The AOIT experience at Hoover High School has affected my high school experience greatly. When I first thought about joining the AOIT I was looking for more career experiences, and I got them! At the beginning of the AOIT program there was a field trip before the school semester began. We went to the beach where we met the AOIT teachers. Then the school year started in 2003 and the AOIT program was born! The first class I took was BACA with Ms.Towers. In that class we learned Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. We also learned how to create websites so we would have our own student portfolio websites. The next class was T.S.S with Mr.Voeltner in which we learned how to build a computer, how to take charge, and how to work with teachers.
During our two years in the academy we were given the opportunity to participate in many field trips. We went to Telemundio to see how a television company is made. We also went to SBC, a very popular company that runs computers, telephones, etc. We also went to HP and to the High Tech Fair. One experience that stands out in my mind is the field trip to the Union Tribune because we got to see how newspapers are made and how they publish them and print them. We also went to Ethical, a program that allowed us to view a live television show. It featured San Diego Padre baseball player Mark Loretta, Clark Anthony, and Jim Lavisine, a former charger player now TV news anchor. That field trip was a great experience because it was interesting to see how television works and I also got to be on TV!

Mrs.Welshans set me up to attend community college over my summer vacation plus I also earned college credit and a free laptop computer. First, I took college classes at Mesa College. I completed a video project in that class with someone from Kearny High School, The video project was called College Smarts, a spoof of the television show Street Smarts. In College Smarts we asked college students some really easy questions to difficult questions to see if they could answer them.
AOIT was a great experience and it did affect my high school experience a lot! "High School George" is different from "Middle School George". "High School George" joins programs like Airband, Wrestling and AOIT! Middle School George didn't do much. The AOIT experience has changed my personality and helped me to become a more outgoing person. Thanks!
