The A1 pit at Brampton is properly one of the places we tend to fish most this is generally due to lack of free time so being close to us helps and it is not a bad water to fish and has a good stock of reasonable size pike .It covers quite a large area although this is broken up by numerous islands and reed beds creating smaller interlinking pools the channels between these being a favorite place of ours to drop a bait. The water is quite shallow between 3ft and 5ft and the bottom can be very weeded especially during the summer months in some areas there are fallen trees branches creating snags. Access to the outer swims is very good and easy to get to although getting to some of the interior swims can be a little bit on the awkward side. One of the strange thing is that we have never caught a pike under 7lbs here in fact they seem plentiful in the 7lb to 9lb range we have also had some 10lb , 12lb and 14lb being our best here although we have seen 3 15lb pike pulled out one after the other and an 18lb so i suppose there is properly a 20 lurking in there some where. We generally fish here with a static dead bait on the bottom or popped up slightly either way seems to produce results as for bait almost any seems to work sprat, sardine, roach , lamprey; except trout which we seem to have had no luck with. One disadvantage however is this will freeze over very quickly as soon as temperatures drop to freezing. The water is owned and run by Brampton Angling club memberships are available at the local post office or Stan Jays tackle in near by Godmanchester. |
