| The backgrounds and experiences of guest artists for Finding Root have proven to be as varied as the music comprising the program. All of them have brought incredible enthusiasm and energy to this project, and as a small gesture, I am pleased to offer this page as a tribute to the stories of those who have given so willingly of their time to participate. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Ahmad Kabbani was born in Jerusalem and spent most of his childhood living between there and Spain. Although he had no formal training on guitar, he claims that "flamenco to me was sort of a language I understood, I fell in love with the sound at a very young age." He began working on his technical skills after graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in Biology. After a stint in basic science research, Ahmad has decided to go back to school to study medicine, with the eventual hope of becoming a physician for underserved populations. Music, of course, will be part of every step of his journey. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Dr. Mark Kunkel is trained professionally as a psychologist, and has been teaching and working in this field for the last 20 or so years. He has been at the University of West Georgia since 2000 and it is, indeed, home. In addition to finding considerable meaning and struggle and joy in his vocation (etymologically related to "calling") he responds as well to the whispers of long-distance trail running, electronics, and adding his small and inadequate threads to the rich and wonderful tapestry of music. As part of his doctoral work Dr. Kunkel spent a year in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, driving there in a 1972 bus with his tolerant wife and wide-eyed daughters. While there he developed an abiding affection for Latin America and its muses and music. It's a joy and privilege for him to sing and play with Margret. They'll do a Chilean love song of gratitude for the nests that warm and shelter us and to which we always return, and a song of Dr. Kunkel's stirred during a trail run at Sweetwater State Park. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Indonesian Music Team, Our Lady of the Assumption Church (information pending) Aang Daniel (vocals), Camelia Gunawan (vocals), Marco Halim (guitar), Sofjan Handojo (percussion), Stefano Iwan (bass), Yoshiko Santoso (piano) The Indonesian music team of Our Lady of the Assumption Church has been playing together for more than four years. Made up of musicians of all ages and backgrounds, the team is united by its dedication to the Catholic chruch and to preserving the culture and heritage of the local Indonesian community. The song they have contributed to Finding Root is about the spirit of offering related to the Eucharistic liturgy of the Catholic church. As one member said, "The Catholic life is an offering of one's self to God. In the holy eucharist the people are presented with the costly self-offering of Jesus Christ, are claimed and set free by him, and are led to respond by offering to him their lives."This spirit of offering is at the center of the music of the Indonesian music team, and it is with open heart and mind that they share their gifts and well-wishes with all involved in Finding Root. |

| Corina Lee "I was born and raised in Brazil, where I learned to play the piano. Music has been a big part of my life and after a hiatus of 3 years while I earned my Masters Degree in Architecture at Virginia Tech, I have returned to playing and learning beyond just hitting the right keys. Recently I have found the joy of singing, especially with the Archdiocesan Festival Choir of Atlanta. I am currently a volunteer music minister at Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Church and School, where I play and sing at the Vigil Mass and school weekly masses. I want to thank Margret for this opportunity to bring a sample of the rich Brazilian music to your ears!" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Mark Wagemaker is a retired aerospace engineer who used to make airplanes invisible. He now spends his time tending his small farm and building a small practice as a therapist to the underserved. Mark has many musical instruments, but he enjoys the soulful vibration of the crystal bowls and looks forward to joining Margret, again in song, in a free-form introduction and closure. As Mark describes it, "The bowls vibrate the energy that we put into them, I choose love; please join us." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
