problem of figuring out what he really wants.

THIRD PLACE - Jason Morgan (played by Jen).  It took years (and two failed marriages before) but Jason finally got the family he always dreamed about.  The father of a beautiful baby girl, Jason relished the life he was given.  But everyone knows that in soaps, nothing is perfect for long.  Jason soon was stricken with blinding headaches.  When he was told that he had a brain tumour, Jason refused surgery and has opted for spending what time he has left his way!

Other initial nominees: Luis Alcazar, John Durant

BEST YOUNGER FEMALE

FIRST PLACE - Sage Alcazar (played by Mandy).  Sage turned twenty this year which officially means she is no longer a teen.  Sage really went all out to prove this point, as she threw herself into her career and into planning the perfect wedding.  Her anger over her father's deception just spurned her on to prove that she didn't need anyone.  But when Talon left her at the altar, her world came crashing down.  Just how long can she keep up her "I don't need no one" facade?

SECOND PLACE - Elizabeth Webber (played by Jen).  Great things come in small packages...and Elizabeth is proof of that.  She proved over the past year.  Kidnapped by Kyan Thomas, Elizabeth didn't let her fear overpower her.  He frightened her, tied her up and took her away from her family.  One would think that she would hate him...but she not only forgave him but befriended him as well.  That my dear readers is the definition of an understanding soul.

THIRD PLACE - Courtney Morgan (played by Elyse).  Don't mess with Courtney! Although she may look like an innocent young woman...get on her bad side and you might find yourself squarely on your ass.  Courtney's big heart led to her opening a foundation for underprivileged children.  Said foundation was stolen away by Vincent Caine.  Courtney has vowed to not take this lying down.  Vincent Caine needs to watch his back!

Other initial nominees: Gia Campbell, Sam Morgan, Keesha Ward

Best Younger Male

FIRST PLACE - Kyan Thomas (played by Xavion).  Another one of Xavion's multidimensional characters - Kyan breezed into town to reconnect with his family - The Quartermaine's.  When he discovered that his mother had been murdered he immediately went after the person he assumed did it - Elizabeth.  Kyan also struggled to come to grips with his sexuality.  He slept with Dakota, and got her pregnant before accepting that he was gay.  He has had a lot of pain in a short time.  It's time for some happiness!

SECOND PLACE - Alexandros Cassadine (played by Ashley).  Alex is a brave man...he openly defied Helena and for awhile thought he got away with it, until Helena reminded him by kidnapping the son of the woman he loved.  Once back 'in line', Alex found himself comforting a broken hearted Sage.  Things got hot and heavy but both agreed to stop it.  Can Alex every truly be free of Helena's control and be happy?

THIRD PLACE - Lance 'Talon' Spencer (played by Chris).  Once again, the son of Luke and Laura (conceived in a lab by the way) leaves his mark.  He and Sage's relationship continued to deepen despite the fact that he disappeared for awhile.  He came back not knowing that Helena had planted a time bomb in his head.  On the day of his wedding, he lost his memory and Serena took advantage, convincing him that they were already married.  Together they ran  off to Pine Valley.

Other initial nominees: Connor Bishop, Javier Vargos

BEST TEEN FEMALE

FIRST PLACE - Chloe Roberts (played by Connie).  Chloe is the daughter of Carly Corinthos and Jasper Jacks...so she's got scheming in her genes.  She came to town right before Sonny and Carly broke up and immediately took a disliking to her stepfather.  She started to make friends before tragedy struck...Vincent Caine pulled her into his need for revenge against John Durant.  In the aftermath of a rape, Chloe reached out to fellow survivor Andy while pushing away those that love her the most.

SECOND PLACE - Lulu Spencer (played by Vix).  Luke and Laura's little girl...all grown up and dealing with her own set of issues.  Her best friend Dillon Quartermaine turned into her first love after he and Georgie realized things couldn't work.  Together they are blissfully happy - a rarity in Port Charles.  It's no wonder people are jealous...and it's no wonder Addison McCoy and Javon Louis are gunning for them.  Of course, Lulu is a Spencer...and you don't mess with a Spencer!

THIRD PLACE - Brooklyn Ashton (played by Lizzy).  Part Quartermaine princess, part Bensonhurst vixen...she is a mix of two very different worlds.  Blessed with a beautiful voice, Brooklyn came to town to escape her mother's pressure to be a cookie cutter pop singer.  She reconnect with her family - and now watches them fight from the sidelines (with a bowl of popcorn and large soda to boot!) She recently has raised eyebrows by hooking up with Jax and Jerry's little brother Joshua.

