Elementals
The whole group is sitting in physics, pretty much bored out of their minds. The sun shines through the classroom causing a glare in the room. Matt sits there tapping his pencil, thinking about his track meet after school. He just stares blankly into space. Whereas Christina and Tom are speaking to each other. Paolo and Vinny are also talking about Vinny's performance at Java Java the other night. Mike, well, sleeping.
"Guys, can you pay attention please. Michael Stop sleeping. Everyone else quiet. This is all gonna be on the test. So you have to know everything, you agree with me or not?" says Mr. Koltunov with his heavy Russian accent. The whole room then is quiet and focuses on the board.
"Do you get any of these equations," Paolo whispers to Vinny. "I'm not getting any of this."
"Neither am I," he replies with a tone of uncertainty.
"Don't worry guys, we got two seconds till the bell," Matt assures them. "I'll help you out with studying."
"Umm...ok, I guess," Vinny says.
The bell rings and everyone stands up and leaves the room. Paolo and Vinny walk outside and find the weather suddenly changes. Dark clouds suddenly appear and cover the sky. Slowly, the town is under a blanket of shadows and it starts to rain heavily.
Vinny then suddenly gets a sharp, piercing pain in his head. He places his hands on his temples and Paolo sees the pain in his face. Paolo immediately runs to his aid and holds his head. He then gets a sudden shock of coldness from Vinny's skin. Paolo yells in terror and falls back.
The rest of the gang follows the crowd outside to see what is going on. They watch as Vinny turns pale and Paolo sitting there helpless. Christina walks up to Vinny and puts her hands over him. Paolo calls to her, "NO, You know you can't do that Chris," as he motions to the crowd around them. "Don't do it."
Mike looks at Paolo and motions for him to do some magick to get the people away. He hurries towards him and takes his hand. "I'll help you." As he takes his hand he too is shocked but is not thrown back as Paolo was. Mike just bares with the pain. He covers Paolo as he begins the spell. Beneath Mike, Paolo's eyes begin to darken to a deep brown, then to black. The winds get a little more furious and it starts to rain even heavier.
Christina then tries to heal Vinny, but it doesn't work. "He's not hurt Chris," Matt points out. "You can't heal him, there's nothing to heal."
Tom then conjures a few pairs of really thick gloves and hands a pair to Mike and Matt. They all carry Vinny back to Tom's car. They put him in back and Matt and Tom drive back to the manor.
Mike runs to Paolo and picks him up as well. They head towards Christina's car and drive off as well.
When they get back to the manor, "I think I might know what's going on with Vinny," Paolo explains. "When I felt him, there was a shock sent to me that something really awful is happening. I'm not sure what exactly it was, but, It's keeping him in this state."
"If something is going to happen, we're going to need Vinny," Matt explains.
"Well, until we get him out of this state, we are going to have to do it without him," Mike explains.
"Kate is out from the hospital now, I think she may be able to help us find something out," Paolo says. "Mike, go through my books and try to find if there is anything special about today. And Chris, Try scrying to find if there is any trouble going on anywhere."
"Got it," Christina affirms.
"What should I be doing?" Tom asks.
"Just watch over Vinny and Call me if anything changes," Paolo commands. "I'm going to call Kate over."
After a while, they regroup and exchange information. The doorbell rings as the gather and Kate walks through the door. "Hey guys," she greets everyone.
"Hey, Kate!" everyone replies to her.
"How's Vinny doing?" she asks. "Any changes yet?"
"No, he's still out, he's been the same for a while," Matt explains. "Maybe Carlo knows something about what's going on."
Later that night, Vinny was put in his room, to rest in his own bed. With Christina watching over him along side her sister, Diane. "Is he going to be ok, Chris?"
"I really do hope so, D," she says sincerely. "I wonder how the others are doing on their research."
"They're getting there. They called Carlo and he's downstairs helping them out."
Downstairs in the living room, Carlo, Matt, and Tom are talking, trying to figure out what has happened. Paolo, Mike, and Kate are in the next room looking through the Book of Shadows. "Have you found anything yet?" Paolo asks Kate.
"No, nothing yet."
Suddenly both Paolo and Kate sense something supernatural watching them. Mike looks at them, "What's wrong?"
"Something�s outside...watching us," Kate tells him. Concerned she walks quietly towards the window, sees nothing. But the presence is still there. "I can't see anything, but there's definitely something out there."
"Kate stay here and inform the others of it. Then keep researching, Mike and I will go outside and check it out," Paolo commands. She looks up at him and nods. "Ready Mike?"
"Yea, let's go. Whatever it is, I'm ready."
They both walk out the back door. Mike holds a flashlight in hand as well as his sword. Paolo wields a small dagger and an amulet around his neck. "Do you hear that Mike?" Paolo asks.
Mike concentrates and listens to his surroundings. "Hear what I don't hear anything."
"Exactly, there isn't a sound. That's weird. I don't hear a bird, nor a cricket. Not even the wind."
"You're right, there's seriously something wrong here." Mike looks around more closely, and finds nothing yet. "Wait!" he is surprised by a sudden rustling of the leaves of the trees. "How is that, there's no wind..."
"Whatever it is, it's coming closer. I can feel it, and it�s very strong."
Suddenly from the darkness, there speaks a voice, "So, how is your friend doing?
