HISTORY
According to one version, Boracay took
its name from the local word of cotton “borac”, in reference
to the white, cotton-like color of the sand. “Boracay”,
according to another version, means “frothing and bubbling”,
a description of the waters by the shores
of the island. Still another version dates back to the Japanese occupation
of the island. “Borak” refers to the white rice paste
used to make-up by Japanese theater performers.
“Hai” , the Japanese “yes”, completes the name
“Borac-hai”. More importantly, visitors respect the serene
quality of the place, and pay tribune to native Boracaynons by behaving
according to loval behavioral codes which means no nudity, no fighting,
and no loud commotion.