Other initial nominees: Katia Vargos, Dakota Miller

BEST TEEN MALE

FIRST PLACE - Lucas Jones (played by Tobias).  Lucas Jones takes a back seat no longer! Where as ABC Daytime brings him out on rare occasions, Lucas' storyline is one of the major aspects of the game.  Lucas has taken his share of licks this year - first by worrying that his family would not accept the fact that he was gay.  Then he landed in a coma after a fight with Kyan.  Once there he was nearly killed by vixen Cassandra Miller.  To top it all off, Lucas' first love Wade obviously had feelings for someone else.  What's a guy got to do to get a little joy in his life?

SECOND PLACE - Wade Coleman (played by Chris).  The boy that no one wanted...Wade has had one hell of a rough ride.  His parents refused to accept the fact that he was gay leading him to make some very bad choices relationship wise.  After breaking free of an abusive relationship, Wade came to Port Charles where he wormed his way into V Ardanowski's heart.  He fell for Kyan, who wasn't ready to accept his sexuality.  Wade decided he couldn't wait forever and moved onto Lucas.  But those feelings for Kyan...did they ever really go away?

THIRD PLACE - Diego Alcazar (played by Lizzy).  Meet the guy with a heart of gold.  He came to Port Charles to confront his father, Lorenzo. He ended up getting to know the rest of his family and decided to stick around.  After saving Penny Mitchell from a mugger, Diego found himself growing close to the spunky waitress.  He is in love with her and has just recently admitted it. Will this admission ruin their relationship?

Other initial nominees: Dillon Quartermaine, Guy Tucker

BEST ORIGINAL FEMALE

FIRST PLACE - Marisol Vargos (played by Mandy).  Who is the real Marisol Vargos?  The take charge mafia queen or the vulnerable confused woman?  Well in reality she is both.  Growing up in a criminal organization has led to her ability to handle just about anything.  She'll cut your throat with thinking twice.  But at marriage to Carlos in her late teens has led to her suppressing a lot of her true feelings - which Devin Ross is now bringing to the surface.  One thing is for certain though...no one messes with her children.

SECOND PLACE - Jaslyn Quartermaine (played by Missy).  Jaslyn is the twin sister of Jason Quartermaine.  When she lost Jason in the car accident, she felt like she lost a part of herself, leading to a dependency on drugs.  This year she began to take charge of her life.  She kicked her habit with some tough love and began to study to become a doctor.  Through it all, Dr. Tom Miller was there to help her.  Has her life finally turned around?

THIRD PLACE - Rosalyn Smythe (played by Mandy).  Rosalyn is a very closed off woman.  Growing up with Rae Cummings as a mother and Adam Chandler as a father has led to her running away from her family screaming.  Her sister Skye is the only one she can really stand, although as of late she is trying to make peace with her parents (and finding it easier with her father).  What most people don't know is that Roz has suffered through some serious trauma...can she ever comes to terms to it?

Other initial nominees: Cassandra Miller, Hera Jackson, Katia Vargos

BEST ORIGINAL MALE

FIRST PLACE - Alexandros Cassadine (played by Ashley).  Alex is a man caught between who he was meant to be and who he really is.  Raised by Helena, Alexandros came to town to do her bidding.  But he met Livvie Locke and soon found himself wanting to break free from what his mother wanted him to do.  But we all know that Helena does not forgive so easily...can he manage to break free?

SECOND PLACE - Devin Ross (played by Xavion).  Devin's struggles with his conscious have intrigued many readers.  Although he loves Skye, his feelings for Marisol cannot be ignored. He prides himself on being an honorable man which is why his current situation is creating such havoc in his life.  His pain is real, his guilt is real...he is a believable character and it's easy to see why he is a fan favorite.

THIRD PLACE - Kyan Thomas (played by Xavion).  At first Kyan's smart alec attitude annoyed some and charmed others (take for instance his relationship with grandfather "Eddie") But as readers got to know him they began to realize how layered he is.  Like the other nominees in this category, Kyan struggled between two choices this year and readers really felt for him.  He tried his best to be what he thought a boy his age should be but in the end, he chose to be himself.

