CHAPTER 13

Analise stood facing the woods to the north of her village. She had brought Sim to the village this way-it seemed like ages ago-and now she was here to watch him leave. It had only taken a day to prepare for his departure after his shocking announcement. Analise still could not believe that this was happening to her. She looked at Sim, who was standing with his backpack, ready to go. "Well, I guess this is it."

"Yes. I think I know where the craft would have landed. I only hope it's salvageable enough that I can fix it so it will fly."

Analise could not believe her ears. "How can you talk about your flying machine at a time like this?"

"I don't know. I've never found it so hard to face the situation until now."

"Let's just get this over with. I hate good-byes."

"Then don't say good-bye, because I will be back before you know it. I love you, Analise. Don't worry."

"I love you, Sim."

Sim kissed her briefly, and looked in her eyes. He seemed about to say something, but only shook his head slightly and turned and headed into the forest.
