May 2004 Annual report of Project 5 loaves and 2 fish including financial report

Project "5 loaves and 2 fish" is we pray connecting the church with plenty to the church in need. The vision is similar to that in 2 Cor. 8:13-15 where Paul is writing to the church in Corinth regarding relief and support for the church in Jerusalem. In this particular passage Paul writes "--I am not trying to put a burden on you, but since you have plenty at this time, it is only fair you should help those in need. Then when you are in need and they have plenty they will help you. In this way both are treated equally as the scripture says, "the one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little." Ex. 16:17-18.

Montana De La Flor

Through our brother Paul and his wife Beth we have provided $ 250 US for basic needs for both the Lenca Indian church in El Ocotal and the Lenca Indian church of Montana de la Flor. These villages are isolated and very needy at times. In addition $ 500 US. has been provided to purchase cement for the church in Montana de la Flor. The cement has been used for:
  1. House floors to help eliminate chinche picuda and chagas disease. The thatched roofs of the houses have been replaced shortly after hurricane Mitch when famine and disease struck the area.
  2. "Pilas" for washing. This is a square cement sink and scrub board where water can be stored.
  3. Completion of some of the torn down mud wall houses which had cement to make blocks but not enough for the foundation walls.

106 bags of cement have been used in these projects.

Corn---- 1000 lbs + beans, spaghetti, rice, lard, coffee, chicken, salt, and sugar have been provided to these churches as needed. Also a store has now been set-up in Montana de la Flor, which is new to this area and Paul feels is one of the best ways to provide nourishment to these people.

During the course of the year brother Paul and brother Crispin (local Honduran missionary) had recieved threats on their lives.

Chief Cipriano whose life was also threatened wrote this letter.

"We are ready to die, not for men but for Jesus Christ. We are not with destructive arms but with stronger arms and this arm ......is the Lord Jesus Christ. And we will be praying for...(and he names 7 towns that are receiving water for irrigation and domestic supply where the threats come from.)

Brother Crispin, don't come to the mountain until we solve this problem. I, Ciprriano don't want anything dangerous to occur on the way. When you left, it left us very sad. We could not eat because we were very sad. We want peace because God doesn't want a fight but that we walk together as brothers. May God bless you greatly."

Paul shares that this dangerous conflict is between :

  1. Ladino and Indians
  2. Roman Catholic authorities and evangelical believers
  3. Those who grow marihuana and those who need water for their tomatoes

We know this problem is as in Eph. 6:12-- For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We can help as in Eph. 6:18 Praying with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.