Other initial nominees: Talon Spencer, Caleb Turner

BEST VILLAIN

FIRST PLACE - Vincent Caine (played by Xavion).  Because really...could their be any other choice? (*ahem* no offense to the other nasty nominees)  Who else has caused as much pain and suffering in such a small time?  He stole Courtney's foundation, leaving Riley without the insurance he needed for treatment.  He kidnapped and raped Chloe Roberts.  He schemed, he plotted, and he was an all around nasty piece of work.  No wonder he was wished dead by more than half of Port Charles!

SECOND PLACE - Helena Cassadine (played by Jen).  The Queen of the elaborate schemes.  She blackmailed Luke Spencer into marriage.  She wiped Lance Spencer's memory causing him to walk out on his wedding to Sage.  She kidnapped an innocent baby to keep her son in line.  And to top it all off, she found a look a like to assume Nikolas' life so she could gain control of the Cassadine family.  She definitely has a flair for the dramatic!

THIRD PLACE - Cesar Faison (played by Mandy).  Cesar is like a cockroach...he just won't die.  This year marked the return of the not so dead Faison.  His agenda - wipe out the Scorpios for once and for awhile.  He brought with him a secret weapon - Robert and Anna's son Colin, who he stole and has raised since birth to hate his father.  He has many plans up his sleeve and his revenge might just spill out to affect the rest of Port Charles!

Other initial nominees: Cassandra Miller, Serena Baldwin

BEST RIVALRY

FIRST PLACE - Vincent Caine vs. Everyone in Port Charles...well, just about everyone (Played by Xavion and everyone else). This man managed to tick off many members of the town with in a short period.  Courtney had her foundation stolen.  Penny found herself harassed by him.  Riley was left without any help in his time of need.  Worst of all, Chloe was brutally attacked devastating her and those who care about her.  Well, Vincent...karma, she's a bitch!

SECOND PLACE - Alexis Davis vs. Sonny Corinthos (played by former member Jen and Mandy).  Once friends, once lovers...now enemies.  Things ended badly between Sonny and Alexis, leading to her hiding the fact that he was the father of her daughter.  She did it to protect Kristina.  But Sonny didn't see it that way when he finally found out the truth.  He was livid.  And now the two are gearing for a custody trail that no one in Port Charles is going to forget!

THIRD PLACE - Kyan Thomas vs. Lucas Jones (played by Xavion and Tobias).  These two young men probably would have never came into contact with each other if it wasn't both of them being attracted to Wade.  Kyan met him first and Wade eagerly returned his feelings...but Kyan wasn't ready to admit the truth about himself.  Not willing to wait and hope, Wade moved on to Wade.  Things came head to head at Sage and Talon's almost wedding...when Kyan punched Lucas leading to him being in a coma!

Other initial nominees: Serena Baldwin vs. Sage Alcazar, Luke Spencer vs. Helena Cassadine

BEST FRIENDSHIP

FIRST PLACE - Kyan Thomas and Elizabeth Webber (played by Kyan and Jen).  This is a friendship that most would have never seen coming...given how the pair met.  Kyan believed that Elizabeth was behind his mother's death and getting tired of the police bumbling the case, decided to take justice into his own hands.  He kidnapped her...so how did they become friends?  Well, Elizabeth saw the pain in his eyes and reached out to him.  She became his support through all his tough times.

SECOND PLACE - Diego Alcazar and Penny Mitchell (played by Lizzy and Mandy).  This friendship started in a moment of peril.  Penny had been attacked and Diego found her.  He stayed with her and she found herself comfortable around him.  She admitted that she wanted to open her own resturant and he encouraged her.  But then the feelings between the two began to change -  leading to confusion and mixed messages.  Can the two salvage any kind of relationship out of this?

THIRD PLACE - Courtney Matthews and Carly Corinthos (played by Elyse and Jen).  Carly and Courtney have been friends since it was discovered that Courtney and Sonny were brother and sister.  When Courtney hooked up with Jason, Carly was over the moon and to this date she is the only woman that Carly really ever approved of for her friend.  Even after Jason and Courtney divorced, the two remained close although the fact that Carly has a newly discovered teenage daughter with Courtney's new squeeze Jax might be a little weird.

Other initial nominees: Caleb Turner and Sydney Cooper, Sam Morgan and Livvie Locke

BEST COUPLE

FIRST PLACE - Devin Ross and Marisol Vargos (played by Xavion and Mandy).  Last year Devin and Skye topped this list...this year it's Devin and Marisol...leading one to believe that Devin's got some serious male charisma.  Jokes aside, Devin and Marisol are a couple fighting against their feelings.  Devin is involved with Skye and Marisol is married to Carlos.  That didn't stop them from making love once. Now each is confused and wondering what to do.

