WEDDING CARD
EPISODE 15: WEDDING CARD - Brent's elation over finding a valuable hockey card is cut short by news his parents never married.

This episode features Darryl Sittler as himself.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: After the season-opening killer episode "The Brent Effect," the show continues the roll with another episode that is just as funny, although the true gem of all the plots is not the main one of Oscar and Emma not actually being married, but in one of the side ones - Lacey being under the impression that Oscar can't read.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: When Lacey, thinking that Oscar is illiterate, tells him she's behind him all the way, Oscar interprets that vote of confidence to be a show of support for his idea of a prenuptial agreement with Emma. You'd think after the many times the "simple misunderstanding" bit has been used (both before and after "Three's Company" beat the idea to death), there wouldn't be much new under the sun for it, but this version was classic.

MEMORABLE LINE: When Davis is offering to set up a wedding ceremony for Oscar and Emma and starts talking about an arch full of daisies for the ceremony, Oscar actually reminded me of my grandfather with this one: "Daisy arch? You'll never get me under one of those death traps." I've read a few interviews with "Corner Gas" cast members talking about how viewers often identify with characters in the episodes, and here was one glaring example where I could. Everything on the planet that wasn't built by my grandfather was, in his eyes, a "death trap."

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: As she did many times in the first season, particularly in episodes such as "Grad 68" and "Comedy Night," here she shows her ability to shine in comedy when there's not a blatantly comedic idea to work with. Just watching her introduce the "Happy Little Train" book to Oscar cracked me up to the point where I stopped the tape and watched that scene about five or six times before moving on to the rest of the episode.

FUNNIEST LINE IN THIS EPISODE: "Don't blame me if you can't see through a lie!" This was from Oscar to Brent towards the end of the episode after

FUNNIEST SCENES IN THIS EPISODE: Much like the first episode of the second season, this one has too many hilarious scenes to limit this category to one entry.

1.) When Davis tells Oscar that Brent is emotionally shattered by the news of his parents not being married, and the next scene shows Brent having a grand old time slaughtering Hank in a game of knuckles.
2.) When Lacey shows the book "The Happy Little Train" to Oscar in an attempt to get him started on the wonderful world of reading.
3.) When Oscar asks Brent to be his best man.
4.) From the time when Oscar tries to read a public apology to those present at the rehearsal dinner and Lacey stops him, to the time when she learns that Oscar can actually read.
