An Eye For An Eye
An Eye for an Eye
Mike still knelt on the ground where Paolo once stood, Kate had stormed off into the woods, and Amy sat beside Mike still in shock by the whole event. Mike's tears ran down his face, he then wiped the tears with his hand. The other hand punched the ground in rage and the ground lightly trembled. "Mike?" Amy mumbled, "What was Kate talking about, a-a-about not being human? What haven't you told me?" she asked.
Mike sat there silent tuning out all other sounds, lost in thought. Memories of the past filled his mind. Then thoughts of the future, how would he go on without his best friend? He realized he would be lost without him. Then he finally came to. Amy still sat next to him, now holding his hand. He saw her lips moving but could not hear the words. Slowly the sound of her voice grew, now a faint whisper, he could only make out the words, "Mike...Please...me..." That was all he heard. Eventually, her voice became clear enough for him to understand that she wanted to help him.
"Mike, Come on. Please trust me. I'm here for you, always," she said. She held his hand tighter and put her arm around him. She kissed him on the cheek and wiped his tears. "Mike, get up. We have to go. We can't stay here." Amy stood up and pulled him to his feet. He sulked with his head down, looking at the ground. She led him home holding on tightly to his hand.
When Amy got Mike to the doorstep, Christina and Vinny were just walking out of the house to go patrol the park. They noticed that Paolo and Kate were missing and that Mike was looking a bit beat. They ran quickly to their aid. "Oh my god, what happened Amy?" Christina asked. "Where are Paolo and Kate?"
"It's a long story. Help me get him inside," she replied.
They got inside the house and Vinny took Mike to his room. He put him on the bed and looked at him. "Mike are you ok? What happened?" But no answer came from him. He was still in shock and he was miserable. No more tears ran down his face, but he stared blankly around his room. Just about everything he saw there made it all feel worse. Everything reminded him of Paolo. In an instant, he lost his best friend.
Vinny tried to get into his head, but some how, Mike was resisting it and Vinny could not get through. He could not get the slightest glimpse of any thought. Mike was trying very hard not to let anyone get to him.
Downstairs in the living room, Amy had explained everything to Christina. Christina's eyes started to tear in sorrow. "I know this sounds crazy and I don't expect you to believe what exactly happened, but that is what I saw."
"No, don't worry, I believe you," Christina said sobbing.
"I can't exactly explain what happened there tonight. Can you explain to me? Because I tried to talk to Mike, but I can't get to him," Amy says. Christina looks at her pondering whether is was her place to say something. She knew that Amy had the right to know what was going on, especially now, but it could put her in danger.
"To tell you the truth, we're different from all the other people. Mike, Paolo, Tom, Matt, Vinny, Kate and I are not exactly normal. We're supernatural. We all have different abilities and all..." she trails off sniffling. "I'm sorry, I can't talk about this right now. You should stay...but please, do not tell anyone about what you saw tonight...or what you know." Amy's eyes widened in wonder and confusion. Christina gets up and runs to the bathroom and vomits.
Later that night, Mike, Vinny, Amy, and Christina are sitting around the fireplace in the den in silence. Tom and Matt let themselves in and walk into the den seeing all their gloomy faces and wondering what had happened. "Hey what's wrong guys? Who died?" Tom says.
Mike sinks deeper into his chair feeling the remorse and pain of losing his friend. Christina and Amy begin to cry once again. Vinny looks up at them and a tear rolls down his face. "Paolo..." he uttered.
Matt and Tom's jaws drop and their eyes are filled with grief. "What? No...that's not funny...are you kidding me?" Matt says in confusion. "What happened?"
"Mages..." Vinny replies again. "They attacked them...they got him."
Back at the mages' lair, all the mages are standing before the altar, with Arthur, William, and Matthias chained to the back wall. "We're finally getting close to victory. We got their mystic of shadow. We finally won something!" Freeze says.
"Who's next? I'd like a crack at their little psy mystic. We still have a score to settle," Skye comments. "Come on...let me take him!"
"You'll get your chance," Silver says. She looks into her dark orb and her eyes become as black as coal. She seems to be lost in the orb. She sees the mystics grieving and mourning together in the manor. "They seem to be very vulnerable as of this moment. But they are all together, that isn't a good thing. All of them together, they are still powerful, even without their shadow and fire mystics."
"What exactly did you did to that fire mystic?" Shock asks.
"Just a little splash of hatred towards her friends," Silver explains.
"Ah, the divide and conquer tactic," Pyro says.
"Why don't you and Shock go find that firefly and convince her to join us. She knows a lot about them, maybe she can be a useful tool." As Silver ordered this, they both disappeared immediately. "Skye and Ivy, go spy on our little grieving souls. Keep watch and do not let any of them out of your sight. If anything happens, dont act, inform us and we will deal with it accordingly."
"On it," they replied and disappeared as well.
"Freeze, follow me we have a great deal of work to do. Aqua and Drake, if their fourth comes around here, take care of him. Do not let him get near them. We cannot afford to lose anything from now on. So far, things are going well." Silver orders as he motions towards the three captive vampires. Instantly, Silver, Freeze and Pyro disappeared into the caverns.
Just as they disappeared, Dan appears at the opposite end along side a beautiful tall dark haired man. Drake turns to Aqua and notices she is strangely still...as if she was frozen stiff. Drake finally sees Dan and his partner and readies himself for a battle. "Are you kidding me?" Angelus laughs. "You are definitely no match for me. Especially all by your self. I'd have more of a difficulty telling the difference between night and day."
"Let's just see about that shall we?" All ready to fight, Angelus notices that the effects of his time freeze was wearing off Aqua. She began slowly moving.
"What's going on?" Angelus says, "why aren't my powers working?"
