Known Powers:
Renegade absorbs the electromagnetic radiation (ER) that is in everything and is everywhere.  He can then concentrate the ER into transparent, glowing dart like discs.  He can then throw them causing a small explosion, or a firework like reaction.  Being a form of light, he can also use them to blind as well as a weaoin.  He is also beginning to concentrate it into different objects, mostly the twelve daggers that he always carries into battle, causing the explosion to be of greater impact.  This procedure happens within milliseconds because he is constantly absorbing the ER (electromagnetic radiation).
It is not known how his powers manifested or what affects it had on his personal appearance.  Renegade had fairly good control over his abilities when he first joined the team.

History:
It is not known for sure but it is believed by Sampson and Simon that Zen was developed in a British Columbian lab, where he was engineered to have his reflexes, strength, durability and agility at peek human abilities.  Also at that time he was given knowledge into the mechanics of numerous machines and he has the ability to fix almost anything.
It is not known when, how or even if he escaped the lab.  After he was freed Zen took various jobs as an assassin, spy, etc., working in an agency.  It was during this time that his mutant ability manifested although it is not known how.
Zen was on a job, an assassination when he was approached by Cell and Kismet.  Almost immediately he took a disliking to Cell and refused to join.  But when Kismet saved Zen's life he reconsidered and felt that he owed Kismet.  So he decided to join the team until he could pay Kismet back what he owed her, a chance to save her life.
He managed to do it and was about to leave the team when he was introduced to Ace, the newest member of the Guardians.  Her attitude and mysterious nature intrigued him.  He then made it his goal to get to the bottom of the mystery that she shrouded herself in.  He thus decided to remain a Guardian.
He had the code name Renegade since before he joined the Guardians.  It is believed that he received it during his time as an assassin.  He is more often called Renegade then Zen, but he has no complaints.
