And does so frequently with Garret, her pet hawk, who often accompanies her into the field. It is because of this ability that she has become a vegetarian. She also has the ability to use the energy that is produced by people's thoughts and concentrate them into her sword, making it impenetrable. She uses her sword as her main defense. She is beginning to develop more offensive uses of her powers such as mind surges, where she amplifies the power of the thoughts she receives from a person and then sends it back to them over loading their senses causing them to be rendered unconscious. But she has not fully leaned to control this new ability so she does not use it in battle out of the fear that she could do harm to an innocent bystander. Serenity found out about her abilities during an ice skating contest when she overheard a group of birds discussing her lack of talent. Her physical appearance was not altered once her powers manifested although she suffered from headaches once they did. She couldn't put a block up to stop the overflow of animal thoughts entering her head and thought she was going crazy. History: Hope grew up in a family that looked happy to friends and other on lookers. But in actuality Hope felt withdrawn and unloved by her parents and two older sisters (Constnace and Faith). She used ice-skating as a way to vent her frustrations. It was at an ice-skating competition that her powers manifested. She had made it to the finals when she overheard a couple of pigeon's opinion of her skating ability. That added with the stress that had been placed on her by her parents, coach and herself was enough to put her over the edge. Hope soon thought she was going crazy as did her parents who consulted a shrink; Dr. Simon Peters (the Guardian's Genesis). Hope frequently saw Simon and it wasn't long before he realized the reason that Sampson asked him to pose as her shrink. Hope was a mutant. Hope, in her mid-teens, decided to get away from her parents who often put her down and made her feel inferior to her sisters. On her travels she found Garret, a recently hatched hawk who had been abandoned. Hope started to take care of him when she was approached by Cell and Kismet. They offered her a place on their team and more importantly for her a place to belong. It was there that she was reunited with Simon. Hope still goes to Simon with her problems and insecurities and views him as a big brother. Once Hope gained experience and comfort with her abilities she took on the code name Serenity. She said that it was because of the fact that her powers brought her peace and tranquility. |
