It was Friday evening. Jenna had only talked to Justin once, because he called to ask if he could have Katie for the weekend and she still hadn't heard from JC. Although when Justin called he did talk about how JC avoided him. She could hear the pain in his voice and it was all her fault. Justin decided he was going to take Katie to the studio with him. Jenna didn't think it was a good idea but Justin thought that maybe if he took Katie JC would open up. Tonight Audrey and she would meet up with them.
"Are you ready?" Audrey said knocking on the bathroom door.
"Yeah be there in a minute," Jenna replied as she checked her image in the mirror once more. She had a feeling it was going to be a long night.
"So I sang, and they say I was good!" Katie said telling Jenna about her day.
"Do you like singing?" Jenna asked. They were at the restaurant. Jenna was hoping JC would be there but she should have known that he wouldn't be.
"Yea," Katie said as she finished her chicken strips.
"Are you going to spend the weekend with Justin?" Audrey asked knowing the answer.
"Yea," Katie said.
That night while Justin tucked Katie in she asked, "Are you my daddy?"
Justin debated how to answer that. He figured he should just tell her the truth, "Yeah, I am."
"What about my other daddy?" Katie said.
"You mean JC?" Justin asked.
"Yea," Katie replied.
Justin thought for a minute and then said, "Well it's complicated. Even though I'm your daddy, since your mommy loves JC he kind of is too."
"So I have two daddies?" Katie asked.
"Yes, and you're a very lucky girl because when most kids only have one daddy you get two that we love you, as well as your mommy, Audrey, and Derek," Justin said.
"Yea," Katie said as she yawned, "'Night daddy."
Justin's held back tears she called him Justin most of the time and now it was daddy, "Goodnight, sweetheart."
When Justin got back to his room he dialed Jenna's number when she picked up he spoke, "Good you're still up."
"Well it's only eight o'clock," Jenna replied, "Is everything okay?"
"Oh yeah Katie's fine," Justin said, "but we just had a conversation about me being her daddy and then she called me it. She called me daddy, me!" Justin said.
"So did she ask about JC?" Jenna asked.
"Yeah and I tried to explain it to her. I don't think she totally understands," Justin said.
"How did he treat her today?" Jenna asked.
"Better than he's been treating us, I think that's why she asked now," Justin replied. Then he paused for a minute before he asked, "Are you still in love with him?"
There was a long silence until she replied softly, "Yes."
"Maybe you should go see him," Justin said, "well goodnight."
"Yeah, goodnight," Jenna said.
Jenna decided that Justin was right. She decided since he had Katie that she would just go see JC. She missed him and from what everyone had been telling her it sounded like he missed her too. She hesitated before she rang the doorbell, praying that he was home. Then the door opened.
"What are you doing here?" JC said
"Hello to you too. Listen I think we need to talk," Jenna said, "can I come in?"
JC stepped aside to let her in then said, "What do we need to talk about?"
"Us," Jenna said.
"There is no us. You made that perfectly clear when you didn't tell me," JC said.
"I'm sorry JC. How many times do I have to say it before you'll forgive me?" Jenna asked, "JC I love you. I want to be with you," Jenna said.
"I just can't right now. I can't be around you. It hurts to know that you lied to me," JC said walking away.
"Fine, if you want it that way that's fine. But don't be so sure that when you're ready to talk, I'll be ready to listen," Jenna said heading for the door.
