Types are a bit like elements, and would be classified as such, but none of them fit under an elemental category (fire, water, earth, or air). Therefore they're simply called 'types'. There are currently several different known types, and more can be discovered through breeding, contests, etc. There are currently ninety different, original types. More may be discovered through breeding and/or special events.
