Second Quarter 1995 Meeting -- Lair No. 1

This was the first Mass Challenge meeting and was held on June 3, 1995 at Max's Allegheny Tavern. Harry Plantinga created an algorithm which generated a random longitude and latitude no more than 150 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. Each Rascal was challenged to go to that location and bring back an interesting story. After all the stories were told, there was a tie in the voting between Greg Scheer, who had presented a song entitled "There's Nothing There," and Jeff Campbell, who found a water mite in a puddle on the border of Ohio and Pennsylvania. The tie was settled in a rational fashion: an arm wrestling match. Jeff won, taking with the match the honor of being the first recipient of the Jonathan Z. Landgraf Prize.