SECOND PLACE - Lance 'Talon' Spencer and Sage Alcazar (played by Chris and Mandy).  Currently this couple is probably ready to fight their hardest battle.  After fighting off Serena and making peace with his background, Sage and Talon settled into a nice quiet life.  They started making wedding plans and were counting down the days until they were husband and wife.  Sage should have realized something was wrong when Talon went missing but later showed up as if nothing happened.  The day of her wedding he was struck with memory loss, a perfect chance for Serena to swoop in.  The two of them ran off to Pine Valley leaving Sage broken hearted.

THIRD PLACE - Jason Morgan and Sam Morgan (played by Jen and Mandy).  Jason and Sam started out as a one night stand, which soon turned into a serious relationship.  Now married and happy with baby Heaven, Jason and Sam supported each other through some trying times - namely Sam discovering she was adopted and had a twin and Jason finding out about his sister's drug addiction.  Sam and Jason got through that only to discover that Jason had a brain tumour.

Other initial nominees: Alex Barclay and Ava Gordon, Frisco Jones and Bobbie Spencer

BEST LOVE TRIANGLE

FIRST PLACE - Lucas Jones/Wade Coleman/Kyan Thomas (played by Tobias, Chris and Xavion).  An angsty triangle filled with confusion, heartbreak and happiness.  Wade came to town and was immediately attracted to Kyan.  For his part, Kyan wasn't even sure he was gay (or at least he was trying to convince himself he was not by sleeping with Dakota).  Discouraged, Wade met Lucas and was charmed.  Lucas had discovered he was gay and after making peace with his parents, wasn't afraid to admit it.  Wade and Lucas became close...but then Kyan came back, and he wanted to be with Wade!

SECOND PLACE - Sage Alcazar/Lance 'Talon' Spencer/Serena Baldwin (played by Mandy and Chris).  For the second year in the row, this triangle rages on and captures the attention of the readers.  Some thought it was over for good as Talon and Sage planned their wedding but the real twist came the day of the ceremony.  Having had his mind tampered with by Helena, Talon couldn't remember anything...and wicked Serena stepped in.  She convinced him that she was his wife and the two skipped off to Pine Valley leaving Sage at the altar.  When the truth comes out, can Talon and Sage get back what they had or has she lost him to Serena forever?

THIRD PLACE - Skye Quartermaine/Devin Ross/Marisol Vargos (Played by Lizzy, Xavion, and Mandy).  Last years best couple and this years best couple all rolled into one triangle.  Devin and Skye were happy...or so most thought.  The reappearance of Marisol in Devin's life brought back old feelings.  And Devin wasn't the only one thinking wistfully about the past.  Marisol found herself wanting Devin too...leading to a passionate night.  But Devin clearly still cares about Skye...and he cares about Marisol.  How is this one going to end?

Other initial nominees: Palmer Hellfex/Georgie Jones/Dillon Quartermaine, Mallory Marshall/Javon Louis/Katia Vargos

BEST WRITING CHEMISTRY

FIRST PLACE - Xavion and Chris.  Kudos to these two long standing members.  Both have been active in the game for more than a year and both work their hearts out to create real characters and realistic storylines (well, as realistic as it gets for a soap opera, folks!).  Highlights for these two include Dakota and Kyan's relationship that ended in a hate filled tirade and a faked death, and of course the angst filled relationship of Kyan and Wade.  Keep up the good work!

SECOND PLACE - Chris and Mandy.  When these two put their heads together, look out Port Charles...as both have a tendency to want to be as dramatic as possible.  Together they have schemed some of the games more wilder storylines - including Caleb and Tia's marriage that has the both of them trading barbs.  Also, they have worked on Sage and Talon's storyline for over a year now and promise to never let the couple become stale and boring! Don't ever stop trading late night emails full of brainstorms and wacky ideas!