Any better?" it says followed by a sinister laughter. She then reveals herself, slowly floating back to the ground from the trees. The faces on Paolo and Mike suddenly twist with amazement and fear. "Don't look so surprised to see me. I want to play."
She uses her power to throw Paolo back into the side of the house. Then rushes towards Mike and knocks him down. Mike hits the ground with a loud thud. Paolo gets back to his feet and starts to levitate off the ground. His eyes begin to turn a pure black and the winds begin to blow towards Mary.
She laughs at him again. "Is that all you can do? You do realize that can't do anything. Especially to me, I mean come on now. You have to have learned something new, or at least something stronger."
"You underestimate our, powers. Bad move." He uses his shadow magick to envelop her in a rush of darkness, she cannot move. "Ha! Think again, we are much stronger than you know."
Mary starts to struggle and try to break free from the shadows. Then, she just stops, silence again. "Mike are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Nice Job," he comments. The struggling in the shadow commences once again, to Paolo's surprise, it begins to give way and opens up, letting Mary free.
But Mike foresaw that and ran towards it raising his fist as Mary emerged and it struck her on the jaw and sent her falling back. "What have you done to Vinny?" Mike angrily yells out. "What have you done to him!" he said as he walked up to her still attacking. He advances and picks up his sword.
"I guess that's what you'll have to find out for yourself. As for your friend over there, you're going to see him die," she threatens.
As she spoke those words, a ball of fire came streaming down from the sky towards Paolo. Mike looked at it in horror. He watched as it fell and exploded right where Paolo stood. The explosion pushed him to the ground as he covered his eyes from the blinding flash. He opened his eyes to find an immense cloud of smoke...where Paolo once stood. He sat on the ground in awe. "No," he whispered to himself in grief. "No, it can't be," he said under his breath.
"That's what happens when you aggravate me." Mary says looking at Mike, she then turns her head to her right, "good job Pyro. I think we're done here." As Pyro, the Fire Mage, appeared next to her.
"Why, Thank you. Incinerating people is grand. The power of fire is great."
Mike still stares at the smoke, and once it had cleared he finds not Paolo, but Kate, standing in the smoke with her hand raised. "I'm ok Mike, I'm over here." Mike turns around to find Paolo with Matt.
Kate then sent a fireball of her own towards Mary and Pyro. They both dodge it, flying in separate directions. Tom creates a rope and captures Mary with it. Mary turns to look at Tom and sends him flying.
Mike leapt up and caught the rope, and used all his strength to pull her down. She tried to use her powers on him but it didn�t seem to work. "Magick is useless to use against me right now, I posses the amulet of protection which protects me from any kind of magick."
"Damnit, No!" she cried out.
Paolo used his shadow magick to restrain her a little more and covered her eyes to prevent her from using her powers against someone else. Matt flew up, caught Pyro, and threw him to the ground.
Pyro created a blinding flash of light, which caused everyone to go blind. He cut the rope that held Mary and the shadows disappeared. Carlo rushes out of the house and attacks the fire mage. He thrusts his sword into the mage's side. He then runs for Mary, but she has regained her powers and sends him right to the ground.
"I can't move," Carlo hesitates. He starts to struggle but it's no use, her powers are too strong. "Tom!"
Tom regains his strength and conjures two stakes and throws them towards Mary. Without accuracy, just a diversion. Mary dodges one but the other nails her in the abdomen. She lets out a shriek of pain.
"Well, done. But I am still immortal," she assures them. "Let's see if you can survive your days against the Elementals. Which I believe already got to one of your friends."
"We are ready for whatever you have in store. We'll see who wins in the end," Carlo says confidently. "Sooner or later, you will perish."
"We'll see about that. Pyro, let's introduce them to one more mage," Mary says.
Then Pyro starts to nod and motions for the other mage to appear. "Freeze, come to us now!" he summons the mage. A woman appears from a thick, cold, white cloud. She wore a long white and light blue dress, it looked more like sheets then anything. She had long white hair, and she was as pale as her dress. She held a long white staff with a clear orb at the top.
Inside, Christina and Diane wondered what they could do to help Vinny. "Maybe you can use one of Paolo's spellbooks to heal Vinny, Christina."
"Didn't Paolo try that already?"
"No, he just tried looking for the source of the problem. He didn't try looking for a solution."
Christina sat there thinking about what Diane had just said. "Well I have been studying some magick, maybe we could try. But we just have to be careful, Paolo's magicks are very powerful...maybe even more powerful than we can handle."
"But we have to try," Diane says. "We have to help Vinny somehow."
Diane runs to Paolo's room and picks up a spellbook. "Well, Vinny seems like he's in a frozen state, so why don't we try a spell that will warm him down a bit."
Back outside, A furious battle emerges between Mary and two of the Elementals against the group. Kate and Matt are battling against Freeze, Paolo and Mike against Pyro, and Carlo and Tom against Mary.
"Kate," Paolo calls, "we have to bring this somewhere else. We can't risk fighting here. Innocents can get hurt."
Paolo and Kate then join hands and begin a spell. Little sparkles of light start to fall from the sky, and take them all to a different location, To an altogether different realm.
Each one arrives within a sparkle of light. Then, the light fades away and reveals all the opponents.