Drake laughs, "you are in our territory. Spells and enchantments protect us as well as our powers. Your powers are no good here. They are weakend by our own."
Drake runs at Angelus and punches him right in the gut. Angelus quickly recovers and throws a few punches of his own. After a few seconds, he began to feel odd. He felt heavier, all of his movements slowed down a great deal. Soon, he did not even have the strength to hold himself up and he just fell to the ground face-down.
"He may not have power here, but I was created here," he reveals his claws and starts to tear at Drake and Aqua at the same time. Drake and Aqua are blocking every blow but cannot strike back, Dan was moving to quickly. Drake lost his focus and Angelus and the effects of his powers on him wore off. Angelus slowly rose to his feet and attempted to free the others. As he approached them, he was thrown back by a shocking force surrounding them.
"Dan, I can't do anything now, we have to retreat. We need more help," Angelus warns him. "Come on, let's go."
Dan does a quick leg sweep sending both his opponents to the ground. Dan and Angelus disappear with the blink of an eye.
At Kate's apartment, the center of the living room was cleared. Eight white candles were placed in a circle surrounding a brown leather book and four other coloured candles. Beside the book were set an athame and a crystal chalice filled with red wine. Kate sat at the center of the circle chanting,
Upon this night and upon this hour,
I call upon your ancient power
The powers of the dark I ask of thee
Let your magicks come to me.
By all the powers bestowed in me
All their faults they soon shall see.
Instantly, the white candles were blown out and from the four coloured candles a blue flame burned. Little specks of shadows came up from the ground and surrounded her in a circle. They slowly closed in on her and, eventually, her skin absorbed them all.
At that moment, Pyro and Shock appeared in front of her. They tried to grab her but were thrown back by the protective circle she cast around her. Kate's eyes changed, darkening to a dark purple, then finally black. The little specks of shadows began tgo encircle her once again. "What do you want here?" she spoke in a deeper, colder voice.
"We know of your pain, and your desssire for revenge. We can help you get that, and much more," Shock said with a hiss.
She threw her arm out in front of her and released a beam of shadows. It hit Shock and bound him to the wall. "What makes you think I need your help to get what I want?" She quickly turns towards Pyro. "What do you have to say to me, Gaetan, Fire mage? Hopefully something more convincing than your friend over there."
"Maybe I do," he said as he approached her. He looked at her with a burning flame in his eyes. It seemed as if it was a longing for her, a long obsession that he had for her. He leaned closer to her and exhaled a white red smoke. Her hands slowly lifted, pulled him closer and kissed him. "You see, we have more to offer than you think. I can show you another that you would enjoy rather greatly."
"Maybe this alliance will be beneficial after all," Kate said as she snapped her wrist releasing Shock from his bindings. "Let's go then."
Back at the manor, Amy sits beside Mike on his bed, holding his hand. Mike lay on the bed and stared blankly into space. His face was still pale and his skin still cold. "Mike, everything will be ok. I know everything now. I'm still here and I always will be," she assured him. She lay down next to him putting her arms around him.
Vinny ran down to the basement and furiously searched the chests and cabinets for various weapons. He pulled out a long steel sword, two wooden stakes, four silver daggers, and Paolo's grimoire. He searched the book frantically and came upon a magick resistance spell entitled, "Against Evil Powers." He copied it down on a piece of paper and put the weapons into a small duffle bag with and carried the sword on his back.
He walked up to the main floor and saw Tom and Matt seated at the table. A look of rage appeared onto his face and he stormed off towards the back door. "Vinny where are you going?" Tom asked.
"Out." he replied sternly. "I'll be back don't worry. Watch the others."
He walked heavily and threw the door open. He shut it behind him with a loud slam. He did not even bother to take his car and just flew to the park. Those mages are going to get it, he thought to himself.
Once he got there, the entire place was silent. No birds, no crickets, not a sound was to be heard. "I know at least one of you is here. Show yourselves!" he yelled out angrily.
After a few minutes of nothing more than silence, a voice finally emerged from the trees. "Isn't it passed your bedtime little boy?" a soft voice spoke. "It's a little late to be out all on your own. You know the boogie man might come out of the shadows and hurt you. Oh wait, I will."
She used her telekinesis to throw him back to a tree. "Mary," he said. "I was hoping for something more challenging. But, I guess you will do for now." He took out the piece of paper and recited the spell.
By the powers of the earth around me
Protect me from the evil that I face.
No harm by magick can affect me
None on this earth, time, or space.
Potentiae Malae Vos Teneo
He slowly rose to his feet and stared into Mary's eyes. She again tried to use her powers, but with fail. Panic and fear was now evident in her. She searched for another way to fight. She glanced upon a pile of stones and she telekinetically threw them at Vinny. He lifted his arm with palms outwards towards her and a barrier formed deflecting the stones in random directions. She finally realized that it was no use to fight with magick, so she flew towards him at full speed and closed her hands into a powerful fist.
"You have no power over me." He threw his hands before him and she was thrown back and pinned to a tree. She tried frantically to free herself and to magickally fight back, but nothing worked. Vinny was now immune to her powers. His eyes began to glow a bright blue colour and he lifted himself off the ground. The daggers hovered above the bag and flew straight at her. Two were directly thrown at her hands, the other two, just missing her neck. The stakes floated next and one went straight through her heart. She shrieked in pain and in an instant, she turned to dust. The daggers and stakes fell down unto her ashes.
The wind blew her ashes away and revealed a silver pendant that she wore. On one side a picture of a feather on the other the words "The power of air is that of flight, movement, and suspension" were carved. He picked it up and placed it into his pocket. "Great souveneir. What can I say, an eye for an eye."