THIRD PLACE - Xavion and Mandy.  Two hard working writers giving storylines a chance...Marisol and Devin were created separate of each other and the connection between them was not envisioned until both had been on the canvas for some time.  A small suggestion of a past relationship turned into longing...and the two decided to take it to the next level.  Now this small connection has turned into a full fledged storyline. (Oh and lets not forget their ability to make characters snark at each other ie: Durant/Sonny, Durant/Ric...come to think of it, Durant just brings that out of most of Mandy's characters)

Other initial nominees: Jen/Mandy, Chris/Tobias

BEST DRAMATIC STORYLINE

FIRST PLACE - Vincent attacks Chloe.  Vincent wanted revenge on John Durant.  He hated John and everything he stood for and planned to hurt him in the worst way.  Enlisting the help of Marisol, Vincent arranged to kidnap John's granddaughter Chloe.  He met with his captive face to face, and to reader's horror, his intentions soon became apparent.  In one of the game most chilling moments, Vincent raped Chloe, leaving her devastated.

SECOND PLACE - Talon leaves Sage at the altar.  Her wedding day is supposed to be one of the best days of a girl's life. Well, Sage's wedding day turned into the day from hell.  It was that day that Talon woke up with no memory...he had no idea that he was supposed to pledge the rest of his life to Sage that day.  Instead he ran into Serena and convinced he was with her, ran off.  Back at the church, after getting past Lucas' attack, Sage waited patiently and then in a heartbreaking moment, realized Talon wasn't coming and faced the crowd to explain that she had been jilted.

THIRD PLACE - Maxie needs a heart transplant.  Maxie was a healthy girl, but her health problems as a child and her drug use as a teenager was about to come back to haunt her.  A fight with Andrea over Jesse sent her plunging into the icy waters of the harbor, she went into shock and an existing problem with her heart was discovered by doctors.  The diagnosis was not good - without another heart transplant, Maxie's health would deteriorate and she would eventually die.  With her family surrounding her, she slipped into a coma until a donor was found.  Maxie awoke to realize that she had lost her cousin's heart.

Other initial nominees: Connor takes over Nikolas' life, Wade is torn between Kyan and Lucas

BEST ROMANTIC STORYLINE

FIRST PLACE - Devin and Marisol fight their attraction for one another.  Years ago they had a passionate affair despite the fact that she was married to mob boss, Carlos. It ended abruptly leaving unresolved feelings...and both thinking they would never see one another again.  When they came face to face in Port Charles, it became clear that the feelings were still there.  She was still married and he was involved with Skye.  But in the end, the pair couldn't keep their hands off each other and once again they were in the midst of an affair.

SECOND PLACE - Alex is torn between love and duty.  Alexandros came to Port Charles to be of assistance to his mother.  He didn't count on meeting and becoming immediately smitten with Livvie Locke.  It soon became apparent that he was falling for the raven haired beauty and her newborn son.  So Helena reminded him that he was there to do her bidding by threatening both of them! Alex decided to do whatever he could to keep Livvie and Jacob safe...even if that meant offering Sage a shoulder to cry on!

THIRD PLACE - Wade is Lucas' first love.  Coming out was not easy for Lucas...he was afraid of his parent's disappointment and what others make think of him.  But he didn't want to hold back on who he truly was.  It helped that he met Wade, an openly gay teen.  Lucas was attracted to him and Wade eagerly returned his feelings.  For awhile the pair were happy...that was until Kyan came back into the picture.

Other initial nominees: Diego and Penny's friendship slowly transforms to more, Dillon and Lulu's friendship turns into a solid relationship

BEST OVERALL STORYLINE

FIRST PLACE - Vincent's reign of terror.  This man created enough havoc, enough terror, and enough heartbreak in such a short time.  His dastardly deeds touched just about everyone in Port Charles, whether they were the primary target or not.  It was no wonder that he was murdered one night...now there is only one question but many answers: Who killed Vincent Caine?

SECOND PLACE - Talon and Sage's non-wedding.  This one event branched off into many storylines that effected the game.  Besides the obvious fracturing of Sage and Talon, it was at the wedding that Kyan and Lucas had a huge fight leading to his coma.  The fall out of the non-wedding also affected Alex and Livvie, as Alex was ordered by his mother to comfort Sage.  Who would have thought that the aftermath of this sad day would be felt throughout the canvas?

THIRD PLACE - The Lucas/Wade/Kyan triangle.  In general Daytime TV tends to place storylines surrounding gay characters onto the backburner.  Whether they are unsure of how to write for the characters or scared of some sort of backlash, real meaty storylines involves gay characters are hard to come by.  That's what makes this storyline unique.  The players involved worked hard to make the storyline realistic and has readers hooked!

Other initial nominees: La Familia Corinthos, Maxie's Heart Troubles

Another year, another great set of winners! Enjoy!
