GRAD 68
EPISODE 5: GRAD 68 - "Karen tries to crack a high-profile graffiti case in Dog River that's gone unsolved for years."

This episode features Julie Stewart ("Cold Squad," a show that "Cold Case" appears to have ripped off - I have the first season on DVD and highly recommend it) as the "technician" who assists Karen.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: This episode features some of Gabrielle's best comedic work in the first season, and is one the funniest episodes of any sitcom I've ever seen. Her call to the Dog River Howler, her "No offense, Hank, but...," her "I'm great at analogies, I'm like...", etc, are absolutely hilarious.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: There were so many that it's probably easiest if you just scroll down to the list of funniest scenes. If I have to pick one that was the most memorable for me, it would probably be #5.

MEMORABLE LINE: From Oscar: "By the time you're 13, you should be able to hold your liquor."

KUDOS TO GABRIELLE: Aside from those mentioned in my overall impressions of this episode, I laughed myself silly when at 2:14 Lacey said "Oh, please, this is the Dog River Howler, it's not the good writing thingy." Perfect delivery.

FUNNIEST SCENE IN THIS EPISODE: Since this is the funniest episode of the season, I'll list a baker's dozen, since there's no way I can limit it to one.

1.) Brent's refusal to accept Wanda's "resignation."
2.) Lacey's call to the Dog River Howler.
3.) When Hank, while playing coin basketball, explains why he quit writing for the Dog River Howler.
4.) When Brent notes that Hank's last action seemed to contradict what he (Brent) just said.
5.) Lacey's analysis of both Hank's communicative skills and the Dog River Howler's bake sale article.
6.) At 10:04 when Lacey explains how good she is at analogies.
7.) When Karen tells her "technician" that she's working on a cold case, and the "technician" asks "Who cares?" (Remember what Julie Stewart, the "technician," is famous for).
8.) The look on Brent's face as he removes his glasses after Fitzy asks to speak to him in the capacity of mayor of Dog River.
9.) When Davis mentions the "other idiotic bylaws" town council passes.
10.) When Oscar identifies a suspect for Karen from a "lineup."
11.) When Oscar explains to Karen all the misery of graduation ceremonies - how you had to sit there and listen to some guy "going on and on."
12.) When Wanda goes to "christen" the bathroom.
13.) When Emma, who earlier misunderstood what "Wings Night" means, rips Oscar for making the same mistake - especially since Oscar's version of the mistake was much more understandable than Emma's.

If forced at gunpoint to name the funniest of these scenes, I could probably narrow down the choices to 2, 4, 5, and 13, but at that point I'd probably have to just take the bullet.
