2006 WNYCAA DIVISION II
ó CHAMPIONS ó
The FLM Intensity homeschool soccer team won the Western New York Christian Athletics Association (WNYCAA) Division II Championship on October 21st over long-time rivals Rochester School for the Deaf. The four-year battle between the two teams finally went the other way for FLM, as the team won 3-2 over Rochester on a chilly night at Wayland-Cohocton Sports Complex. RSD and FLM have met in the Division II Championship game every year since 2003, with FLM falling short by one goal each season. This year proved to be different, as FLM finished the season with a 9-1-1 record and the Division title. "Whether or not we have future successful seasons is in the Lord's hands," said Coach David Forrest, who has been head coach since 2004. "This season, without a doubt, we can all say we 'learned more about soccer and had fun in the process'. All glory to Jesus Christ."

For the first time, the league will have All-Star Games to be held on Saturday, October 28th at Calvary Chapel. The girl's game will be at 12:00, followed by the boy's game around 2:00. FLM will select a total of five players (three boys and two girls) for this honor. Each player selected will receive an All-Star shirt to be worn in the game. 4th Annual NYS Homeschool Tournament
Game Schedule Posted on Tournament Page
The Homeschool Tournament will be held Saturday, September 30th at Bullis Park in Macedon, NY. If you have not payed your tournament fee and/or t-shirt fee, please do so as soon as possible. The players always have a great time at the tournament, there are competitions for the players to compete in throughout the day and we have a 3 1/2 hour break for the players to relax and hang out. We need to begin thinking about organizing a cookout for lunch, this worked well last year! If you would like to volunteer to help out with this, please contact Coach Forrest.

Varsity and JV Rosters Announced
The rosters for this season were decided Wednesday, August 23. Selection for the teams is generally based on age, with most players ages sixteen and up being placed on Varsity. Younger players may be double-rostered, playing for both the Varsity and JV teams, or solely on JV, dependent on skill level. One of our team goals is to learn more about soccer and have fun in the process. With two teams, we hope to maximize playing time for everyone. If you are listed as double-rostered and unable to be, please contact Coach Forrest to discuss the situation. Fees are $75.00 for Varsity and double-rostered players; $35.00 for JV; and a multi-player family discount, fee not to exceed $125. Registration forms and other requirements are necessary to play.

USSF Issues New Hydration Guide
New study shows chronic dehydration is a significant issue among youth soccer players
CHICAGO – June 5, 2006 – Adolescent males typically lose up to 1.5 liters of sweat per hour when performing intense soccer activities in the heat, says a new first-of-its-kind study from the University of Connecticut presented this week at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) annual conference in Denver, Colorado. The three-year research project also showed that nearly two-thirds of male and female youth soccer players are dehydrated before they even take the field and the average hydration routine observed by parents and coaches isn’t preventing the problem. However, educational intervention implemented by researchers positively influenced hydration knowledge and attitudes among youth soccer players, and improved the chances of proper hydration status on the field.
